Many of seen our trips abroad in the summer vanish over the last few months. Those of you who know me, know I love going to Spain and spend 2 or 3 weeks in Andalucia every summer, I was supposed to go later this month, and was heading to Sevilla, Cordoba and Sabinillas (near where Hibs played in January). My hotels in Sevilla and Cordoba have offered me vouchers to use in the next year, I am good with that as I had booked non refundable rooms, fair play and I go to Spain every year. My pal who I rent my place from has refunded me my deposit in full. Easyjet are taking the piss, they have offered me 100 options on re-booking and one on refund. The shits have offered the refund for the flight out as its cancelled, they have not offered a refund on the flight back as its not been cancelled (yet!). Friends and family that were booked to travel late March have still not received refunds. I expect a long wait.

So what to do in these difficult times? I need a break, I have worked my backside off during this crisis. Scotland is a beautiful country, we have been careful in our steps to the return to normality and have made mistakes along the way. We decided this summer we would stay in Scotland and have chosen a cracking lodge near Oban for a week in early August. What impressed me was the owner of the site has committed to a full refund if we have further issues with the virus or the lockdown requirements, they fog the facilities before we move in and there is a chip van on site!

What hassles have you all had and what are your plans now?

I’ve spent most of the lockdown working in London, like you have been working harder than normal during the pandemic.

I’ve decided to book a week off and spend it at home, in sunny Edinburgh.

Good thread. Look forward to reading replies from those informed as Mates who come to visit from the Fatherland have probably seen more of Scotland than me.

Ryanair - refund request in and know it will take a while

EasyJet - wasn’t sure the flight would be cancelled as Portugal wasn’t too bad mid March so opted to rebook to Tenerife in Oct for free

Eurowings - bejng twats and only offering rebook or voucher despite multiple requests

Hotel refunds received. Both thru Zen hotels who are a good agent

I was lucky i got back from holiday 2 days before lockdown but ive worked right through too and need away . We've booked 2 nights in Banchory with two pals in October and we're doing a night in Thurso and the next night in Ullapool in late August . I've never been further north than Dingwall so looking forward to hunners of fantastic photo opportunities

I've got a book Photographing Scotland , more incredible sights than i knew about . Can't wait to be honest hope the weather plays ball

Was booked for 10 nights in Portugal on the 1st June which has been refunded and rebooked for next year. During the first period of lockdown I was furloughed by my company but as the months got more and more down the line I got made redundant.

I know Daz mate, being in the hospitality business and my role was managing New Business there wasn’t any and won’t be for a while as the industry is closed. The government kept on mentioning this will reopen soon but the industry owners don’t share this at all as under the social distancing guidelines it isn’t worth them reopening financially.

shame mate , hope things improve very soon

Chip van sold it for me, I'm in!

I was lucky and managed a long weekend in Alicante before the shitstorm happened so at least I've been away!

Lads weekend in Benalmadina in March cancelled. Mate booked the flights with Ryanair so no surprises we've not had a refund yet. Mates house, no problems there.

10 days in Salou cancelled, would have been back this week. Rebooked easily with Jet2 through Fruitin Travel.

Was supposed to be going to Copenhagen for a half marathon ?‍♂️in September, not me running obviously :3: My wife booked all this. Easyjet and non-refundable hotel. Not confident about getting much back here.
Back for 3 days.
Off to Benalmadina with Mrs Jackie for 2 weeks. Just tracking flights just now, mates house so that's not an issue.
Back for 3 days .
Off to Menorca for a week or 10 days through Jet2. I'm not confident it will happen but confident I'll be happy with the alternatives offered by Fruitin Travel :))

There would have been another lads weekend and we're talking about it but nothing firm.

In between all that Mrs Jackie and I would have been travelling as far as our bus passes would take us to places all over Scotland for a long walk, the pub and home.

To be honest I can't even see us getting as much as a LRT bus in the foreseeable.

Sorry to hear that. Hope you get another job soon.

I've not worked since 20th March. Not been able to work from home for various reasons. Currently furloughed. Rather than a holiday I would just like to get back to work.
Thankfully I didn't have any travel or holidays booked apart from a week-end in Liverpool I had planned for next month with my nephew and was very much looking forward to, we've postponed that now till the bars and clubs are able to open again without social distancing which will likely be next year now. Can't wait to travel abroad again, but I realise that probably won't be this year.

Heard Jet2 have been well ahead of the game when sorting people out including refunds so will bear that in mind when flying with them is an option and F opting for the one that’s a tenner or twenty cheaper.

Sorry to hear that D, you would think they would keep furloughing for now, its costing them nowt?

Always book with Jet2 the service is second to none.

That was my thought as well and worth comparing to cases where companies were furloughing ex staff who had only recently left them to help people out in exceptional circumstances.

Stag tae Benidorm in July cancelled, trying tae rebook September weekend. Hope he disnae bring his wife??

Me and My Daughter booked to go to Benidorm on 5th Aug,Travel Republic say they’ll let us know 2 weeks before dep if hotel is a goer.
No heard anything from EasyJet yet.
Happy to travel if able to tbh but nightmare if one is cancelled but not the other.

