Rumour.

Connor McCarthy, Conor McGrandle and Callum Hendry all on pre contracts according a text I got.

BTW I reckon it's shite but thought I'd share.

Who is McCarthy and McGrandle, what position do they play mate? Callum Henry Ex St Johnstone? I hope not.

Distinct lack of 'contacted by Hibernian' 'Hibs target' in the weekends press...
There has been very little Scottish transfer stories thi weekend.
The only Hibs related content I have seen is Steve Kean being linked to the Dundee managers job which was in the Dundee Courier and Matt Macey being linked with a move to Luton.

You don't want Hendry 109 appearances 24 goals but you want Cook 141 appearances and 27 goals?
Both have worse goals totals than Doidge

Charles-Cook is a winger, Hendry and Doidge are strikers, for me we deserve better, Hendry went to the Sheep and done fuck all.

I don’t want Stockton either.

Have you watched Stockton?
Powerful guy, great finishes.
26 goals last season in a guff team.
The following are his goals up to November:

Every type of goal amongst that lot volleys, headers, drives, tap ins and even a goal from his own half.
Holds the ball up, bully's defenders etc etc . Looks the biz to me.

I just recall his time up here and he did nothing, I am hoping for players that are on the edge of the premiership first team that LJ mentions in his interview rather than the likes of Stockton.

That was rumoured quite some time back, under Maloney I think.
Is this a ‘new’ rumour or maybe a new version?
He’s not been the same as before covid/injury for sure, but he can annoy defenders.

And some Hibs fans.

Not sure but this was seemingly from LJ telling him he wasn’t part of his plans. Sure will hear soon enough if it’s true or Tom kite.

Someone mentioned 9 goals in 2 seasons we need better .
No player, no matter how good scores when they are injured.
Christian scored 2 in the first 3 league games last season and was very sharp. He sustained his serious achilles injury 2 days later and his season was all but over. It happens.
The previous season he scored 13 in 47 Hibs games sharing the goals with Nisbet and Boyle.
We need to hope he is over his injury and is back to his pre injury form.

Misses far too many sitters for me tbh wouldn't bother me if he moved on .

Not for me and with Nissy out until October we will need two new strikers

9 goals in 53 matches over last 2 seasons. 12 goals in 28 matches first season.
Those stats are league games only. If you add in domestic cup games and Europe it is 15 goals in 72 matches over the last 2 seasons and 19 goals in 39 matches first season. So overall averaging a goal every 3 games. Undoubtedly you would look for a better return from a main striker. However you might also consider what Doidge at his best brings to the team as a whole e.g. defending set pieces, creating space and chances for other players, and so on.

There are definitely issues to consider with all 3 current strikers which make new striking quality a necessity.
Looking at them;
Melkerson is young and inexperienced so should be a back up learning, coming on as a sub etc
Doidge - will he be fully fit and back to normal in a months time
Nisbet - with the serious injury he is recovering from there is a real chance he will have a stop start season with niggles and further injuries etc so it would be foolhardy to rely on him returning in November and firing from the off.

All things considered we currently have a gap for a very good experienced striker.

I'd like to see us take a chance on Cosgrove. Granted he's been shite down south, but how many players come from down south with a good scoring record and shite up here. Then fuck off down south again and start scoring. He was really good for the sheep. Game up here suits him.

I wouldn’t count Nisbet for the first half of the season, bearing in mind the league will stop after the weekend of 12th November for the World Cup shutdown. If he makes it back before then it’s a bonus.

That means we’ve only got the very raw Melkersen (who I think would benefit from going out on loan) and Doidge, who we have no idea how he’ll be after such a lengthy injury lay off.

We need to sign two strikers if we’re going to be competiting for third, our lack of depth in that area has been woefully exposed this season. Worst case scenario one of the two signings is a loan deal for the first half of the season.

The World Cup shutdown should work in our favour in that there won't be a temptation for Nisbet to rush back.
As for your suggestion of a loan striker as well as a permanent. Was thinking about that earlier and came to the conclusion it was a difficult ask to get a player of the right quality whose team won't need him.
One things for sure Johnston won't want the nightmare of no strikers so it will be interesting to see what develops in the next 4 weeks.
