Charlie Kirk is reported to have died. 31 years old with a young family left behind
 
Tragic. I've watched some of his clips on YaTube where he gives opponents a chance to ask him questions about his beliefs.
 
I'm actually quite shocked

I watch his videos, don't agree with everything that he's about, but I do enjoy him dancing around the folk who have no idea how to debate him.

I don't think he was all that bad.

To be honest EG I can't say I've seen too many clips where he didn't come out on top of the questioner.

Just been reading that it was the second question of the event and the subject was mass shooters.

...for me a murderer is a murderer. (tho' i reserve the right no to give a toss if someone like putin got taken out, but that type of scenario is a bit different)

ive only even seen him getting roasted tbh. utterly schooled at oxford (maybe cambridge)

EGers one of the things I appreciate about this board's progressives* is that while they are quite angry by the standards of this board, they are not at all by the standard of the progressive movement.

Just had a look at another football board associated with particularly try hard leftiness and their response is as sadly predictable and deplorable as it is to 'zionists' - where things are on a whole other level to here. Sadly I think they are more representative.

For all the chat from our dominant media, the progressive left are responsible for a far more hateful and divisive politics than anyone else bar the six or seven nazis that exist in Britain and in similarly small numbers elsewhere. This applies from broadsheet grandees to internet ranters.

Perhaps this will turn out to be an unaligned quack, but the backdrop is a feverish and vengeful climate. Who would bet against the killer being venerated like that Luigi wossisname or celebrated like efforts on Trump's life ?

Meanwhile, will we see cities burn and dozens die, from outraged co-ideologues of Kirk? We might you know, but i suspect not and it is certainly less likely than if positions were reversed.

A really sad thing here is, partisan though he obviously was, Kirk' s style was to try and engage in open debate with all sides. A sadly dying tradition, which has been killed again today, both figuratively and literally. I fear he will not be the last dissenter to meet this fate, either over there, or in due course, over here.

As ever, it must be noted that stormtroopers exist on both sides of americas divide- and both sets loathing Trump et al - but they are far more numerous on the side that hated Charlie Kirk
 
The media outlet MSNBC is currently getting pelters where one of their talking heads has basically alluded that he may have deserved what he got due to his views.

As far as I'm aware MSNBC is the leftist version of fox news. Would that be correct?

“[H]e’s been one of the most divisive, especially divisive younger figures in this, who is constantly sort of pushing this sort of hate speech or sort of aimed at certain groups,” Matthew Dowd said on Katy Tur Reports.

“And I think that’s the environment we’re in. People just, you can’t stop with these sort of awful thoughts you have and then saying these awful words and not expect awful actions to take place,” he continued.

Dowd also characterized Kirk’s fans as out-of-control gun enthusiasts, saying, “we don’t know if this was a supporter shooting their gun off in celebration,” a comment which initiated a firestorm of reaction online.

Interestingly it was said by Mayar Tousi earlier that free speech in the West has been so taken for granted, we are standing by while it is being taken away from us, whilst in dictatorship countries the young are rising ip because they are sick of being silenced

thats not the angle i meant. The guy was not a nazi that i know of. both agitators for their respective causes..... was just a wee parallel that struck me as i read about it. Wasnt thinking too deeply on it..

You can have a million abortions and all is fine. But pray that someone changes their mind and tou will be charged with hate thought crime. Or worse get shot.

You can stand up for gun rights while madmen..and it generally is men unless tou include the girl who didn't like Mondays, but try oipposing the right to bear arms in America.

Free speech only seems to matter when everyone agrees with you.
