Whisky

So what's the verdict from yous whisky buyers? Is a Tesco clubcard worth getting?

I'm an Aldi man for messages but my mate has a Tesco club card.

That whisky club thing I joined seems a bit overpriced.

Got this one for my dad

Ardnamurchan AD/ Single Malt Whisky

Which he thoroughly enjoyed

He’s a bit of a critic, I once got him Penderyn which he described as “focking rough”
Penderyn Madeira finish is really good. Haven't had the standard one. Aber Falls is a very decent Welsh whisky.
Cotswold Single Malt is very good. Ignore the whisky wankers who say it's crap because it's English.
Indian whisky is also highly recommended. Amrut Fusion is delicious although not as cheap as it was.

I think so. I used to buy whatever was on offer when I was still discovering single malts. Think I've done all the Tesco range at one time or another. Now I just buy my favourites when they're on offer.
Johnnie Walker Black Label is excellent for a blend. Very smooth. Usually between £20-22 when on Clubcard offer. Well worth a punt if you've never tried it.

I'll get my mate to take me to Tesco next time he goes. See what's on offer.

We’re Aldi shoppers too but use Tesco now and again. There are some great savings with the club card.

Like I said I'll have a wee look. But some of the savings that's been mentioned are decent.

I got a bottle of Glenmorangie 15 year old as a Christmas present. Cannie drink it yet ‘cos I’m on antibiotics until well after new year 😭

Just get a club card anyway... worth it all day long

If you know someone who works for Tesco take them with you they get another 10% off on top of the club card reductions
Only thing I miss about working for them

Was just in Tesco and there are big discounts on pretty much all whiskies. Hurry though because the whisky fairy departs on 2 January and everything is back to full price for a few weeks.

Can I just stray a wee bit and as how you all pronounce Glen Morangie?
Morangie is commonly pronounced with the emphasis on the second syllable but locally the distillery is in the Morangie district of Tain and both the district and the whisky is pronounced with the emphasis on the first syllable. I know this because my son was a tour guide there for one summer.

Glen MORangie for me or, depending on how many I’ve had, Glnmranzee

Listening to the radio while in my sick bed yesterday (or the day before) and Kirsty Wark did a show about the challenges facing Scottish Malt Whisky (I can’t bring myself to call it scotch). I hadn’t realised that there are now hundreds of micro distilleries all over the US and that our American cousins are turning to that rather than Scottish spirit.

Have any US dwellers tried some?

What are folks opinions on ice?

I know it's seen as sacrilege by many malt elitists, but I do enjoy embracing my inner 'murican and having a scotch on the rocks from time to time.

All a matter of personal preference. I was given whisky stones to use instead of ice but it’s all a bit gimmicky as far as I’m concerned. Personally I drink it neat.

I would opine that putting ice in whisky is something that would appeal to Taliban.net.

Personal opinion mind 😉

It depends on the nip for me.

If I like the whole package I'll take it neat. If it tastes nice but goes down like lighter fluid a couple of cubes can even that out.
