TRUMP IS A See you next Tuesday

This already happened during his last Presidency, and was demonstrated horribly during the Jan 6 riots. 4 years later he then got 'the democratic support' of 80 million.
Indeed.

And thats to say nothing of the other side, who apart from invading state capitols, were only stopped at the white house in a far more violent confrontation than jan 6th, while elsewhere trashing cities to the tune of billions and killing dozens.

And they were defended even praised by democrat politicians and covered for by the media.

Now they're murdering or torching Jews, and CEOs.

It's some place right now, the US!

That's some rewriting if recent US history. But you're in good company, there's a lot of it about.

Which bit Bossie?

Just because the media cover some things more avidly than others isn't the same as what has and has not happened.

If you note which bit you are unsure on I'll help out.

I was particularly taken with the false equivalence between an event designed to prevent the orderly transition of the power of the state and societal unrest. But I'm all ears.

I didn't say anything about people's reason for being there though Bossie.

You could just as easily, btw, talk of dubious equivalences in levels of hysteria over a bunch of hicks that were never gonna do fuck all except get themselves shot, versus a group that torched buildings and vehicles and put basically the same number of rozzers in hospital, as part of wider mayhem that killed dozens and wreaked billions of dollars of damage...which in their totality were described as 'mostly peaceful'.

Or if 'threats to democracy' are your main concern you might emphasise efforts to wipe out a good chunk of the gop during Trump 1.0. Or perhaps left wing mobs invading state capitols to stop legislation and being praised for it by democratic luminaries.

If pushed to rank by significance I'd go for those who wreak most violence and damage and there is no comparison there I'm afraid.

Let's face it, America is a shitshow all round. But one half of it is covered rather differently than the other given the integration of media and state apparatus. Which if you are worried about incipient fascism...

Meanwhile this is quietly happening

As an aside the 'Big beautiful bill' contains provisions that forbid states making any legislation against AI for 10 years. Why might that be?

You can see why Trump's look over here strategy is so effective. And you can see why the tech bros are so keen on Trump. He's letting them do what they want. And if Trump takes ill JD Vance, Peter Theil's long term protege is there to step in.

But sure, look over there.

Who is trying to distract from AI? I think you sometimes see events as surrounded by a swirl of codes and intrigue that, well, aren't really there.

I mean they could hardly have tech more front and centre. They've even suggested they'll invade Greenland over it ffs!

As Musk how well the tech bros are getting on.

Since the LA riots are in my neck of the woods I'll add to the conversation. I didn't know it had all kicked off until a friend in Edinburgh text me asking what was happening on Sunday. I put on the news to see chaos in DTLA. Torched cars, buildings vandalised, businesses looted, police overwhelmed taking shelter under a freeway overpass etc. The reporting I see will not be much different to what you see. However, I did get to see a minivan being driven by an overweight shirtless guy go tearing around DTLA, doing donuts, running red lights etc with no police pursuit (po-po probably busy). Very, very dangerous behavior. It could have ended really badly but remarkably it didn't

Anyway, it appears the protests did start out being peaceful by well intentioned people. However, towards late afternoon things started to get spicy as the usual rent-a-mob and malcontents started to show up and they started to get more animated. Apparently it went south pretty quick when they saw the national guard inside the federal buildings. On Sunday evening I actually passed by DTLA on the way to LAX and all I saw was press helicopters but I didn't see any obvious signs of trouble. Traffic was unusually bad on the 5 south which may have been protest related.

