Ukraine.

You just know if Russia captures him he is getting "disappeared" straight away.

Apparently he and his cabinet have been urged to leave by EU and UK, seems he may stay until the end currently.

I am expecting large civilian casualties as Putin needs to punish Ukraine for daring to be Ukraine.

It is all just so depressing. That the same shit over and over again. And yet another bitter old man moves to wreck lives and create havoc and for what? Really? There is no need for this, it is just him and his stupid ego and delusions. Imperial Russia.

So much for the Human Species.

I wonder if, like 1939, there’s a certain inevitability about events. It just seems mental that a sovereign state thinks a war is a solution.
I dare say a lot will hinge on if the west reacts with military forces to repel Russia. Putin knows The most the west can do at present is the economic sanctions because Ukraine wasn’t yet a NATO member. Go in with all guns blazing in defence of Ukraine and it’s kiss your arse goodbye because it’ll will go nuclear. Different matter if Russia attacks a NATO aligned state. I don’t think Putin is mad enough for that as he knows NATO must respond in kind. He’s more likely to subvert the west leaning democracies in the former Warsaw Pact nations that are now NATO members hoping this in turn will lead to those countries rejecting the west and reverting to pre 1991 governments

They actually have as big an army as Russia but not the sand air power. The shittiest thing is they gave up their nuclear weapons in return for security guarantees which are if course meaningless now. So no country will ever give up their nuclear weapons again

That's the bit I never understood. No way should they have given up the ultimate deterrent given their history with Russia.

Rest of Europe will have to soak up another few million 'refugees"
Rest of Europe that failed to integrate Ukraine or into Nato now will find they have yet another human catastrophe on their doorstep. On the plus side it might boost Nato forces recruiting if they become citizens elsewhere

Britain and NATO will do fuck all. Shit scared o Russia imo. Utter disgrace! Where does this mad bastard stop, while the west, who are supposed to help countries, watch idyll buy? NATO talk the talk, but that's it imo.

Sanctions don't work. Put in doesn't give a fuck what the west think /does.

Putin is a madman, similar to Hitler, maybe worse given how times have changed.

No easy fix to this. Fucking horrible times that might make the last two years shit seem relatively easy.

Do they?
I read Russia had nearly a million troops stationed around the border and Ukraines entire force was around 200k?

Add Russias military spend, recent upgrades and all out firepower

Ukraine stand no chance at all on their own.
Air defence pretty much wiped out in a night, helicopters making it to airfields same day.

They've got the biggest non nuclear weapon on the planet, supersonic missiles and more.

I dunno the ins and outs of becoming a NATO member, but if they were in the process of becoming one, shouldn't they be protected as such?
Any nation looking to join now could be considered a target until they sign on the line.

Sanctions clearly mean nothing to them, they know there would be alot of threats and non military action taken against them and still rolled in without any fear of reprisal, he's threatened everyone with backlash should they get involved and we'll all sit back and do fuck all.

He's got the biggest cock and he's slapped it on everyone's chin.

All this talk of sending them weapons to help fight back is pointless, anyone actually believe Russia are gonna let any shipments make it into the country?

Us bloody Trotskyiests sueing for peace.I notice Putin had a go at us bloody Bolsheviks for 'inventing' the Ukraine in the first place (maybe it was down to the fact that Trotsky was a Ukrainian Jew).As for sanctions;sanctions are an economic form of warfair aimed not;where everyone hopes at Putin;but at the poor in Russia.Look at recent Russian history, the people got rid of the Tsar ,the people got rid of Kornilov, got rid or Kerensky, got rid of Gorbachev and Yeltsin, and it will be the Russian people who get rid of Putin.Meanwhile will the West say 'Ukrainians are Welcome Here' we'd say yes ,I dare say Sturegeon'll say 'Yes' but will Starmer? Will Boris?

How depressing . It's that bad, it's not worth worrying about, and I'm born to worry about shit.

On a positive note, I think the only hope we have to avoid a long drawn out nightmare, is that the Russian public itself may convince the Russians to think again.

Dunno He said Zelenski was welcome

Crazy stating Ukraine is a Naxi state when Zelenski and also the 2and un command are both Jews .
For now though, Poland are setting ip reception centres. Not sure of Romania are doing likewise.

Apparently thousands of Russians on the streets at the minute over a thousand arrested so far but the mood isn't great in the country towards dictator Putin.

I hope uefa is planning to boot Russian clubs out of euro competitions and the nations team out of the World Cup play off.

Agreed.

Uefa have made a start by moving the Champions League final from Russia. Next step would be to ban their clubs from European competition and ban their national team, they should also be cutting ties with Gazprom.

I see Sebastian Vettel has said he won’t compete if the Russian Grand Prix goes ahead, F1 should follow Urfa’s lead and move the race.

Putin is a megalomaniac more concerned about leaving some historical legacy of righting what he perceived as wrongs in the break up of the Soviet Union.

However, the west is culpable. It was a huge error at the instigation of the USA for NATO to give membership to ex Warsaw Pact members. Ukraine was obviously a line in the sand. The whole situation isn't black and white with lots of historical legacies etc, etc.

The scenes in Ukraine are horrendous. Nobody in the world should be subjected to such fear inflicted.

I'd say though that Russia hasn't progressed as they'd have expected? Perhaps they'll find it much tougher to put in place some puppet regime in Kiev than they expected...

Well, the former Warsaw Pact countries should have no agency? Given back to the Russians then? After the 20th century a number of countries finally were able to choose their own path and that was to look towards Europe not Russia. And well, we are seeing WHY they chose to apply to NATO and the EU right now.

I live in Hungary, Russian occupation is within living memory. Occupation. It was not nice and pleasant. Russia under Putin would like to do the same just as an Imperial Power rather than a Communist one. No-one wants to be back under Russia, once again we are seeing why. This is not NATO's fault, it is the fault of a very unpleasant ideology of ultra nationaliam being used to prop up the rule of one man and his team of little helpers. It is not Ukraines' fault for existing and the Putin and his nationalists inability to accept that.

Russia could have been different, Putin made sure it went straight back to authoritarianism. Next stop Finland then?

Sorry Smurf, cannae agree there I'm afraid.
The only mistake was not letting Ukraine intae NATO earlier.
If the Warsaw pact countries hadn't been allowed in ( they wanted tae join by the way they weren't forced) the chances are this would probably have happened sooner and been a lot more widespread.
The only one who's culpable is Putin.

Can see more people rising up with this video going around than 100 newspaper articles. Sadly the soldiers were all killed

sorry just noticed Norway had posted this

F1 has been cancelled.

It's even gone so much further...Russia have been locked out the eurovision song contest...wow these sanctions are going to hurt 😰
That’ll teach them , just reading as well that nato are sending more troops to Eastern Europe
