I suspect America was "great" in the post war boom.Back when workers earned big bucks, there was white picket fencing, apple pie was cooling on the window sill, when houswives knew their place, blacks were called niggers and gays were I have a maggot punks who got stiff kickings.
Yup, real progress as opposed to the inversion of the word we have today. Still lots to do but what a clip they were at. And then the 60s happened and the party of the Klan became the party of ‘68 and the causes they championed ravaged the poor but particularly blacks, reversing the rapid progress they had been making in prosperity etc. if ever a people had a party that was their class enemy, feck me.
Then OPEC happened, and globalisation started to happen and the generous provisions given to workers broke companies now arranged against foreign competition. Epic post 60s social destruction continued.
Then Clinton sold out American labour with nafta and working class decline turned to rout, opiates, deaths of despair, abandonment by the democrats who had become the party of globalist exploiters and social destroyers. And of course there is always more damage that can be done to blacks, such as the defund the police carnage. Still, they’re reliably dependent on welfare as a population group, and if they can be kept that way, there’s votes in that thar destruction.
Which, interspersed with some dreadful, spirit draining wars, brings us to today.
America still has in its favour a healthy (by western standards) demographic distribution as its (now precipitous) deChristianisation lagged Europe by decades; so it’s not (yet) facing terminal decline in innovation and public services to the same extent, while innately it had a more can do culture. Its immigration problems are mostly just a problem of labour exploitation and without the desperately dangerous development of parallel cultures that we have in Europe. All in all, in a pretty bad shape but fuckiiiing miiiiiiles better situated than our neck of the woods.
It’s still last chance saloon time though. Trump could turn some of this around - because at least he’s not a steadfast advocate of all the things driving it - but he is also a crackpot and could equally wreck things in 101 ways. If he does, America’s tea is oot, and if that happens Europe is in all kinds of shit without them to look after our frail and elderly arses.
Place your bets.
