My current gas and electricity supplier agreement is ending on August 31. They are offering to fix again but its treble what I currently pay. Alternatively I can stick with their variable rate which is £100 more than I used to pay. Currently with EDF, anyone any suggestions?

I've been with Octopus for approximately 4 years. Good company.
I went from £80p/m dual fuel( fixed), to £150 at variable rate.
I'm no monetary whizz kid M, but with another blast of price hikes due in October maybe 3x is the going rate.
Unless the new PM/ chancellor helps out?

Forgot to say...shop around before you commit.

After 3 previous suppliers going breast skywards, (I was with one for three days!) I’m with Octopus too now.
I‘m sticking with variable at the moment.

I'm with Bulb. Was at 191pm, they increased to 233, but after the last couple of readings and with the credit balance I had, they offered to put it back
down to 191. I took them up on the offer.

If you're thinking of Octopus, get Shrink or a n other to send your e mail address on to them. I dont know if they are back to doing so, but both people get 50 quid added to their account.
They had stopped taking on new customer as they had taken on the folk whose utility companies had gone skyward.
Worth a check.

Whatever you do just now is risky with energy costs whether that is variable or fixed.

Alot of energy companies are not taking on new customers but it will be easier to change supplier now with the process only taking a couple of days as oppose to 3 weeks with a amendments the government and Ofgem have introduced.

Bulb are trigger happy with upping yer DD just for fun and you cannie move it down despite being a month in credit as I top up 30 a month.

Looking to move as well but they all seem the same.

They are in financial difficulties at the moment too. Best advise so far was octopus who suggest you stick with your current suppliers variable rate for now.

Standard variable is still likely to be the cheapest tariff from October onwards in most cases. Double check the rates before you commit to anything.
