He’s done very well betting on reality rather than narratives.
Apple top? Wassat?
when their shares were at their maximum value before they tanked. In other words he sold his shares at the best possible moment

The problem is not so much competing with others on the development and production of their own finished goods. This has little to do with what Japan and Germany pulled off back in the day, indeed it’s likely to absolutely fuck Germany over the next 20 years.

It is about labour arbitrage - the ability to endlessly bid down the cost of your own labour through having a globalised elastic workforce. It reduces workers to the equivalent of spanners or photocopiers - you just shop around for the cheapest. Exploitation at its purest. It also eliminates the need to invest in manufacturing efficiency that would help goods be made domestically.

It is also about western companies giving the likes of China the technological expertise they need to outgun the west, and India control of the operations of service industries, in return for that ability to swap in cheaper workers.

I think you are right that the horse is bolted, but we need to at least focus on the races as they are run today.

I’ve no idea what captive markets the American empire lost by the way. I mean honestly this anti western mythology is served up to soften up western labour to their own exploitation. I’d pass on it if I were you.

I was referring to the captive markets the the UK lost post Empire, would have created the complacency that created the wider issues once the Empire had gone due to lack of investment, training and imagination. British governments and firms threw away a big advantage in computing just as one example.

Us markets have lost $6trillion since Trumps shenanigans . Which is the amount he preficted the Us would gain 😩

Im not convinced empire has anything to do with it at all. The economy of today is largely a post ww2 thing. I do agree re British industry, bad management and bad unions did for things like car making ; the Japanese have since proved you can make cars in the UK.

Computing perhaps too, but I’m less convinced. It’s a scale game and we were never likely to win out there in terms of establishing standards - and that is part of the reason the original wave went by the wayside. However right up to the present day we continue to fail to grow scale players, which we should be able to do, with ARM being the most heartbreaking example.

But this is a British problem not an American or German one, and yet globalisation has routed - or looks likely to be about to in Germany’s case - their workforces due to the aforementioned labour arbitrage and tech giveaway. It’s not all greed mind, the generous provisions made to prior generations of workers wrecked their car industry for example. It wasn’t just about the competition doing stuff better. I think it was GM that was described as becoming a pension fund that made cars.

I'm sure I read yonks ago that in Germany the unions decreed that workers should be able to do wirk a five day week and earn enough to live on and live a decent life.

They can decree what they like; once offshoring gets going it means less than zero.

US stock markets dropping like a stane but eggs are cheaper.
Thank fuck for that. :50:

Says the gadgey that just posted; "the smart money will be buying the dips."
:28:

I was being sarcastic. Not for a second am I surprised that Trump hasn't made his rich pals even richer. I've always believed he wants to "Make America great again" The fucker has money and power and now wants his legacy to be as one of the greatest presidents in history. His huge ego firmly believes this.

Do I think he will, probably not. Do I want him to succeed, absolutely I do. I live in the States, I'd be utterly stupid and stubborn to not want him to succeed. He's the president right now, that's the bottom line. Wanting him to fail and the county to turn to shit is a losers mentality.

I think you're absolutely spot on here. Aye, he'll do all he can to save the super rich money cos he's one of them but if he did something that got a lasting legacy for him but he has to shaft all his rich pals he'd do it without a second thought. He'd love to have a Trump day, Trump march, Trump month etc etc. Fuck, I think he'd flog his own kids if it got him on Rushmore

Even Elons slowly changing his tune, says it all
Musk has never ever been ‘on the same page’. He wants continued ability to import migrant workers and it doesn’t surprise me he wants no tariffs with Europe where he wants to sell and where he manufactures. I expect he wants tariffs on Chinese cars to protect his shitty battery-fires on wheels - though it hits his own Chinese made vehicles - but other than that he is a global capitalist and a libertarian to his bones I expect. The likes of a Steve Bannon loathe him for it, and are sworn to get rid of him.

I suspect Musk’s motivations are;

- protect Tesla
- (understandable) rage at the bampot wing of the democrats as one of his sons has gone all trans (maybe if you’d been around though Elon…)
- minimal regulation of AI

.
I can absolutely confirm eggs are not cheaper. Cheapest I'm seeing in my grocery store is $10 a dozen all the way up to $20 a dozen for most expensive.
Just quoted the Trumpet, I have nae idea what the price of eggs has tae dae wi wrecking the economy.
Is $10 dear for eggs? Dont think they are as expensive over this side of the water.

Normal price for a dozen eggs where I live is about $5 a dozen. It's not wrecking the economy and eggs, it's that Trump said he'd lower prices a week or two after he'd been in office. If anything, they've only gone up in price.

Trumps rhetoric on China even today is quite funny, China arent going to even blink at his blackmail. With Trumps pals slowly turning against him i reckon he'll give it a week and then backtrack with the words 'job done'.

Fcuk me that’s unreal - I just bought a dozen this afternoon for £2.40.
$5 is about £4. $5 is expensive.

not sure how what we are seeing actually happen corresponds to what some on here were saying in the election build up :5:

Apparently trumpet was going to be great for the working man.

so far, prices thru the roof (aye including yon eggs) and normal folks 401k pensions being decimated.

Harris tho....blah blah blah.

"Speaking to reporters inside the Oval Office, Trump reiterates that he'll impose an extra 50% tariff on Beijing if it doesn't withdraw its retaliatory levy by midday tomorrow

If imposed, it could leave some US companies bringing in certain goods from China facing a 104% tax."

One big chunck out of Apples profits as the tariffs hit their biggest market.

They're charging their logo to have two bites out of the apple as China, Apples second biggest market, retaliates.

They'll be down to just an apple core at this rate 😆
