Rumour.

Seems a bit odd that he just signed a “multi-year” contract with Charleston in January but hopefully this is a good sign (and signing) for us.

Supposedly we've signed Colton Swan from Charleston Battery.

6 figure fee..joining after his season.

American journalist Tom Bogert is saying anyway.

According to Transfermarket, he is valued at no more than $100,000.00, and at 19, he hasn't played a lot or scored many goals, so I hope he isn't edging out any of our development squad youngsters, assuming he is coming to Hibs.

Almost done by sounds of it.

Interesting signing. Not sure another young striker is what we need with Lowe and Elding.

One thing though, this sentence made me vomit “Pressing target forward / channel-running 9”… fuck me what a load of old pish! He’s a striker, every striker should be able to press and run channels, basic part of the job. Sounds like a fancy way of saying he doesn’t get between the sticks enough to score goals, but will wait and see.

He's not coming to us until January apparently. Maybe our Elding replacement.

Those are buzzwords directly from the spreadsheet.
I would almost guess that's exactly where the description comes from.

Lowe has many attributes but looks really raw. Elding is a top prospect. Both are talents but I think we're going to struggle for goals relying on they two youngsters learning their way. I'm not sure though what kind of striker we require?

A Grant Holt. Someone who knows what it takes to bring those other players into play, but also suits the long ball forward we love.

For me we need an experienced target man who can lead the line, hold the ball up, and link up well with others.
A physical front man who is good in the air, and can help bring on and mentor the Eldings, Lowes and Sutos.
It's too much to ask a 20 year old loanee to do this.
I also like Nathan Lowe. As you say he certainly has lots of good atributes to his game,
but it looks to me that he is feeling the pressure already of being a young lad being asked to do man's job in a tough league..

It looks like Klidge may be on the way out given he has had hardly any game time under David Gray.
I think that's a pity because I do think he has ability and can offer something the other forwards can't.
Suto IMO should be used as a main front man, he certainly looks more suited to that role than he does playing wide.

I think the club would be happy to offload Klidge and Suto.

Agreed but my fear is we just launch it more.

I spent last night watching a lot of Scottish football podcasts. It was interesting listening to Kevin Thomson & Scott Brown defend David Gray (both though are pals of DG and both have their laddies in the youth set up). KT in particular thinks we've as good a chance as any getting 3rd.

On another podcast I found myself agreeing with Tam McManus. The performances are so poor that the results won't keep coming. Alan Rough thought we were an awful watch. Alex Rae thinks we will get to the European league section and the League Cup final...

Simon Ferry, Andy Halliday, Derek Ferguson all think we've got a really good squad capable of playing good football.

Derek Riordan says he needs dragged along to watch us....

David Gray correctly talks about our "fantastic start" to the season because bottom line is Motherwell result aside we've progressed in all competitions. I have genuinely though found as a horrible watch and agree with Tam McManus. If we continue to play like this we've some awful results coming our way. We really need to play much much better.

Swan looks good in the air (sorry) so should be a good one to get on the end of crosses from Passlack, Mayor/Cadden etc. He seems to be having a good season Stateside so hopefully he can be integrated quickly when he gets here. I agree an old head would be ideal for this season but they seem to be in short supply. At least we’re not just trundling along in the hope that something will turn up so I think this signing is a statement of intent.

Is it possible?
If we don't go forward through Passlack or Mayor/Cadden then we go long. Either to the corners or straight up to the forward.
We've not resorted to hoofball, but that long pass is definitely what we play for.

We do have as good a chance as any imo, but that won't start to be an option until we see which of us, Hearts and Motherwell make it though to the European Group.

I agree with these. We're too hot and cold, one week we're great, the next week the opposition shut us down with ease. But think there's some evidence of us moving forward on the park.

Alex Rae thinks we will get to the European league section and the League Cup final...

He's off his head. If we get group stages we will not be able to perform every week. Every Scottish club has proven this so far imo.

Simon Ferry, Andy Halliday, Derek Ferguson all think we've got a really good squad capable of playing good football.

Agree. But think the football style negates a lot of it.

Derek Riordan says he needs dragged along to watch us....

