I'm not sure Ireland was ever the template.

It may have been used as an example of an independent small country doing well but at various times but so have so many countries from all the Scandinavian countries, Costa Rica, New Zealand, Malta, even the Seychelles! I really don't fancy Iceland other than for a visit!

As for Ireland themselves (currently 2nd highest GDP pp in the world), if I had a Euro€ for every time someone like you suggested their tea's out, well I'd probably move to Mauritius!

Its not down to me Jack, indeed I am one who has held up Ireland as a potential blueprint, and one somewhat more realistic than the Peoples Republic of Scotland.

But it is - and as I have said when doing so - entirely based on the globalist racket. Which the Donald seems to have in his sights.

I'm sure you already know, but he is obviously hinting that from immigration, America has benefited to a great extent, none more so than producing a president who not that long ago had his roots in Germany. As well.as confirming a bond between them . But unlike your pretence, it has went flying over the Donalds shredded wheat heid.

you are not picking up on the apparent point, that a native from Germany can be just the man to " make America great again"?
the rest of the world can see the Donalds lack of political abilities and are merely giving him a taste of his own medicine, and to an extent, getting their retaliation in first.
that's how I see it anyway.

Nope it didn't occur to me. Everyone knows Trump is descended from migrants to the States like huge chunks of their population - indeed all of them bar the native americans, and actually them too if we want to be pedantic. His Scottish side gets more attention here for obvious reasons, but its common knowledge and it didn't occur to me it might be a 'point'.

So yes, i did fail to get it, if the point was other than him having german ancestry which greencol said it wasnt and i'm not sure if youre saying it is or isn't.

Either way it bears no relation to today's situation, albeit perhaps not quite so epically as the invented 'mongrel nation' history of the UK.

I'm hazarding a guess though between us and the new migrants they would welcome us.

It's crap when folk protest about no being able to get a hoose.

I mind when the socialist workers party demanded hooses for working folk.

When Ireland and Scotland were at Italia 90 our population was ~50% greater than theirs. We are now ahead by 3.5%. They'll be larger before long I expect.

As ever, a view from our land-that-time-forgot, is a dubious footing from which to judge others.

Brits bad, global capitalism good is what I think I'm picking up.

As far as I am aware noone is out there campaigning for integration of state and industry - if anything close to the opposite - so there seems to be a deficit of fascism on display.

Not many out their fulminating about Jews (we all know which demos we'd find them on) so not Nazis either.

There might be some Irish nationalists there, and there may also be a few identity politics diddies exploiting the situation. But unless i was wrong at the start and Findlay is now a Brit as well as a global capitalist I'm not sure of his beef with the former.

Perhaps he'd agree with me, and perhaps you, that identity politics resembles the nazis a wee bit, and we can then all agree that the latter are a) wanks and b) a much smaller part of these demos than many others these days?

It is a worry, but I think Trump's moves are likely to be popular. I daresay this is nothing compared to the carnage of the BLM era, but i suspect Americans are sick of 'mostly peaceful protests' as well as the general disintegration of blue cities.

He has a long long way to go to reach the control state the democrats enjoyed never mind fascists though. They still have the vast majority of institutions, business, courts, media, wealth within their apparatus.

This is going to be the way of it though, because America, like Europe, is breaking down. Somebody or other i going to depart from democracy at some point, and probably with democratic support (meaning the people not the party).
 
Iirc LA is a 'sanctuary city', one of a number where the local democratic junta has decided to ignore the law and prevent illegal migrants being deported or otherwise challenged.

Local royalty benefit from labour exploitation while the plebs bear the consequences, legal migrants most of all. It seems to be quite a central plank in the feudal model of contemporary democratic party politics. As above I expect Trump wont have difficulty in getting support of the oppressed masses here.

This already happened during his last Presidency, and was demonstrated horribly during the Jan 6 riots. 4 years later he then got 'the democratic support' of 80 million.
