Israel

I see the point made regularly that why do folk get passionate about Palestinian lives, and not other folks being killed eg Sudan, Yemen? And it does sound like a fair point.

After a lot of reflection personally, I think a reason must surely be just how much involvement our government, and the US government, has in helping Israel with carrying out the murders of those civilians in Palestine.

For me, regardless of where it happens, I feel very strong opposition to any murdering of people by, or supported by, the UK government. Particularly civilians. For want of a better word, it's weird to me that we are so forgiving - or really, even supportive - of the Israeli state killing civilians. It's very blatant what they do.

I think that's why folk speak out about it. Not antisemitism.

For one thing, antisemitism hasn't ever crossed my mind personally. I dont think I ever met a Jewish person growing up. In fact, any feelings I had towards Jewish people were always sympathetic, learning about world war 2 as we did at school. Absolutely nothing has ever made me view Jewish people in a negative light.

But the country Israel? Absolutely their actions over the past 3 years have made me very, very critical of them. Especially their leader Netanyahu.

I hope he will be voted out at the upcoming election.