Some weeks I definitely feel that. Not as disappointed if I can't make it just now, used to be a nightmare if I got made to do anything else.

This was one of the things I spoke about last season, I would've tried to move him on, because it's not trending forward. This time last year you could barely get a ticket at Easter Road, this year there's empty stands. But on paper, he's not in a sackable position.

I'm happy to see what happens over the next couple months, but the progress we have made, needs to keep going. Otherwise we'll go back to the same week in week out.

I think you're right, but I agree with Greenmachine that Suto could probably fulfil the target man role. Klidje looks to have been a waste of over a million quid, not because he doesn't have the talent but because, and this is just my guess, Gray is too stubborn and intransigent to now give him the chance to show what he can do.

I know the "You don't see him in training" brigade will be out in force, but I do see the effort he puts in when he is given a chance and let's be honest, Lowe is no better than he is and given the one-on-one chances Lowe has already missed this season, possibly worse.

Some experience

Agree with all of that. We have so many excellent players who should be able to take a single touch and move into space but collectively we couldnae pass water. Our players just dont move enough into space. Many times in the last 3 matches it was like watching slow moving statues when we had the ball, and that is a SDG coaching problem.

Speculation that we're looking at 6 players that cover 4 positions. Obviously not looking to get all 6 but if they're looking to get 4 in I wish they'd get their finger out!
Problem is Gray likes "hybrid" players who cover more than one position, could be one player !

I don't see it as a problem overall.
But it really depends on the player.

Lewis Stevenson would play anywhere and everywhere asked. Much to his detriment. Finally got left back locked down and became a legend.

Josh Campbell has played wing back, full back, defensive mid, centre mid, wide midfield, on the wing, upfront... And looks best at attacking midfield, but still fills out everywhere. Same story, minus the legend, but moving around and doing every job imaginable holds him back. But it gets him minutes.

Obita can play left centre back, full back/wing back. And it works for him.

I think being able to play multiple positions is a good thing, but you need to be able to establish yourself in a main position too.

I don’t think it’s a problem football players can play football in different parts of the pitch. In fact, I hate all this pish about only being a “holding midfielder” or a “number 10”, load of shite.
Yeah I wasn't saying it was, just a wee joke that the hybrid player could be one guy :). Anyway, apparently Arsenal's success last season was partly down to Arteta having a squad of adaptable hybrid players. It's probably seen as an effective way to manage the budget but maybe results in slightly more pragmatic football.

Exactly that type of player. A craig brewster or of course dwight gayle type. There must be one or two good older pros out there who would love a couple of years here to finish their career. Gayle clearly loved it here as did holt. Give them a bell snd see if they can recommend someone. :giggley:

Weve made just short of a million from europe plus the gate money and the money from bowies transfer so certainly should be able to sign at least 2 or 3. Too late for tonight but if we get through then definetely should get decent players in. If they are good then others may be looking at them too. Celtic have been patient and looked to have got 2 or 3 very good players. A couple look better than engels who they got ridiculous money for. A triantis type and a striker who isnt a youngster but strong. A garry oconnor at his prime ideally. When he was on it he could be unplayable at times. Pity his career went the way it did. Best striker scotland had for many a year till he went to russia. The less said about that the better. A disaster waiting to happen.

I do not think we 'love' the long ball, but as has been said by another poster here( Greenmachine iirc?), we now lack pace so the target man/ long ball (if you must) is the preferred option at this time.
Unfortunately, Lowe doesn't have the experience or strength to do the job of getting the ball down , holding off an opposition player and laying it off.
If he had we wouldn't be discussing whether its long ball or otherwise.

He was decent, but that's a bit of a stretch Porty. 46 goals in 136 games for Hibs up to 2006 [Deek scored more goals in less games in roughly the same time period], then 12 goals in 33 games in 2011/12 and scored 4 goals for Scotland in 16 starts.

It's been the preferred option since Dave started the job.

It's not a criticism, it's just how we play.
Pass around, draw them forward, go long. Press the back once done.

I meant he was a perfect target man for scotland. Deek the better player but oconnor was just right for scotland. Oh how we could do with someone like him just now. Problem is he'd be here for 18 months then sold.