The head of ICE was on the radio explaining what was going on. ICE had warrants, signed by a federal judge to search certain businesses, mainly in the fashion district to go after money laundering and other illegal business activity. The ICE agents were to be backed up and protected by the national guard because LAPD are not part of the federal law enforcement and probably wouldn't help anyway. Los Angeles being a "sanctuary city" refuse to cooperate with ICE. In fact LA will do what it can to protect even violent criminals being handed over to ICE for deportation. They are asked to notify ICE if they arrest any naughty illegals so ICE can get them but they won't, they would rather release them back into the community. The head of ICE states they are not indiscriminately rounding up illegals and citizens. It was believed by some that a Home Depot had been raided to pick up day laborers who may or may not be here illegally. Apparently this was not the case. The ICE guy said that they have a list of people who were denied asylum or whatever and told to leave. These are the people they are going after. I don't know if any of this is being reported, probably not because it doesn't have the theater of Newsom v Trump. And that is what it is between these two, theater. The LAPD chief has admitted his force was overwhelmed during these times, you can see some of them pinned down under a freeway overpass trapped as a mob hurl concrete at them. He didn't quite say it but he seemed relieved to have the National Guard in attendance. LAPD was victim of the defund the police nonsense from former mayor Garcetti and current mayor Karen Bass is much the same, useless. We just had the Palisades raized to the ground on her watch in January.

Anyway, for the past ten years or so, Los Angeles (and many other cities in California) have become cesspits of lawlessness due to dopey democratic policies. And this is the result. It is still pretty mild by the BLM standards but frankly, I'm sick of the disruption to our daily lives and the destruction to the city these asshole "protestors" bring while Gavin Newsom postures in front of the cameras yelling "come arrest me." Is Trump within the law sending in the National Guard? I don't know, possibly, possibly not but if the NG weren't in attendance things could probably have got even more out of hand.

No one has been killed but 2,000 sodjers have been sent to the city. Is that right?

Tell you what, if only the citizenry was armed to the teeth they would be out fighting against the invasion of the city by the fascist state.

Bossie, how would you characterise administrations that decide to ignore the law and democracy to enable their boss class continued access to cheap labour at the expense of their own citizens and the country at large? And who are almost completely integrated with media and institutions, and also the media, enabling their writ to be the presiding narraritive not just locally or nationally but internationally.

Tldr: if an integrated governmental / institutional/ industrial regime casts aside democracy and the rule of law in favour of rule through their power alone, what label might you give that?

Trumpist.

Oh I nearly forgot @Bossie - how should a democratically elected government respond to trumpists ditching the law, nullifying its standard means of enforcement etc?

Crazy stuff on YouTube live channels of demo's in LA, Chicago, NY amongst others...
Tech beyond me H. Is there perchance an outbreak of mostly peaceful protests underway where the local juntas have rejected the rule of law and democracy, as iirc is the case in all these places?

I hope our more sensitive colleagues dont see this till the morning or they'll be tossing and turning fretting about encroaching fascism, the breakdown of a rules based order etc. Protection of establishment rules, BTW, seemingly having become a preoccupation of latterday anti fascists and so on, even 'anarchists' would you believe!

Not much you cant buy when the price is right, it seems.

It's just a habit of yours, very offputting and distasteful if you don't know (or care) what is discussed here.

Just go to Youtube.com, probs accept some basic level of ads, then type in the search bar at the top: "protests live america" or some such. Then try a live news channel, there's hundreds.

My go-to for this kind of thing is the 'Agenda-free TV' channel. Guy in insert comments box looks a bit like Armando Iannuci?

I can imagine holding prejudice to account, by being consistent, can do that.

Thing is H, I'm actually an anti fascist, which is to say im not fond of integration of power structures and rule via that power, and the politics of identity and division, especially - but not exclusively - when deployed to buttress the former.

And this applies equally, whoever does it, and whichever groups they arrange as in and out. That said i confess a weakness for punching upwards vs down and prioritising power and its minions over the lumpenproletariat. This is an imperfect approach, but speaking as perhaps the last left winger ( i reference the meaning of the term before it was perfected / 2+2=5'd) on the board i ask forgiveness for my foibles.

It would be an easier life accepting the narratives of the man, accepting the actually prevailing prejudices in our society while buffing my virtue by tilting at windmills, being grateful for the indulgence of pretending to radicalism as an indulgence that rewards loyal servility...but someone needs to take the path less trodden and also to declare 'no pasaran'. And that is so, even if from contrariness rather than from loyalty to the new boss. I fancy that at every time it actually meant something that was often the case.

