TRUMP IS A See you next Tuesday

If they're "Communist" then they can't be having monetary relationships with anyone. That would be a contradiction in terms. Therefore they can't be "communist".
Well if you want to go down that road there is no such thing as communism and never was, and never could have been. I think that’s a bit fundamentalist personally; they have retained the essence, ie totalitarianism, slave labour, executions etc while adopting real world economics. They may yet be the people that vindicate communists after the most failed record in human history, so perhaps cut them some slack?

Imo he’s either the clown he appears to be or an authentic poltical genius. And I don’t think it’s knowable right now, least of all to him. If he is assassinated (increasingly likely imho) or just makes a cock of it (also highly likely), he’ll be a standing joke wherever captains of industry clink glasses and their progressive stooges fuck up the young.

If on the slim chance he actually does emancipate the working class and reverse the apparently inexorable progress of China’s world domination enterprises…well it will literally change the world.

Time till tell.
Seems this was always all about China. Good time maybe for them to invade Taiwan....

Darn tootin it is. As above, America’s arsenal is emptied, Russia are making more munitions than them and the US combined, Russia and China are way ahead in ultrasonic weapons that I read make US aircraft carriers - their time honoured platform for ‘force projection’ - into fish in a barrel.

America has wasted so much time with the shortsighted naïveté or perhaps venality of Clinton and Bush, the glib idiocy of Obama, and the not-even-in-the-room vacancy of Biden. It’s hard for people to appreciate the extent to which things have changed over the last 20 years, given the studious efforts not to tell us, but while we we staring at our navels, they have changed nonetheless.

Bollocks. He tapped into Americans blaming everyone that their life was shit and it was China/Russia/Biden fault. He won two terms with unrealistic promises that never could be achieved, then blamed Biden/Russia/China when he didn't get what he wanted.

He's an entitled man child who put tariffs on an island inhabitated by penguins, and thought that when meeting Christian Bale was actually Batman.

He's a fuckwit of the highest order who's lucked his way into a position of supreme power.

But you fanboy all you want dude. Go for it.

For me it's always been that I felt he was a better option than Biden/Harris. I'm definitely not a fan boy, I just believe he's more competent than the previous president who could barely string a coherent sentence together. Or Harris that couldn't answer a simple question without rambling about something completely irrelevant to the question.

Time will tell wether he's making the right moves, he firmly believes that he's going to make America great again.

Borrowed from t'internet. I don't know how true but plausible.

The case for intentionally tanking the economy. 10% of Americans own 94% of stocks. This money leaves equities and goes into Treasuries. Interest on treasuries drops and $9T of debt is refinanced at 2% instead of 7%, saving $4.5T.

Follow the money.
Hence the 90 day hiatus.
Big tariffs. Markets shit themselves.
Halt tariffs. Markets recover.
Who made money out of the slump and recovery?
You Bill? Nah. Didn't think so.
Me neither.
Yi think he might dae it again in 90 days? ⬅️Rhetorical.

So is that a good thing or bad thing? Reducing debt?
Its farting against thunder Jimmy.
It's only the supposed 'poorer'nations who have low debt per GDP.
The big guns like UK, US , Japan etc have not a snowball's in hell of servicing their debt ongoing.

Except bonds went up; which is probably what caused Trump to blink. I'm not sure why anyone would have anticipated trashing the American economy would make lenders decide to give it more favourable terms, but perhaps these things don't need to make sense.

Honestly chaps, don't turn yourself into Ryan. We can't just replace reality with more comforting Conspiracy theories.

I've always wondered how the likes of us who are up to our necks in debt can 'lend' money.

Who exactly are we due money to?

Has anyone?

If anyone has, you will also have, if you have a pension. I'm not sure anyone has though.

If we all really need an evil rich conspiracy to cling to, the people who seem likely to gain if he can force a currency devaluation- aside from American workers - are the bitcoin crew. Guess who they have taken to supporting?

