Rumour.

Hammi, they didnae get relegated, won the play off against Spezia :giggley:
Relegation would have forced their hand right enough.

Was thinking about Dundee Utd, they still have Behich, Mulgrew and Watt to get off the gravy train.

Behich will probably get a move.

Mulgrew is a player/coach now, they’re stuck with him.

Watt somehow always finds a club daft enough to take a punt on him…

Behich is still in Australia dealing with a personal issue. I get the feeling he isn't keen to return but Dundee Utd seem set on trying to get a fee for him even although he is 32. A little younger and he would have been a good option for Hibs before Obita arrived.

Mulgrew has been told he is free to leave. Talk from United fans is he wants £100k to walk and United have offered him £30k. Probably keek but I suspect he won't walk without a painful pay off.

Watt ruptured ankle ligaments in May and had to have an op. Will be out for at least another month so they could be stuck with his wages until at least January

Reported on dot net that LJ said today at the Q&A that we might not sign a number 9 this window. Worrying if true.

Little bit scary. But the end of the window can change a lot of things.

Maybe ALF or Melkersen are better than expected. Doidge even...
Maybe Obita is waay more impressive at left wing than expected and Youan or Boyle ends up as a striker.

But hopefully someone comes in.

It certainly is....but it was always the big concern for me.
We've lost Nisbet's goals. How we can even think about going into the new season without at least trying to replace that just astonishes me.
Maybe LJ has looked at options available to him within our budget and thought fuck it, I'll do without! And tbh, I'd rather we made do with what we've got than pish money against the wall on rubbish.
Not an ideal scenario, I'll grant yi that.

We've known Nisbet was going for a very long time.
Surely to God they would have been looking for his replacement over the last year or so ?
What we have got up front wasn't good enough last season, and it won't be good enough next season either.
The amount of chances we missed against the amount we created was staggering...and that was with Nisbet !
Le Fondre will get some goals, but at 36 there is no way he is going to play every week.
We have to getting a proper striker in to replace him or IMO we are seriously going to struggle for goals next season.

Scary if true
But this is Hibs every time we get into Euro qualification. If the club had a burning desire to do well we wouldn't be bringing in a near enough 37 year old striker to replace our top goal scorer. It seems we are just plugging the gap. Those LJ comments don't exactly inspire confidence. We have a very slim chance of group stage football based on what potential opponents we could draw should we progress. If you took this squad into group stage games they are nowhere near ready. We need at least 3-4 quality players IMO, one being a recognised striker.

Problem is if he says we are going to sign a new number 9 and for some reason it doesn't happen folk would lose their shit, so it makes sense for LJ not to give a definitive answer.

Kensell stated he was happy Nisbet left and the money we got early so we could make our moves. As has been stated earlier, we KNEW for months that Nisbet was away. We should have had replacements already identified, first choices and backups if we don't get the first choice. If we don't sign a number 9 in this window he's open for the criticism if we start poorly

Lee is probably waiting to move on a couple then I'm sure he will sign a striker along with a ch. Once boyler is up to speed Elie can play through the middle. I can see doidge going out on loan and maybe nelerson and a striker brought in. Levitt looks like he and boyler will lay on the chances.🤞

Lee saying five clubs interested in doidge. He's definitely moving out to make way for another striker. Maybe melkerson too on way out. Would we take a punt on the Ayr striker. Looks a handful. Deffo two out and two in happening IMHO. Or maybe just one quality striker coming in. We'd all be happy with that surely.

I think Melkerson will stay.

I'd go for Nouble at livi! Boy is a beast and is exactly the type of player you want Boyle and Youan aiming for!

I dont want us to play like that.
Think that's a bit harsh on his game. I have only seen him when we've played Livi to be fair but he looks really good with his feet as well. Scored a screamer against us after leaving Hanlon on the floor.

It probably is a bit harsh, but when you've got that up there, the desire to punt it is too high.

He'd probably be effective, I've seen him cause plenty defenders problems.
Just no sure about it.

I'd rather take the punt on the boy at Ayr.
Akinyemi?

Why? Noublé is proven at this level, Akinyemi isn’t.

I’m no wanting us to sign Noublé, just don’t get the logic in taking a punt on a Championship striker over someone who’s scored goals in the Premiership.

We might not like it but we play in the league we play in and we need options. Too often we're fannying about with the opposition defence being far too comfortable knowing what's coming next. We're too predictable.

Because his goal record speaks for itself.
Kevin Nisbet hadn't scored in the Premiership until he did either.

I think he's more likely to score goals for Hibs than Nouble would.

I think we should aim higher, but if we bring someone from within the Scottish system we'd do alot worse than him. I'm not sure much else is available here?

We've needed options for years.
We've finally got a legitimate threat on both wings.
I understand why Nouble is an idea, but I dont think he's the best example of that player. Not that I've got a like for like alternative either.
I just don't think he himself carries enough of a threat to compliment the play.

Potentially off the bench when it's time to launch everything at it.

Not sure I’d want Akinyemi - I watched him in the Scottish cup for Ayr away at Falkirk and he was rotten. Missed a bucketload of chances (although he did also score). Just a snapshot but I was expecting more from him. I suppose Nisbet missed his fair share of sitters to mind you.

Akinyemi scored 25 goals for Ayr United last season, won the Championship POTY, and was one of the main reasons they qualified for the play-offs. I saw him in most of Ayr's games that were televised on Friday nights last season and there is no doubt he is a talented striker, powerful, passes the ball well, and finishes well. There were a few clubs in for him in January, but Ayr (rightly) refuted all offers as he was crucial to their promotion push and they very much depended on him for goals.

On the flip side his form noticeably deteriorated as the second half of the season went on. From about February onwards teams began to suss him out and he was far less effective. He also stupidly got himself sent off early on in their big play-off semi-final. I think it was frustration (possibly at not getting his big move in January ?) but there must be questions about his temperament and discipline as well. He's not the hardest working of strikers...he's the type that needs good service.

I wouldn't be against us signing him if we could get him, however he did say in public he was keen to go back down south. He has had a lot of clubs for a 26 year old. loaned out a lot. Maybe he's a striker who has found his level ? We would have to be totally sure he was the man to lead our front line. Just have to wait and see,

The red card in the playoff final would be the concern for me. Although I haven't seen the reason why.

I'd imagine there's a reason nobody's taken a proper risk on him til now though.

Looks like National league side York City have had a bid accepted for him.