Funny on one level, less so on another: because this will be down to his fear of a US president abusing his position to pursue a personal beef. Which is a terrible pass for the US to be at. I mean it wont be new to Trump but the extent he does it probably is.

Might be more to do with his company shareholders telling him to STFU to avoid the lunatic in the White House cutting billions of $ from their investments

Indeed, although that cutting is the type of Trumpian revenge I had in mind. Though some of the government contracts that were discussed in the press - whether they were real or the product of fevered imagination, im not sure - absolutely should be binned anyway.

I have in mind things like army purchase of his ridiculous robocop truck, because what every squaddie needs in the middle of a desert is to be encased in a rickety death trap that needs a charger every few miles.

You can keep setting it up like this forever. But the reality is one half of the bounce debate chamber tries to look at it in the round, another not so much.

Let's take this case for a minute; on one hand Trump's actions are certainly disturbing.

On the other they are in response to what the entire establishment has for years conspired to present as 'mostly peaceful protests'.

In previous instances the results were billions of dollars of damage, dozens of killings and a white house face off comparable to Jan 6th. Were those events nornal? Was the gaslighting around them normal?

This case doesn't appear to be on comparable scale, though plenty bad enough. But the context is state level democrat regimes basically openly declaring they will ignore the law and democracy to thwart migration controls. Is that normal? Aren't we supposed to be worried about the discard of of the rule of law in favour of naked expressions of power? And this has been going on for years, nay decades.

So to answer to your question, no Trump's actions are not normal. Nor is the situation that has provoked them.

America is no longer normal. The rhetoric coming from the very bastions of the American establishment are now being enacted, with jews murdered and Jewish homes and bodies being set on fire. Is that normal? The current president has been subject of two maybe three attempted assassinations. During his last term there was an attempt to wipe out a chunk of his party. Are these things normal? Or the facilitation of occasionally murderous far left mobs to occupy parts of cities for weeks or months. Is that normal?

An over mighty and increasingly undemocratic and authoritarian liberal establishment unambiguously 'started it' and got away with it unopposed for decades. They have now been met by equally deranged opponents.

If you want to boil it down into a goodies and baddies cartoon that ignores the reality, how are you any different than those you complain of?
Dude - I deleted the post. As I said, what's the point. I hoped I got rid of it before anyone commented. It's just not worth it.

folks bending over backwards to justify the Donalds mentalness. barry.
'these folks are bad cos they are doing what the January trumpers did'
FFS you couldnae make it up.

Absolutely noone is doing that, nor has anyone at any point. (assuming you mean on this forum). I'll reuse the response i previously gave to HM then deleted.

[Addition to the original text] - was the collaboration of three letters agencies to aid democrat electoral campaigns normal? Is the fact the 95%+ of American journalists and ivy league faculty are progressives- and progressively eliminating alternative viewpoints - normal? Is fascism not the integration of state, industry and institutions? How far was the liberal elite from a (relatively) benign form of that? Is that normal?

I aint complaining about anyone for starters.
just observing.
as for goodies and baddies, I'm not against seeing it that way as you seem to be. I usually try to be on the side o the goodies.

most of the time the choices are fairly easy.
Juan has worked 30 years in LA at the car wash. has a family, pays his taxes, a good upstanding member of the community.
*&*^ show up in masks and deport him.
right or wrong? seems simple to me.

Hope he stays safe.

Who are the goodies though? A coalition of the upper middle class interests intent on dividing the less well off so as to rule and pump them, inexorably squeezing the life out of democracy and turning truth inside out to gaslight a nation ....well they don't immediately strike me as the good guys. Its not obvious that a single malign behaviour of the Trump bams hasn't been done by them first and with far more power in their side. Im sure there will be some peripheral examples, but not enough to change the fact they are the prime movers.

Well it does if you want to resort to simpleton caricatures. How is this different from saying its all about Raul, a serial rapist, who democrat governors contemptuous of the rule of law, will protect to the detriment of everyone else?