I've stayed out of this thread mainly because for me, Trump is a fucking idiot who should be nowhere near a seat of power, never mind the most powerful one.
In fact, hes indescribably fucking moronic.
Stringing together a coherent sentence is beyond him.
If he was in the boozer with you and yer mates he'd be the guy to whom everyone says'for fuck sake Donnie, are ye fuckin wise?'

I tried to keep it simple for those of us who like it like that.
It's not a fucking conspiracy. It's an age old caper for the rich, by the rich.
You can dress it up with all the vocabulary you can muster, but it's been going on for as long as we've stood erect.
And it ain't gonna stop.
Ever.

I watched my pension pot tank by £50k last week, not to mention our other investments. There’s a lot to be said for the old biscuit tin under the bed type of savings.

We don't lend, we borrow.

We sell bonds to the money markets, which are basically interest paying ious. The interest the markets demand depends on what level of credit risk they view us as being.

That's why those rates are going up under Reeves, to even higher levels than Liz Truss prompted. That makes it increasingly expensive for a rooked UK to borrow.

Col is right. Its a doomloop from which there is no exit.

Again this is the backdrop to these wild times. The west is headed for disaster as things stand, and Trump is risking immediate disaster to try to reset the world and escape it....at least for the US.

If you have a pension the stunt you describe would see the value of your pot increase. Has it? Mines hasnae, quite the opposite, which seems to be the case for blue toon an all.

Trump and his mates

Mine has.
But then I'm a rich capitalist ex cooncil plumber.
And musician.....
Good for you....and especially good for whoever runs it for you!

They must be in on the sting :;):

That is remarkable though. I mean pension funds should broadly align to the stock markets. If a stunt of the kind you describe was pulled it would be a bonanza for pensioners, people with stocks and shares ISAs etc. It doesn't seem to be that for most of us!

A timely bookbub alert. Kindle edition of this is currently 99p

"Globalisation was once hailed as the great leveller, bringing prosperity to all. But the world has changed. As Russia, China and Iran have sought to upend the international order, America and its allies have mounted unprecedented economic retaliation. The global economy is now a weapon of war.

Chokepoints is a thrilling behind-the-scenes account of one of the most pivotal geopolitical shifts of our time. Drawing on extensive research, personal experience and interviews with key players, Edward Fishman, a former top US State Department official, takes us deep into the back rooms of power around the world. Here we meet an eclectic group of innovators: the diplomats, lawyers and financial whizzes who’ve masterminded a fearsome new arsenal of economic weapons, exploiting Western dominance in global finance and technology, and harnessing the power of Wall Street, the City of London and Silicon Valley to confront a rising authoritarian axis."

Bugger me Eegie!
I'm still enthralled by The Adventures of Noddy in Toyland.
And I'm expected to plough through this???
I may not live that long?

I’m a bit like that with some of EGB’s posts . Oh for some laymans phraseology 🤣

I tookfixed pensions when given the choice, so I don’ t think ( hope ) it will / wont vary with the markets 🤔

No it wasn't. They are making it up as they go along.
OK I'll trust your opinion over those on Newsnight last night like the very much respected Tim Marshall. Of course the issue with trade is China from the perspective of the US although ironically exports from China to the US is much reduced since Trump was last in. China knew what Trump wanted to do 2016 - 2020 and prepared accordingly.

Amazes me that folk from a supposedly left perspective want greater globalisation and to see all our manufacturing decimated. Oh well they can drive their Chinese electric cars, book their Uber and check-in to Witherspoons on Facebook bemoaning if only those red Tories hadn't shafted Jeremy Corbyn we wouldn't have all these terrible cuts to welfare....

People have been very successfully redirected by identity politics et al. Thats what they are for.

You're right though, it's still dazzling to see people enmeshed in positions way to the right of Thatcher while apparently believing themselves to be of the left.

when exactly did you change from your "left perspective" Smurf?
