Daein unfunny impressions of Nicola Sturgeon and carrying a card with Trump is a Cvnt on it is all I know of her, yet her hearse is been driven through Edinburgh before her funeral in Glasgow tomorrow. Now RIP because she's deid but why's this all over the news?

Didn’t know about the Trump card, but that can be the only reason.

I think it's because she was at the festival every year. She was not a good comedian in my opinion.

The book she wrote about her early life Handstands in the Dark is a fantastic read though.

She had a really tough upbringing.

I'd never heard of her apart from the reasons in the OP. Made racist comments a few years ago and was dropped from a covid campaign because of them as well apparently.

Followed her for years on Twitter. She had quite a following and her stand up shows did well, big tours.

The rightwing gang on this forum would hate her for her pro trans stance, which got her heaps of vile abuse from men mainly, which is odd when you think about it.

Latterly, she battled on through a nasty cancer for a few years before succumbing to it - Ironically as Trump was being elected.

She kept touring through bouts of chemo and was an inspiration for many others going through the same.

Fierce and uncompromising to the end. As Jimmy alluded to, she had an incredibly tough bringing up. I think her mum was married to a gangster and he ended up murdering the mother.

Too common for most these days, I guess, but what a feistiness in a wee packet!

RIP Janey

Not sure about the right wing gang not liking her because of the trans stuff. She was only repeating the Nicola mantra. Quite a journey from being on the path to be a Tory candidate.

I don’t know anything about here other than she was as funny as a boot in the baws from what I picked up (wife used to watch her).

However Jimmy ‘s accounts of her life (he’s posted about her before) and her writing about it, win admiration from me.

RIP

The right wing gang 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I just found her comedy to no be very good but that's in my opinion.

I can only speak for myself and not the other Bounce Nazis, but I only knew her as a not very funny comedian. No idea that she was pro trans, but now that I do know I am still only remembering her as a not very funny comedienne.

Billy is far funnier than Janey was.

But if folk want to attend her funeral send off then fair enough.

Ooh that’s a subtle one Doc. One for the connoisseurs.

Seen her and her lassie a couple of times at the festival a few funny moments but not for me wife loved her though which is why I saw her twice

Think toe curling ‘ooh the banter’ bbc Scotland ‘comedy’
Not banter of any kind at all - streams of sweary invectives and real life stories from gangsterland. And unafraid of any criticism. I liked what I read from her, she tried to do right by her own family and her daughter appreciated the fact.

I notice the usual suspects mainly here - just move on if you didn't know anything about her. My parents always said not to speak ill of the dead.

(Usually lasted ntil the next family gathering 😏 )

You read her first book Haarlem?
Nope - don't do books any more - but got the gist of her writing from her talking at length about it on Twitter. Her language skills attracted me - most oeople who swear creatively have good communication skills I find 👍 and her comedy - tho not classic - was an extension of that.

And anyone wi the oomph tae stand up wi that banner at Trump's fairway right at the time he was trying to buy out the last guy on the ground he wanted fir his golf course gets my vote.

‘Usual suspects’? How are you managing to weave Janey Godley into some wider world view thing lol

The stuff I heard was not what you describe, which sounds closer to the writing Jimmy mentions which I have already mentioned wins admiration from me, as it does from fellow suspect Jimmy. Her comedy I’ve encountered via my missus is not like that at all. If she had other routines fair enough, but her bbc stage was woeful

Comedians are a bit like music, some yi like, some yi dinnae. I think Billy Connolly is the funniest comedian in the world, Jane Godley probably the unfunniest. Like comparing Aretha Franklin wi Lena Zavaroni.
Nah it wasn't...I literally have never heard of her.. nor did I know she died
The point of the thread.

Janey put up a very brave fight through her illness. She deserves great credit and respect for the courage she showed.

Rest in Peace, lass.

Ive petitioned the princes in Bounce Towers, with a request to rename the cooshed The Right Wing Lounge Doc. They are on their 5th course of their lunch the now, so should be a while before I get a response.

When thinking a comedian is not much cop, despite otherwise admiring her as a person, becomes the new frontier defining ‘right wing’, then surely we are at breaking point?

That said, someone, somewhere in the UK probably isn’t yet designated right wing yet, so perhaps not; rust never sleeps.
