NHS Fife tribunal around trans doctor

For women Scotland are challenging the Scottish Government because the SG chose to prioritise trans rights over women's. They could have gone the other way. Nothing to do with Westminster. But you won't believe that.
Which part of Parliamentary Sovereignty don't you understand?

Fuck, even the Scottish Government are getting to grips with it 😆

That's not the SG argument. I think you are trying to say Westminster made them do it. Why are the Scottish Government not saying that. Why are SNP MSPs complaining about the Scottish Government? Their argument is that they don't want to breach trans prisoners rights. They could have gone the other way and had trans prisoners challenge them in court. They chose not to do that. It's all on them.

I said earlier that you wouldn't believe it. I now realise you can't.

Not everything is about nationalism. Sometimes there are important issues that cross party lines. You can see that here as even SNP MSP's are speaking out.

The thing I don't understand is that the pursuit of this appears to be very unpopular. Why do this in an election year and why sully an independence vision? I just don't get it.
Are you deliberately missing the point that it's a Westminster law, which means Scotland has no choice but to follow, or risk being taken to court, as was the case with the deposit return scheme? I know you want to blame this on the SNP, and like most others, you revert to the sneering "yeah, it's always Westminster's fault" while blithely ignoring the fact that it is actually Westminster's fault.

How is it Westminster's fault? The Scottish Government has made a choice that is being challenged in court. It could have chosen to not put trans women in women's prisons and maybe face a court challenge. But it didn't.

The SG has been the administration that has pushed the trans issue hardest in the UK, so this can't be a surprise that they took this path.

Did you know Wes Streeting met the Darlington nurses? What chance of the Scottish ministers meeting Sandie Peggie?

I guess my question to you, as someone who clearly wants independence, is why are they doing this?

Who are the haters of Scotland?

The SNP are destroying any hope for independence, ever.

They are alienating people with pish like this and it is going to take years to row back. By that time their embrace of English style migration will have cooked the goose full stop and for good.

You can slice and dice the indy referendum vote many ways, but one key one is Scots voted for independence. But the country does not only contain Scots and so indy lost.

Ten years from now when Scotland has a much much larger non Scots population, how many economic migrants - whether from England or overseas - are going to vote for 20 years hardship to exclude themselves from eleven twelfths of the economic opportunity offered by the UK, to which they have recently gained access? Why would we expect more than a minority to do that?

So you remain loyal regardless to these students union clowns if you like, but to realise the grievous and soon irreversible damage they are doing to the indy cause, does not a Scotland hater make.

Quite the opposite really, some of us are sick and tired of the daftiness that is a direct product of not standing on our own two feet which has made us politically juvenile. FFS regular Scots sign up to stuff that in other countries only trust fund brats are taken by.

To understand all this and to dutifully follow on, that would be to hate Scotland, or independence anyway.

I don't think I am doing @Archie a wrong by saying that I think he is a unionist. I don't think anyone else is. But some of us aren't born with our caps in our hand.

The problem with the SNP is their inane method of supposedly getting Scotland independence . They slag off anything westminster enforces ( or tries to ) on us, even if it is the best thing for Scotland .
The supreme courts ruling on biology is the entirely right and proper ruling but because it comes from down south they are basically saying to them fuck off 🤡 Swinney and his band of idiots are trying to get independence by basically intimating that if we were independent the supreme court would have no influence on us even though their ruling is correct and just to 90 odd percent of our population . Absolute muppets . Detest Swinney 😡

I've not intervened on this discussion about toilets, changing rooms, and jails, however have read it all. Before giving my wider thoughts it has now bizarrely taken a pro or anti Unionist, of which I'm in the latter, turn!
I've watched The Tory government over the past several years intentionally stirring up anti-trans hysteria as part of their culture war. This has emboldened reactionary, transphobic elements in society in general, leading to greater harassment, abuse, and discrimination against Trans people. From migrants, benefit claimants, public sector workers to Trans people, the ruling class, it's representatives and willingly little helpers, make a scapegoat out of anyone and everyone, if it helps them pin the blame for capitalism’s ills on someone and anyone other than the capitalists and their failed, broken system itself. Trans people, will no doubt in my mind, face increasing insecurity as a result this frenzy. Further to this, Judges’ rulings have been picked up and amplified by the MSM and political parties to again whip up the culture war. The truth is, no amount of legal definitions and courtroom decisions can tackle the oppressive material conditions which men, women, LGBT or Trans people face. No matter what is written on pieces of paper regarding gender, accessing NHS treatment, affordable housing, decent employment or the cost of living, are increasingly a pipedream for millions in the UK, which will be in the forefront of people's minds whether in May or General elections and certainly not the Trans question in my opinion.
The fight against all forms of shite thrown at workers and their families, including that faced by Trans people, must be a fight to transform society along socialist lines in my opinion but you all know that I think that anyway.
Friday morning rant over, I'm off to have a bevvy tonight and then on to see a cool jazz gig. One things for sure, if I was instead heading off for a months Caribbean cruise tonight instead, this thread would sadly be double the size it is now on my return!

