Little things that annoy you.

He was still only pointing out what he pointed out... and what he pointed out was simply a fact about clarkson. He probably hasnt watched the old goats latest tv whizz

My understanding of the whole palaver was that the change will not affect the majority of farmers, and estates worth up to £3,000,000 can still be passed on completely free of this tax, where the inheritance tax does apply, farmers will still pay 50% less than everyone else, that heirs can spread this 50% less than everyone else over 10yrs interest free.
Ok. 10% of 3000001 is 300k or 30k a year for ten years. Quite a lot when the average farm income is 72k according to google. (And 46k a few years before albeit with Covid).

It’s not like inheritance on private property - it’s a tremendously inefficient (thanks to cheap imports) business model with a vital national role. A bit like parts of the NHS dare I say it.

It’s really beyond me why they are doing this for a derisory take. I would not at all be surprised if they just got it wrong and won’t back down.

Incidentally, the subject matter experts in Starmer’s government ie DEFRA agree with the farmers that 2/3 will be affected. It’s Reeves bean counters coming out with the view it won’t affect most.

Please, i wouldnt dream of exalting myself to be on par with yourself. Its an aspiration likes.... we can all dream. Still, loving your barbed digs at auntie beeb, anything to smash the state i say👊

Seems fair

Seems fair

:gigglle:

Yes, the wanker has spent arount £500,000,000 to save paying into UK plc coffers

So what could these ways be? It would seem daft to me to meke them wealthier and rook everyone else, i agree.
Return to the period immediately post Brexit where working class wages were going up until the tories found other sources of cheap labour ?
The thumbs down on the other thread was your silly take (imho) and totally circular stance in reply to iirc bossies post. Sorry its a wee thumbs down, the bounce doesnae do big thumbs down.:coffee1:
Except there was nothing silly about it. I mean I’m not soliciting some more swinging hand bags but Bossie’s glib cliche was the only silly thing on it. The situations are not remotely comparable and patrician refusal to take non while people seriously, won’t change it.
:gigglle:👊 Fight the power.

Oooft, that socked it to Starmer and co. Bloody reds!.
Apparently you prefer wisecracks to considering whether Reeves got it wrong, on the basis of what Starmer’s own experts say. It’s an approach.

Youve still not said how we can tax them without all the palaver. You have tho' said a few things about what not to do.
We could just….duh duh…not tax them if it comes to it. They could make the same difference to the balance sheet by just skipping one years intake of additional civil service bloat. Or failing that they could talk to their own department that covers farming and understand how to actually set thresholds? Rocket science it is not.
If i had £23b, id happily give my share to the country i was born in and made my fortune in, and my off spring would still be in the top 1% of the 1% and be fabulously wealthy. So i would be just dandy about labour targeting me.
Yup, and if I’d be happy about labour targetting you too. Alas they seem disinterested in that kind of targetting, and indeed wedded to policies that help that class.
I didnt take the 2nd part of the first sentence as a jibe, i wasnae aware that they were targetting me. Can you show your working on that specific point you have made.
You are not being targeted for taxation, you sit within one of the groups they are there to benefit; that, and no doubt only that, you have in common with the 23billion pound men.
Fabulous strike through work again. mind, its no easy for the rest of us, perhaps the princes who stay in Bounce Towers. Its a tax avoidance loophole in all of the major farms in Britain, the super waelthy, glad they are trying to close, your correct though, as with all, the devil is in the detail.
again, that’s not what the experts say. It regular family farms, where good certainly does not grow out of the ground.
thats just a daft dig at labour😆
No it isn’t. It’s one of the biggest social justice / taxation problems we have. And that group of people certainly have their voice through the labour supporting press, though I daresay their number includes plenty selfish Tory types as well. However, as a class, the affluent metro dinky, is Labour’s Mondeo man. Pho shizzle my man.
Nae change there. Sooooo, how do we tax their extreme wealth?
As above, before we get anywhere near taxation I think the first priority is to organise the economy so they don’t hoover up the wealth to begin with. Something I think you agree with as an intent while not being so keen on the mechanisms.

