Whisky

I discussed buying a cask between some mates once. Not as an investment but to have our own private bottling.
I can understand folk investing but to put your entire life savings into something like that is just fucking mental.
This was when I was getting calls from boiler rooms as well. I'd check the company name as they were talking and they weren't legit brokers.

Finally bit the bullet and rejoined the SMWS. Gonna have to get my arse into town more to make it work.
Got this bad boy in my welcome box.
Nice. Can you work out roughly what distillery it is?

I’ve just cracked my birthday present from my best mate and it’s almost my perfect whisky.

Noice. I got a bottle of that from my brother for Christmas. Not opened yet but I love the 105 so expecting good things from it.
Having a whisky tasting with mates tomorrow night and everyone brings a bottle to sample. I'm thinking of cracking open the Bunnahabhain 12 year old cask strength that I got on Islay in 2022. Or maybe the Signatory bottling of Macallan. Decisions decisions. 🤔

Ooh that’s tough choice.

As an experiment (and definitely not just an excuse to pour another glass 😬) but I just tried my 12 year old Glenfarclas against the 15 - what a difference.

Wow. Is it that noticeable? The 15 certainly gets rave reviews. Maybe I should crack that instead. 😆
Out of interest, have you read Raw Spirit by Iain Banks? His search for the perfect dram.

This stuff is on offer in Sainsbury's just now. Picked myself up a bottle and would definitely recommend it to any fellow peat heads. Lovely and smokey but pretty smooth with it.

Bought this today at Tesco £38 for £28 with the Club Card. Only tasted it once before at a whisky tasting and - as far as I remember - I enjoyed it.
Having just opened this and poured myself a dram, as Archie McPherson would say “woooooooft!”. Can almost taste the salt from the sea air, coupled with the Bourbon flavouring. It’s a yes for me.

You're right. It's next level.

This is up there too. Signatory bottling of Macallan. Bottled at 57.1%. Absolute sherry monster. Was only around £50 iirc. Complete steal for a Macallan.

Have you tried Fire and Cane?
Not tried it. Is it any good? I'd not looked closely and assumed it was one of those flavoured whiskies that Jack Daniels and Jim Beam do. On closer inspection it sounds interesting. Think the name had put me off.

It's got a smooth richness to it. A little sweeter and very moreish.

Now I've seen folk mention rum on here. I'm at rat bairns it's her man's 41st.

Away to have a drink of this.....

Got a bottle of the Singleton in. Never had it before (unless you count my old bridge-playing days).

Not much of a Speyside fan really, but it looks darker than most of them I have tried, and the price cajoled me in and sealed the deal.

Opinions on it?

On day 2 of a 3 day golf trip to Cumbria and Dumfries. Drinking Bunnahabhain Stiùreadair. Lovely stuff. Probably my favourite Islay distiller.

I think it will have enough life in it for you.
