Strikes,Facts Figures Updates

The French Home Office say 1.1m people marched in France today and the unions reckon it was 2m. The truth probably lies between the 2 which is a lot of protesters.

I think the same again is planned next Thursday.

Maybe a slightly tenuous link to strikes but I know there are a few folk on here who like Blue Rose Code.

Just to let you know Feb 1st is set up to be the biggest day of strike action we have seen this century in this country. The TUC aren't calling it a General Strike but to allintents and purposes it pretty much is.There's far too many expected out for me to give all the details. But you can't say you weren't told.

Latest estimate is that half a million people are set to be on strike on the 1st.That's the biggest strike day in some time.

I'm all for workers rights . Big time , it's always been a passion .
But for me , we can strike , protest all we want , it makes not a difference in this political climate . They care , not a jot. It doesn't effect the folk in power . They are , by and large , multi millionaires, who don't use the services we need and use .
Our only way forward , is independence. Then , we can make a difference . We can vote in a party ,.who speak for us , and are connected with us .
The fight dosent end there , it begins.
Otherwise , we are howling at the moon.
Nurses, fireman, train drivers and workers, Ambulance and care workers, refuse workers , the lot , sadly only effect the folk who are already suffering . The rich , can buy there way out of any of these .
It's a massive change required , and only one outcome can see that reality even come close to it happening.

I want independence but a massive change isn't coming through independence.Look how Swinney and Sturgeon have treated those on strike. It's a disgrace.

More demos today across France. 1.2 marchers according to the government, 2.8m according to the unions. Taking the average - 2m people on the streets are difficult to ignore.

are the strikes in protest of the possible change of the pension age?

If labour dont take advanrage of the situation, at least in England then they have bigger probs than anyone thought.

Not sure it wont happen but if Brexit cost the UK a fortune I fail to see how Scotland would come out well if it does.

I've taken the day off as well. The empty dancer across at the Nid can do without me today

Don't believe the hype.'Biggest day of strike action seen in a decade'.Biggest day of strike action seen since th 1970's.

Not on strike, not allowed to strike (I think) anyway never stopped going to work during lockdown. Paid nothing special wages for the responsibility I have. Can't complain though (that's not allowed either 🤣 )

Fuckin toes still not successfully uncurled.
She’s a fuckin moron but didn’t need to provide such incontrovertible proof of it.

Mick looked half bemused and half amused.

It didn’t look like a picket line from the miners strikes . The police weren’t laying into pickets with batons .
If the younger generation want to see what a Tory government is prepared to do to a working class industry they should read up on that strike from the 80’s. A truly barbaric policy , and these communities, 40 years on , have still not recovered.
I know a retired policeman who was involved , they had a free hand to do whatever it took to incite the miners . All on double bubble . He has told me he was alongside “ colleagues “ who he had never seen before , and didn’t see again after the strikes .
Tories have always been dirty bastards. Always will .
And yet, England loves them 😢😢😢😢

you won't have seen this on the beebhttps://twitter.com/ToryWipeout/status/1636149710359502849?s=20

For those of us who worked and struck through winters and periods of discontent, we were done over not only by the governments of the day but the mass of collar workers who refused to join in and in later years found they were shafted too, and by some of our fellow Unions.

If Mick McGaghey hadn’t been shafted by Scargill, the Miners Strike would have been better placed to succeed. Scargill shafted the Scottish Miners with the help of other Unions and of course Scargill got dealt out of the process by Thatcher, Business and Co.

I left school in 85 and took on an apprenticeship via the YOP scheme which was £28 a week . It was a couple of pounds above dole money .
I spent the next 20 years terrified I would be unemployed ( because that was what I grew up with ) and employers knew they could treat you like shite and their wasn't much you could do about it . I luckily came out of it with a trade , so ended up lucky. Meanwhile , the South of England prospered at a rate which the rest of Britain could only dream about .
It's fu£1n shite getting ruled by Tories , and I have had it all my life . Blue and red ones . 😓
We are now a horrible nation . Maybe we always have been .

So, if iv got this right, already very well off doctors can pay into their personal pension pot untaxed, yet the hoi poloi shall pay more? Am i correct? If so, why do working class suffer these self serving bastards???

Rioting in Marseille and Rennes as well tonight as citizens protest the rise in retirement age.
Not just the increased age, but how it's been forced through parliament. The government don't have an overall majority and were probably going to lose the vote so they used clause 49.3, which permits the government to force through legislation, without a vote, to ensure the stability of the country.

The French are big on democracy so this isn't something they'll accept without a fight.