Do women get a look in in all this? Or are they out in the cold with the workers, the Jews and everyone else on the wrong side of the reality behind the words?

Until you connect these grandiose, ego buffing statements to real world consequences, you will remain the unwitting servant of capital, the establishment and sometimes even more unsavoury things.

In this case the reality is largely heterosexual men (as research in both the US and UK shows) - who certainly don't wish to dispense with their boabies lest it curtail their capacity for hot 'lesbian' action - gaining access to women's private spaces.

What a vision of a better tomorrow you possess.

Ps @GORDONSMITH7 should you ever go on said cruise, try and get one that stops off in New Orleans first. The jazz clubs there are really cool but the kids in the street are something else entirely - wee gadges that look like they'd be rapping over a beatbox in any other US city, giein it laldy with trombones and horns.

Not bad at all and she's a good chanter. But based on my - admittedly very limited - exposure, that's more like you get in the clubs.

The young team on the streets were kickin up a far more rambunctious din, and with rhythmic chanting and so on, which were novel to my uneducated ear. A modern youthful take as it were - not like this but not your kinda Miles Davis weirdness either.

You'd fucking love it.

I remember the days that the Greens were seen as a decent ‘protest’ against the big two.
If only the Monster Raving Loony Party had more candidates.
Not me, too old.

What a time to be alive.
you're not too old, maybe too loony? :coffee1:

Apparently so. Who'd have thunk it? Some absolute post-truth mayhem on this thread, like.

Martin I think that it would take me less time to convince you that Lenin and Trotsky were political giants than convince you that Davis and Coltrane were musical geniuses. So what!

Dont misunderstand me, I don't mind some avant garde jazz, its just the stuff I was talking about wasn't that.

That said, for me its background music, for reading or talking shite on here. I wouldn't sit and listen to it as the activity itself if you know what I mean.

Edit - i think we have discussed this befoee but if not, Keith Jarrett is a particular favourite for this. You'll be ahead of me as ever on matters musical but in the supremely unlikely chance I have stolen rhe march on you here, you should check out.

Nagoya concert a good starting place I think

Fair play to you Gordon, anyone who can sit through JAZZ deserves respect 😩🤣

Have you read anything I've posted?
I have and while I've answered many of your points it would appear you have no answer to the points I've raised.

It's the usual crock of shit labour supporters come out with when something they're responsible for a mess and habitual failure. It's always someone else's fault.

So see if you can manage to take in the facts and respond to them without greeting "It's someone else's fault".

Gordon Brown's government pass the Equally Act in 2010.

By design or otherwise it has allowed the trans lobby to get to the position they were a couple of years ago where trans people took on the rights of biological women.

The tories might have seen this happening and done something about it but they were distracted by shifting tax pounds into profit for friends, family, donors and publicans.

The Scottish Government and all other government departments were and are working within the guidance based on the and within the Equality Act. and produced by Bridget Phillipson and her predecessors as Secretary of State for Women & Equalities

Some folk the trans stuff has gone too far and win a High Court ruling that tips that guidance and the Act on its head.

The labour government do not accept it's ruling.

Instead of acting on that Court ruling the government has sat on its hands, appealing to the High Court because it doesn't take account of trans gender woman.

And you think this is all the fault of the Scottish Government 😆

Always someone else's fault!

And here's something else for you to think about!

By Keir Starmer's own reckoning the record of this labour government on it's multiple U-turns, the only conclusion is serial incompetence.

As previously noted the tories appear to have done this about this particular facet of it all

Does anyone know if this is in force / superseded / otherwise relevant or not relevant

Crock of shit. Charming.

Just out of interest, are you aware of a Supreme Court ruling recently? One that the Scottish Government lost. One that the Scottish Government has used as basis to change guidance in many areas but is choosing not to do it in relation to prisoners.

These are facts. Ruth McGuire, an SNP MSP said this in the Parliament:

"Knowing everything that we do about trauma, given the countless testimonies by women on this matter, including both privately and publicly by a number of his own party colleagues, does the first minister understand just how appalling the government's actions feel to many of us, and how difficult it is to reconcile the Scottish Government's words on the protection of single sex spaces for females with their actions on this matter?”

Does that not move you at all? Or do you see her as a 'crock of shit' too?

The most glaring mistake you and others make is, now listen carefully…..IF Scotland had voted for independence, we could then vote in the politicians we want to govern us.
Nobody else is offering us a vehicle out of the shit show we are in .
The SNP would be a dead duck if we had or ever do gain independence.

I just have. And in every post I've made. If an SNP MSP pointing the finger at the Scottish Government isn't enough for you I don't know what is. But one final go.

For Women Scotland is taking action against the Scottish Government, not the UK Government. This is because the Scottish Government has chosen in it's prison guidance to favour the rights of trans people. They have done so because they say they could breach the rights of trans prisoners. They could have chosen not to do this and face potential court action from trans prisoners. They didn't - they made that choice.

And no amount of flim flam or angry rhetoric from you changes that fact. You just need to own it.

Even more damnation for the scottish government, what about the rights of normal women prisoners . tbh I’m flabbergasted 😡
