Net Zero target

Despite French firm EDF’s assurances Sizewell would be a carbon copy of the ongoing Hinkley Point C project, and that major savings in time and cost would result accordingly, it has persuaded ministers that £8bn of public money is required up front merely to help it reach a Sizewell decision.

Meanwhile, French auditors advise against proceeding with Sizewell until Hinkley’s issues are resolved. With Hinkley over budget and EDF seeking additional funds, there are suspicions some "Sizewell" money is being redirected.

As Labour backtracks on binding green targets and prioritises economic growth, calls are growing for Ed Miliband to freeze further Sizewell funding until EDF commits.

Just been reading that. The fuckers have no sense of shame do they?

You really couldn't make this shit up.

I saw that. It seems every COP has something that flies in the face of err ... COP!

I also saw the SNP are dumping the greens Bute House agreement heating plans for new homes, the 2030 thing.

Is there any real point in this dodgy science?

If countries like US,China and India aren't doing it....what is the point?

At least we can save a few quid by selling our carbon offsets to countries that don't give 2 shits about it though. 🤣

We will be poorer,colder,more controlled.

I can assure you too that the same people making money from this scam, are the same people that made a bloody fortunate from CONVID.

I was reading earlier that the next COP meeting is in Brazil, where they've cut down 10s of thousands acres of natural rainforest.....to build a road to the venue.
Makes it easier to get there quicker from their private jets. 🤣

Thank Theresa May also, she served her Globalist purpose....She locked us into a Net Zero contract. 👍

I agree

Tories are taking a step back from the "Net Zero" commitment.

Kemi Badenoch is dropping her party’s commitment to reaching net zero by 2050, as she launches the Conservatives’ widest policy review in a generation. The Tory leader will give a speech on Tuesday in which she will argue that hitting Britain’s legally binding climate target is “impossible”, abandoning one of the most significant policies enacted by her recent predecessor Theresa May.

Strange things these wind farms when they seemingly produce too much power....

It's because we don't have significant energy storage capacity. If only we we something like vehicles that were powered by batteries that could store all that excess electricity.

Well surely the storage areas need built before the massive wind farm thingys take over.

Or what's the point of having wind farms?

You're making it sound as though the energy crisis policy hasn't been thought through!

They're actually doing something huge at Loch Ness. Basically, when there's lots of excess power as you describe and it's cheap, they're going to pump millions of gallons of water to another Loch up the hill. When there's a demand for power that water goes through a few turbines back into Loch Ness and, VOILA, electricity for the grid!

Goodness knows how long it will take to build but I suspect, even if they have to move Ben Nevis over a bit, it will be long before the nuclear crap at Hinckley.

Aye things tend to take many many years to build here.

Every other nation seems to be able to run new rail lines and build things in half the time it takes here.

Energy storage can be very expensive. If wind is part of a generation mix it's less of an issue as you can just turn it off when not needed.

This is from the link provided. How can this be viable?......

Today, wasted wind

£1,250,897 switching off wind turbines
£2,585,354 buying energy elsewhere -

That's 23,978 MWh of green electrons: enough to power Scotland for a day.

Wouldn't it be novel if instead of wasting it they used it to reduce customers bills...

Controversial I know

I'm struggling to understand how the fuckers get turned off because there's too much leccy.

And then we buy leccy from elsewhere.

You just know it'll be the wrong type of electricity...

You are probably correct. So enough leccy to work in basically every hossie in the UK gets stopped.

Then we buy enough to do said hossies?

Some fucker somewhere should write an idiots guide into how that works?

Or someone needs sacked and buried in an auld coal mine and the entrance blocked.

My guess is the issue might be that the cost of buying the wind generated electricity is higher therefore making it more cost effective to buy elsewhere?

So there's no point having it if it's cheaper to buy elsewhere?

Let me clear, I couldn't give a fuck about energy companies lining their pockets. The energy is there, use it to help those in need.

Awesome PR win + peoples lives made easier.

So it's private companies in the UK turning off windmills so we can't use it?

Sounds to me like private companies have taken the huff and won't give us leccy.

So we have to go to private firms abroad.

Or something like that.

There not turning it off to annoy us. It's a mix of demand, wholesale prices and so on.
Archie I'm being told by Scottish power that I get half price leccy between 11 and 4 at the weekend if I don't use too much leccy through the week.

So I need leccy. So why no supply the demand for folk?

Nothing to do with huffs. And it's not always abroad. Here's the current grid mix:

You can see how the wholesale price varies a lot.
