Tv series

This programme really is ridiculously good -- in my top three of all time. Still think The Wire was better, but I think Succession may just be better than The Sopranos. There, I said it.

Ooft big statement, not so sure, but in my top 3 too.

It's very very good but I'd say The Sopranos nudges it. With Gomorrah snapping at both of the above shows heels.

The Wire is very good, but it lost its way a wee bit with maybe 1 or even 2 too many series. The good thing about succession is they recognise 4 series is enough and it won’t drop off.
I’m a big fan of The West Wing and that went on for quite a while, but it’s based on 4 year cycles so makes sense.

I do like succession, but it’s still a wee bit off Soprano levels for me. It’s a top 5 American TV show, behind sopranos, curb your enthusiasm and West Wing, with The Shield making the 5

Succession has been excellent, probably one of the best shows in a long time.

But as good as it has been, it’s no even close to The Sopranos. Hard to judge it fully until the end, which might put a different spin on how I view it overall, but it’s not quite at that level.

The Wire is tremendous, but would have been better ending after the third season. Four and five have good moments, but there’s too many filler episodes in them.

One thing is for sure… HBO is unrivalled.

The last series of The Wire was pretty pony. But the geezer who created the series i read his book. He was a journo who spent a year with Baltimore cops.

Cannae mind the title just now but ill find a link and post it .

Rather sadly i also look up each main character to see who they were based on in real life. Some interesting stuff like.

Like several other characters on "The Wire," the inspiration for Avon drew from a real person from Baltimore. According to the Baltimore Sun, the real Avon was named Nathan Barksdale, an infamous head of a violent heroin operation in Baltimore's Murphy Homes public housing complex in the 1980s. His nickname was "Bodie," which was given to one of Avon's crew members in the show. Also like Avon, Nathan was arrested and sentenced to prison (15 years in his case), released and then arrested again for drug-related crimes in 2014.

I watched the first episode of the Sopranos and thought it was total garbage, take it it improves?! I had bought the first season on Blu Ray so was financially invested in it too! Just couldn't bring myself to watch any more episodes.

Need to check out Succession.

What made the Sopranos different from other gangster shows is it deals with Tony Sopranos actual family as well as the gangster family.

Most of the plot lines were taken from actual events in the mafia story and characters an amalgamation of various real monsters.

It's worth sticking with though. Watching the characters evolving.

anyone watched war sailor on netflix yet - 3 part Norweigan drama set during WWII looks promising...?

coming to the end of Ozark so thats next on my list i think (Ozark has been pretty decent tbh - not amazing but good bingefest)

Finished Godfather of Harlem tonight, next is to get through the rest of Vikings and the last series of Succession.

An interesting take on Succession , which I like, aptly less than 24 hours after Murdoch and Fox News v Dominion humiliating $787.5m (£634m) climbdown.

BIG G

Will give this a read when the series is complete as it has spoilers. Knowing the excellent Brian Cox is involved suggests any pop at the uber rich is deliberate.

I just finished Chimp Empire, a 4 part documentary on Netflix. It's brilliant!

I just finished Perry Mason on Paramount Pass.

Braw!

I take it you mean Series 1 or have you shotgunned Series 2 already? I'm currently watching In from the cold on Netflix.

No I've done them both. I currently have faaaaaar to much time on my hands!

It is a good watch though.

Chernobyl
5 episodes.. harrowing but good.
Watched it about 3 years ago, watching it again now and still brilliant

Succession final season starts on Monday.
I found the final season a huge letdown. The siblings changing their minds & strategy every 5 minutes became too much for me. There's no way that cousin Greg would be kept in anyone's loop let alone being free to walk around and eavesdrop amongst both sides of the ongoing conflicts and Tom is too fucking useless to be given any responsibility.

I really enjoyed the first 3 seasons, but for me it went tits up when Logan snuffed it. It became more stupid/annoying than anything else.

I see our manager Lee Johnson has only gone and got himself the lead role in the new BBC drama, Gallows Pole.

Try and stay off the sauce Lee, we probably need you next season!

No idea about any of that, but this seems awfy spoilery for a show that's pretty recent? 😅

Not really - I think everyone knows that Brian Cox cops his whack. As for the rest, there's nothing new from the other seasons.
