Sorting what happens when you die

Before I emigrated I had quite explicit views about my eventual funeral. NO religious aspect whatsoever and cremated with no fuss. My very religious sister basically called me a selfish bastard and the family would decide.🥴
If your sister is very religious then she probably believes in an afterlife. Tell her you’ll come back to haunt her if you see any god botherers at your funeral

I suppose that's a benefit of a prepaid funeral.

Mine in pretty basic re coffin, cars, tunes and definitely a non religious ceremony.

I'd like to get to the stage were all my family need to do is to pop into the funeral directors and say 'he's deed' and it's all taken care of. Not going to happen, I'm too lazy 😅

Thanks everyone for your replies.

If I reflect on my reasons for posting this, it was genuinely to help at least one person sort their shit out.

But - looks like the bounce have got it sorted 👏

There's an extra dimension btw - pensions will be part of inheritance tax next year.

Anyway I digress.

I've got a fucker of a situation where my wife is gonna get screwed over by her brother. Cos he is smart, rich, and influences the dad.

So... what I'll do now is appeal to you all... please.. treat all your bairns equally

Ryan wrong again? Shocked and stunned at that. :coffee1:
To be fair I’ve known a few expats in the oil and gas industry who’ve retired/semi retired to Thailand and they’ve all told me similar to what @Ryan69 said.

I probably do need to do a will. I have a few policies that will see the mortgage paid off and the wife and kids comfortable should the worst happen, so at least that side is taken care of. Actually phoned up my main insurer last month to disclose I was now working in Iraq to see if it invalidated my policy. Luckily it doesn’t.

Me and my brother got screwed over for IHT when my Dad died during Covid. PM me if you want to hear a list of stuff not to do!

Can only echo what others have said about getting this in place and your wishes shared with your loved ones, whatever those wishes might be.

I lost my mother very suddenly in May this year and nothing was in place. No will etc. It was really difficult to second guess what she would have wanted and the money/ inheritance situation got quite unpleasant
