Rumour.

Aye nae argument from me.

Or me,

Go get a taste of the 'American dream' while getting paid way more than you should beause you're one of their designated signings.

Jump on the sponsorship train and all of a sudden you've got generational wealth. (Not that he'll be struggling as it is)

Ive heard Adam Le Fondre will be signing .
The story from Sydney is he was going to Hibs.- might be hijacked by a bigger offer .
Brian McDermott / Reading connection .

Cheers, would be an interesting signing. How’s he generally done for Sydney?

It’s in the EEN now…

Just saw that report there .
Had heard the story from my end via a Sydney FC staff member so there was substance in it .
Wondered when it would hit the Scottish rumours .

He’s been very good for Sydney - scores plenty of goals but defences here are not as strong .
Misses a few penalties though

Le Fondre has been playing in bloody India of late. I fail to see how that means he can transition directly to playing in our league. He would have been a magnificent signing for Hibs about 5 years ago but at 36 no thanks.

What could possibly go wrong with a 36 year old player who hasn't played in a decent league for 5 years.

Played in India for a year .Been back at Sydney for 18months
He’s as good as McLaren in the A league albeit McLaren is younger .
They both carve it up at that standard .
Plenty would have Jamie Mc back.
I think he’ll offer a fair bit as a squad player .
Certainly more than Tavares

Jamie Mac is 29 years old though. Le Fondre turns 37 in December. It seems the club just restructure who manages what and then back to the original drawing board of signing old players who won't improve us. It's not just that but the wage demands as well of some of these players.

The quality players at 35+ years are the super elite players like the Ronaldo's etc that are super fit and very seldom injured. Look at the older players Hibs have signed in the last 20-30 years. Most have been failures. We have this conversation every summer.

You have a point about the fitness imo. It's extremely rare that past 35 they are big successes. In a weird way, McGeady still had a turn and a bit of pace in him so was fit for his age - when fit if you know what I mean!

I guess it comes down to how much Le Fondre has looked after himself. I'm not against him coming in on trial to see where he's at

It was too good for Cummings who is ripping it up in the A league
I'm inclined to agree that our top league is marginally better than the aussie one, but that doesn't mean that someone couldn't score in ours when they did over there

Absolutely not at all convinced Cummings would have been any good for Hibs after promotion fwiw.

If we were to look at Le Fondre I'd hope we had him in to train first. Age is less concerning on its own than his recent injury record - that will do more to fuck up his ability to return to a higher standard imo

Disagree with you there mate. You only have to remember how many goals he scored against the huns and slayed the gunts as well as the other cup games against Dundee Utd and Aberdeen to see he would have been great when we went up. We sold, got good money and he lost the plot down South.

He went to Oz, got his shit together and showed the player he always was.

Delighted for Jason. An absolute legend at us.

There’s no way a player of his level will be trialing or going on ‘probation’
Totally unrealistic to expect that .
He’s fit and been playing regularly
He’ll have plenty offers elsewhere if we don’t take him .

IMO Le Fondre would be a very good signing.
Hibs need experience, class and finishing power in the last third and he would provide all three having played and scored goals at a decent level most of his career. I also think he would help and bring on the younger forwards at the club.
Yes, he would need to prove his overall fitness and there is no way we could accommodate another McGeady situation, but that's what our medical team are there for, and I doubt the same costly mistake would be made again. I maintain if McGeady had stayed fit for most of last season we would have finished at least one place higher up the league. You could see the difference his experience and quality made to the team when he did play.
Steven Fletcher is the same age as Le Fondre and many fans would like to see him back.
Not sure the Le Fondre thing is going to happen, but I reckon it would be a smart move by the club if they could pull it off.

The source I heard from this end is reliable .
It was on last week before he flew back to Uk

When it comes to over 35 players, there are two factors that are absolutely crucial… their injury history and if they’ve been playing regularly.

Aiden McGeady had missed a lot of games through injury, and inevitably broke down (twice) during his season at Hibs.

Grant Holt is the opposite, was still fit and injury free and the result was he played regularly for his season at Hibs.

Our squad needs as much experience and as many big characters as it can get, if that’s what Le Fondre brings I’m fine with that. He won’t be the only striker we sign.

The point about helping the youngsters is a very good one. We’ve invested in Melkersen and need to do what we can to help develop into a player who can score 20 plus goals a season for Hibs.

We’ve also got McKirdy who isn’t a youngster, but another we’ve paid a fee for and need to do what we can to turn him into a first team calibre striker.

We didn’t have an old head up front last season, we could do with one.

We’ll also still need to go and sign and out and out first choice striker IMO.

Can't see an over the mill 36 year old with no sell on value being highly sought after.
Was released from Sydney....as he is well past it now.

If that's the standard were at....It's gonna be a bloody long season.

I tend to agree. However if he has looked after himself like Craig Brewster did (who hadn’t played a lot of games) then it could be just fine. Brewster was fantastic at Hibs despite his age.

Brewster was only 34 when he signed for Hibs and 35 when he left

Craig Brewster was merely okay - I wouldn't describe him as a fantastic Hibs player. Certainly not one I would look back on with any degree of nostalgia. And to top it off his departure was a bit like Lovell where he seemed to have some bitterness towards Hibs after leaving.

Now Sauzee, he was a fantastic older player. Signed at 34 I think but he was an elite player IMO and still had all those attributes arriving at Hibs. Le Fondre was a very good player in England a few years ago but nowhere near Sauzee level.
