Scottish Elections (2026)

The hubris was strong in that one. Like itemising his own personal wealth was ever going to be a hit with the electorate :lollol The Greens laddie ripped the self-important wanker a new one.
The bit i liked the most was how Offord tried to play the poor boy made good with "I went to London as a young man with £2000 of debt and had to work hard to get to where I am now" but he forgot the bit where he went to London and walked straight into a job with one of the world's leading Merchant banks which does indeed make him a merchant banker.

The point he was making was he came from fuck all, worked hard and contributed by employing thousands and paying over 45mill in taxes.
Compare that to swinney who's never had a job outside politics, has been paid over 2.5 million from the public purse and has fucked Scotland chances of independence
Worked hard at his first job in one of the world's leading merchant banks before eventually starting his own private equity firm. Aye, really fucking grafted eh.

Reforms flyer arrived this PM.
They're gonna cut income tax by realining to 3 bands and cut each band by 1p below englands.
End the use of hotels to house 'illegal immigrants'( cant fucking help themselves) and ensure Scots are given priority in their communities.( priority to hotels?)
Save the Scottish NHS by launching an emergency plan to shorten waiting lists and improve GP access by reducing waste(?).
Get your health insurance ready.
Abolish VAT on heating costs and reduce fuel duty for drivers.
The numbers for these woukd be worth a look( or laugh?)

All this for us lucky Jocks.

From what is, to all intents & purposes an english nationalist party party.
That'll be difficult as it's a reserved matter and the Home Office decides who is housed where.

It wasn't about who deals with it Dubster.
It was the constant se of 'illegal immigrants' as opposed to Asylum Seekers.

You think you only work hard if you get your hands dirty? I would think he's probably put in a lot more hours than you or I would want to, and I've worked some long hours in my time.
Maybe we shouldnae let anybody work hard tae start a business, employ thousands and pay mair tax than you or I would pay in a 100 lifetimes.

Indeed. I’ve worked with PE guys, and they put in hours that I’d wager most on here wouldn’t tolerate.

PS I want to be clear I don't really have much of an opinion either way on the guy in question.

But you don't even recognise what you've written down yourself. I know for a fact that doing both of the things cited means you have certainly worked pretty fucking hard. Whether it takes any special talent is another question entirely -- and for the record, I don't think it does -- but the commitment required is total.

I think it was a smart move on Offord's part. He's extremely rich and knows he's going to be attacked for it. So he gets it out there and plays it as the old Scottish 'worked hard made good story'. Impact one: attacks on him look like they are jealous carping. Impact two: focus on those attacking him 'what have they done for their money'. Impact three: spotlight on anti Reform activists who have more houses than Offord. Impact four: anti Reform activists say they don't want someone who has paid £45m in tax to be here. That begs the question 'who do we want here' which is a discussion Reform very much want to have.

I can't stand Reform, but it is a mistake to assume they aren't smart. Offord has taken his biggest vulnerability and turned it into an attack.

I think ye are spot on with your outlook there Archie.

As I said before it will be interesting to see how many votes the Edinburgh South candidate gets.

It's been said on here that racism plays a part in the Reform vote. So with them having a black geezer standing surely no one will vote for said geezer.

Indeed. Bit like the Eminem 8 Mile thing!

"Fuck this battle, I don't wanna win, I'm outtie
Here, tell these people something they don't know about me..."

Eh?
Racism definitely plays a part in the Reform vote, but not all Reform voters are necessarily racist.
Think your logic has gone a bit awry on this one Jimbo.

Just having a wee bit of a fishing trip there Doc to see who would bite.

I suspect the only taxes he's paid were on behalf of his housekeepers, his car valets and chandlers.
Glasgow Times asked Offord yesterday if he was a top rate income tax payer, and he had a bit of a touch-nose type tell before saying he was :think

I was thinking more Corporation tax and income tax. Maybe Capital Gains?
When you pay that sort of taxes you pay people handsomely to minimise it, some legal, some hunnish legal.

I'll be absolutely honest, I doubt the leader of the reform party in Scotland has paid any personal taxes in Scotland.

HMRC collect tax on behalf of the Scottish Govt. There is a residency qualification, so how much he pays will depend on his primary residence.

Taxes such as land and building transaction tax are collected by Revenue Scotland.
