Meanwhile a scramble goes on for licenses in Cameroon, Namibia and South Africa to drill for and produce oil - but hey OUR emissions will be low. It’s time for our Government to wake the fuck up and realise the UK is a tiny speck in the bigger picture. Get Milliband back to Wallace and Gromit and get the country on its feet again.

We, in this country, can’t use the oil extracted from the North Sea. It gets sold on the open market. We still have to import the fuel we use in our heating, cars etc. Most of the population don’t know this and won’t see a penny of benefit to their daily lives as any financial gains are swallowed up by business, shareholders and the treasury. Only the rich upper 1% ever gain.

Keeping a few thousand skilled people in work in the UK and paying UK taxes would benefit a lot of us - as would having crude oil to trade for refined products. I’m definitely not in the upper 1% but after 30 years in the oil industry I have certainly seen benefits.
Maybe they outsourced the security to Waitrose or Morrisons.
