Rumour.

Not turning this into Joe Newell like or don’t like thread but….
I think he is a fine player who would be even better if we played him in a midfield that could give him room to play football.
His game isn’t tackling and running about chasing everything that moves, he is too good a football player for that.

I can understand why he gets a hard time from a lot of supporters, I can’t understand how he seems to be the regular scapegoat though.

Joe is as good as Kyle Mc who seems to be considered our saviour when/if he returns.

I agree somewhat, but he plays well one week and poorly the next and gives far too many stupid fouls away.

I can’t disagree with your points.

I think both could be remedied if he had the right players around him.
We might never find out.

I was talking to an ex pro after the derby game ( a midfielder) who singled Joe out “as a player”.
I hope the lad kicks on with us and proves his doubters wrong.

Both players you mention are nowhere near good enough if we want to progress. One is far too inconsistent regardless of what players are around him. And when he cannot compete with his opponent he resorts to fouling them, then he becomes a liability.

The other has been picking up wages that could of went elsewhere for nearly 11 months. He is also no kind of saviour either, he is a liability who is more injured than not.

If we could sign experienced players for centre half, midfield and a penalty box striker, I’d be delighted. I think Tait will go out on loan, and Tavares looks like he needs to as well. Wouldn’t be sad to see the back of Doidge and Newell (or JDH) either.

Agree with most of that, although I would give Tait a chance.

Describes half our team , another midfielder is inconsistent and scared of a challenge plus a centreback too busy trying to be a hardman to concentrate on his game

In your opinion
All players are inconsistent if we are being objective
I honestly think Joe would be more consistent if he was played in the right role with players around him who let him do his stuff.

“Nowhere good enough” be interesting to get your thoughts who would be in the current market.

I've always thought Joe can play, but the longer this goes on, the more obvious it is that you dunno which Joe shows up.
The one that wants to play, or the one who plays it safe.
I've no got that big an issue with his foul count, I'd much rather a player not let someone run past them so freely.
Half us would be happy if it was him pulling Nouble at the weekend instead of Kenneh not pulling him.
If he was playing for the bigots, Hearts or Aberdeen he'd even get away with it more 🤷‍♂️
He could be a bit more streetwise though, there's not much subtlety to his fouls.

I see him as the player that plays the pass before the assist. (If we had players scoring goals)
He's not the final ball, but he passes into space for other players to get behind.

He hasnt been forgiven for that sending off , Porto does that and the cry is "its so unfair the refs are picking on him "
Most midfielders put a hand out when a player ghosts by them its very common

Are you serious?
Kyle Mcgennis is easily good enough.
The fact his injury has been long term has no bearing on that fact.
He has been picking up wages.
As I said before, Hibs will be insured against such an eventuality as long term injury.

Where have I mentioned all players?
I was pointing out some of our weak links in my opinion.
What role is left for him to play that he hasn’t progressed in?
Two seasons and we are still taking about our weak links and it’s the same names that come up every time no matter how many chances they get.

In this current market there is better players available that would improve us.

I am not the guys agent, honest ☺️ but I think any fan who has played, or appreciates good football players would recognise Joe’s qualities.
Hibs could get so much more out of him, in my opinion anyway.

In my opinion yes he isn’t good enough.
We shouldn’t have signed him in the first place when he was injured.
So if he comes back, it will take him more time to get up to speed
That is a passenger we cannot afford to have especially the mess we are in currently.

I think you have picked me up wrong with your first sentence.
You didn’t answer my question though. Of course there are better players, they might well improve us too.
Then again, could we afford them, realistically?

I just see Joe Newell as an big asset we have yet to get the best from.

Will it matter if he comes back?
Will it matter if he takes time to get up to speed?
If, as you think ,he's not good enough?
Bit pointless?

Instead of wasting money on youngsters we could have easy got Levitt from Manchester United on a permanent deal, he would have certainly improved our midfield.

That’s your opinion mate, I have no issue with that 👍

I guess Scott Allan wasn't good enough either then , health problems

I don’t make those decisions, bit pointless of me giving you those answers. I only gave you my opinion 👍

Am I the only one that thinks there is some kind of "in joke" about Joe Newell being "a player" and I'm not in on it?
I think he is a good player. Granted, he could produce more, but he is very skilful, he always wants the ball and takes it in very tight situations when others might hide. I certainly don't think of him as one of our major problems.
I also heard Stevenson mention him as a Rolls Royce of a footballer , so maybe the players appreciate him more than some fans do.

I was thinking the same thing!
JN has played under 4 full time Hibs managers (so far..) and he's failed to stand out in any of the roles he's been given.
So much so that after all that time fans are still arguing about where he should be played to get the best of of him FFS.
He's painfully slow, inconsistent, a liability in the tackle and is by a country mile the worst professional footballer I've ever seen on his "weak" foot!

Nice hair though.

Out of interest how many of our players have stood out in recent years ? Who was the last good midfielder we had , McGinn ??

You’re not alone. As I said recently, I think he’s both pish and shite 😂

If he was “a player” he’d turn up more than once every 6 games.
I was only passing on the view of someone else.
It held some credibility for me as it came from an ex pro who played for his country.
It didn’t sway my opinion as I do think Joe is a good player.
Always interesting to hear from those who actually played at that level though.
Doesn’t make their opinion anymore important I admit.

I guess Scott Allan wasn't good enough either then , health problems
Scott Allan's playing record in a 14 year pro career tells you there was something up with him.
Fair enough the man didnt know of his heart problem at the start of his career, but his lack of games points to something untoward.
Luckily it was found and treatment is available to him.

Aye wasn’t meaning to seem like I was having a go at you, or the ex-pro for having that opinion. It’s just not mine.

There’s no doubt he has ability, but he just doesn’t show it anything like as often as he should, which is why I don’t rate him.

Dont think so D.
SJM was outstanding.
We have good players now, but they're not in his class. I reckon the only one near SJM s class was Fyvie, though he was completely different to SJM in playing style.

exactly , not many

Not many mate, that's why we've been a torturous watch over the last few years.
Since McGinn left a brief spell from a fit Scott Alan and an even briefer spell when Magennis ALMOST got up to full speed offered some hope in midfield - but apart from that it's been rotten.

Greg Docherty looked very good in his brief spell with us, aside from his last game where he went missing (predictably, it was against the scum).

I liked the Aussie who came from Hull but I can't remember his name 😁