My recent experience, EasyJet will contact you exactly 2 weeks before you fly and try and do everything in their power to get you to rebook with them or take vouchers.

Was meant to get married 1st of May, honeymoon to Lake Garda Italy, all cancelled.

Honeymoon refunded by Jet2 didnae even have to contact them, they emailed us! Wedding re-booked for next year, will wait to see what happens before rebooking the honeymoon..

Was meant to be in Lake Como/Milan in April. Lost hotel money and after 7 weeks got full refund off EasyJet. I bombarded them with twitter DMs around 20 times a day for the 7 weeks until they eventually replied and then it only took 3 days to get my money back.
Luckily hadn’t booked anything for summer and think the best case for us would be getting to Elie or the East Neuk for a few days later in summer. As @1875 says, we live in a beautiful country which is going to need picking up and put back on its feet. If me spending some money in our hospitality industry can make even a tiny contribution to its survival I think it’s a good thing to do.
Had plans for a possible big birthday trip to either South Africa or USA next summer but considering shelving this until the world stops self destructing.

I remember the wife asking me why there was sand pits at the side of the road at the Berriedale Braes!
Watch out for artics coming round the hairpin bends.
Done a daytrip from John O'Groats to Orkney which was quite interesting.

Had my trip to Amsterdam in March postponed until September (not convinced that will happen either).
Had a week in Orkney planned in July, but ferry company cancelled the sailing, refunds from ferry & accommodation no problem.

We have provisionally booked a wee self catering cottage for that week in July, in the East Neuk of Fife, no big deal if it gets bumped (free cancellation) and easy to to pack & go if it is a goer.

Can't fault Jet2, meant to be of to Greece next week, they emailed, told me it was cancelled and full refund in account 3 days later

Was meant to be a staycation for me and my lot this year - a week near Skye, first week of the school holidays, but we’ll not be in phase 3 by then so cancelled till another time.

Had a 1000mile self supported cycle round Scotland lined up in just over a weeks time (technically a holiday away from everything - an extreme self isolation in itself) but that’s put off to next year.

A weekend trip to see Hibs win the Scottish cup in May postponed to late 2020 early 2021.

Will look up North in October school holidays.

Not wanting to go too far from home over summer, booked caravan at Coldingham bay for four nights mid July and a cottage down East Lothian way later in month, be good to get a change of scene

Waiting for dry period up in the wilds, proper social distancing with my tent, sleeping bag, kettle, porridge, honey, hip flask, night stars and my wee mates the midges. Fancy the Isle of Eigg again, maybe Rum. My idea of heaven.
Na Daddy, You've got it all wrong! What you want to do is fly with a plane full of passengers to one of the holiday resorts in Spain. Get pissed and lie about in the sun till you're fried through. Two weeks and you'll be a new man. Enjoy.

Love just disappearing for a few days up the hills, get into trouble for saying two to three days and extending it by three to four days. No phones, the only thing I need is scenery, solitude and my camping necessities. Not for everybody, but highly recommend it. Try a night up the Pentlands, then spread your wings up north. The only rules, leave things as you find it.

Didnt have anything booked this yr holiday wise we had planned to see what was available last min
ive worked right through 10 hr shifts working for a supermarket its been like the run up to xmas for 3 months so need a break

Weve booked a cottage near Dumfries end off Aug for a week part off the country ive never been gonna do a bit off walking

Had a couple off punk weekends booked Rebellion and Scotland Calling both cancelled till next yr

I am in Oban for a week in early August. I did suggest meeting with hibbiemacfie who lives up that way, but he was angling for me to buy him beers, talk about local hospitality. ;))

I am going with another 17 close family members (spread over 4 chalets and caravans), looking forward to it, although I doubt solitude will come into that trip, best I might get is reading a book on the porch before everyone wakes up!

But I am still looking to go to Spain when its safe, I would rather be there than here truth be told and I love Scotland.

I went campin tae Oban wi my family when I was 7 years old and had £1 tae last me the week. I spent 14/6 on a torch and my old man went fuckin tonto ?. I thought I could buy the torch and still have a shilling a day and widnae need one the last day as we wid be drivin hame. My Maw saw the funny side when I explained my logic.?

I think I'm going tae have a long weekend in Bournemouth at the beach :giggley:

Actually nah, have a few wild camping weekends and Munro climbing in some wild and lonely places in Scotland, that will dae for me. As far off the tourist trail as possible. If thousands of other people want tae be somewhere, I want tae be exactly somewhere else

100_1147.JPG Disnae get much wilder and lonelier than this place, my wee one man tent in the wilds of Rannoch Moor in 2017. Scotland is an amazing place :grinning-smiley-045: ???????

Booked to go to Krakow with Easyjet in mid August. The return flight is showing as "sold out".Easyjet are saying that's either because the flight is sold out or in case it may have to be cancelled. So, I'm uncertain as to whether I'll be there or not.

Down to Carrick Shore on Friday for a week, wee bit later and not for as long as usual, but I cannae wait for it. Also heading to coldingham for a weekend later in the month.

October school week got a motorhome booked, not decided where we’re going but maybe go to Shetland and the north coast.
