Akinyemi scored 25 goals for Ayr United last season, won the Championship POTY, and was one of the main reasons they qualified for the play-offs. I saw him in most of Ayr's games that were televised on Friday nights last season and there is no doubt he is a talented striker, powerful, passes the ball well, and finishes well. There were a few clubs in for him in January, but Ayr (rightly) refuted all offers as he was crucial to their promotion push and they very much depended on him for goals.
On the flip side his form noticeably deteriorated as the second half of the season went on. From about February onwards teams began to suss him out and he was far less effective. He also stupidly got himself sent off early on in their big play-off semi-final. I think it was frustration (possibly at not getting his big move in January ?) but there must be questions about his temperament and discipline as well. He's not the hardest working of strikers...he's the type that needs good service.
I wouldn't be against us signing him if we could get him, however he did say in public he was keen to go back down south. He has had a lot of clubs for a 26 year old. loaned out a lot. Maybe he's a striker who has found his level ? We would have to be totally sure he was the man to lead our front line. Just have to wait and see,
