It's a product of inference rather than imagination. When you consistently respond to Israeli atrocities with stats to suggest for example Israeli constraint relative to Saddam gassing Kurds, that is going to be read as a defence or at the very least a minimising of those deaths - it's saying look it's a shame but these guys aren't so bad. Particularly when that's tied to echoing the Israeli line on the UN and Albanese.

You might not mean it to (I suspect part of your motivation is contrarian rather than considered) but it does. It's not imagination it's clearly the subtext of your position.

No. I respond to a feverish hate fest with data which puts this conflict into context.

We've been round this before R. The thread is full of stuff that is quite berserk and if applied to other nations or people's would be quite clearly seen as less than salubrious.

Imagine if a thread was full of obsessive focus on black street crime, and was peppered with nazi tropes and suggestions that black people were a unique evil based on said crime. I don't think you would suggest someone contextualising crime stats by noting that white people commit crimes too, was contrary and / or possessed of a sinister motive.

That's what's happening here and I believe it is only because one form of racism has been normalised and made acceptable and - nazis aside - particularly among the left, that you don't see it.

Or perhaps you have a good reason why it is bad to bring facts- or an attempt to gather them - into a discussion, like any discussion.

Perhaps you have a good explanation for why it is unremarkable for Jews to be described as a unique evil, for fantasy blood and soil mythologising to pass unremarked among a community that ridicules Ryan, for his own overt nazism to be ignored on a site given to extreme sensitivity about alleged racism of any other sort, for obsessive war porn consumption to be completely normal and healthy, while all other conflicts are pretty much ignored (Ukraine aside).

Anyway, we've been round this umpteen times and there's little mileage in doing so again. I've made my position clear many times over, and it is far from excusing of Israeli actions. Its just not pogromist either.

You call me a contrarian if you like. But that would make you a conformist by corollary, one of the majority that always just goes along. I don't believe you or any other here is an anti semite. I very much believe you are being influenced by anti semites. I’m not being a contrarian here at all, though I do confess that wherever I see a mob mentality it repels me, whosoever or whatsoever that mob is trying to burn.

You seem particularly offended by the introduction of facts, even though far from the most enthusiastic basher of me otherwise. Is that perhaps your conscience bothering you?

Everyone knows other countries also pursue genocide, that not in dispute. Start a thread about any if them be they historic or current and I bet you'll get little debate because they'll likely be universally condemned, unlike Israel where we get equivocation and whataboutery. Reminds me of those that also go easy on the crimes of the British or other European empires. Difference now is that there is supposed to be a international rules based order (imperfect I agree)

Ignored here and in the national media? You know the reasons for that are multi facetted - would al Assad or Hemetti (Sudan) have state visits to the UK recently and to the US currently despite the ICC indictment?

Israel are not engaged in genocide. No other country - and long before 7/10 - is subject to their citizens being harassed or excluded and their country subject to boycotts. No other people is subject to racism not only without protest from the great and the good but with their active involvement. Not Russians, not Americans, not Islamist radicals.

If that’s not colourful enough, pick another. But genocide is an effort to wipe out a demographic group. Slaughter within urban warfare where - if analysis is correct - ratios of civilian killings are way below the norms of warfare, is not an effort to wipe out an ethnic group.

According to your usage, Germany were guilty of genocide during WW2, but so also were the UK and the US. If you think there is no distinction between the three, I think that’s nuts, but that’s where your logic takes us.

That usage is promoted to you, me and gun ainm by people who very much want to dissolve that distinction, for various reasons, none of them good.

The two Labour MPs lied that they were an official parliamentary delegation, they were also told they could appeal the decision and Israel would pay for them to be put up in a hotel till their case was heard. Not 100% accurate G. The yemeni and Chinese members of Parliament were told they could appeal the decision and were offered to be put up in a hotel while the appeal was heard, they didn't.
Just a thought, if a Chinese and Yemeni member of Parliament turned up in shanghai to check on the condition of uighers I wonder how they'd be treated.

I think that you'll find Ryan that some on here agree with you that genocidal actions occurred in former Yugoslavia. Likewise the majority know that genocide is taking place in the here and now in Gaza including @Hattie.