I’m not a tax lawyer and am not going to attempt to grapple with how to tackle all the loopholes in tax law, mainly because I have no idea. In the context of what we are discussing here though, it’s not complicated: set the IHT threshold (much) higher.
Thats been going on since the first incarnation of inheritance tax was introduced over 50yrs ago. Thats why theres so many huge farms they were exempt!
Yup. And no one but you and Rachel Reeves is talking about huge farms here. The basis for people’s complaint is small family farms.

if there is no inheritance tax for this cohort of our country, then no one should pay it.

Wonder if a quick correction could solve it say £5,000,000 estates, or £7,500,000 or something. Everyone could get on board then?

I don't know what the number is but i'd have the experts on defra work it out not the spreadsheet boys at the treasury.

Tbh I think it should relate to the income of the farm not what the land is worth if you build flats on it or whatever. Fail to make that distinction and we risk losing farms or having them all sold to the likes of Dyson.

On IHT I actually don't think most people should pay it. If you're the Earl of wherever and passing on a chunk of central London, aye fair enough. Or if you are James Dyson. But for the overwhelming majority then no it shouldn't exist. Just another way to nail contributors while the free riders make hay.

If somebody builds up, say, a trades business bringing in a few hundred grand a year I absolutely think they should be able to turn that over to their kids without the government taking its cut. Those kids can then sell up, and pay tax on the gains, or take over the business and pay tax on their earnings while their employees do also.

That's for the good of the country as well as the individuals concerned. Breaking small businesses by demanding a tax take before any value has been realised with which to pay it...it's just more destruction of what funds our country.

Sorry but I can't take that buffoon Clarkson seriously. Whinging about the govt while thousands of pensioners can't afford their heating bills. He can get to Falkirk as far as I'm concerned as he's not doubt has accountants who find many ways of avoiding tax. Sell one of your many cars Jeremy. My heart bleeds for you. Time for the posh boys to be squeezed instead of the poor being crushed by austerity.

It's the government that he is complaining about, not Clarkson, that has screwed pensioners in respect of heating bills

Quite right. One of the most arrogant pricks to appear on tv screens ever. His popularity speaks volumes about the Brits.

People who take forever getting on a bus because…..

They’re in conversation on their phone.

Phone isn’t ready properly for Apple Pay

Phone’s not charged and they ask if they can charge it on the feckin bus! WTAF?

I actually miss paying with cash, it was quick and it was easy.

Just goes to prove technology isn’t always a good thing!

One of my pet hates too. You know, roughly, when the bus will arrive so why not have the method of payment ready. No problems with tourists asking the bus driver as I do that myself abroad. Other pet hate on the bus is long telephone conversations when they put it on speaker so you get doubly annoyed. Fine If I ve got my headphones but soooo irritating if I haven't. The decent thing to do is say I'll call back when I'm off the bus. Folk used to get embarrassed talking on the phone on the bus but now seems habitual to a lot of folk. I really don't want to hear other folks conversations for 30 mins. Grrr😠

People dicking around, in general, but people dicking about in supermarkets specifically. I do most of our food shopping weekly. Make a list of what I need. Go round supermarket and get each item on said list. What I don't do is stand in front of one product shelf, pick up each one individually, examine it, put back on shelf and repeat. 🤬

My missus does this and it drives me crackers. It’s quite animalistic actually, she scrutinises things from all angles, paws it…I’m sure I’ve caught her sniffing it at times. A bit much for a can of baked beans.

Choosing meat is the fucking worst; she’s a veggie in denial and rakes through whole cabinets for pieces that least resemble something that came from an animal; that’s got fat on it, that’s got a vein on it, what’s that bit etc.

Oh My God Omg GIF by CBC

I was at the train station the other day and witnessed perhaps the finest take on the wifey digging in her handbag at till / to pay for bus act, that I’ve ever seen.

This wifey must have had her ticket on her phone…and was stood at the scanner for ages faffing with it. These things can be a pain granted, but she wasn’t trying to scan it to no effect, she was stood pecking away on her phone without presenting it to the scanner. And really, for fucking ages with a big scrum of queue backed up behind her.

I eventually tail gated somebody going through the wide gates for luggage / wheelchairs etc, and was on my way. She was still there until I eventually got out of sight of her. Apparently no thought given to just stepping aside till she found what she was looking for on her phone.

I mean this felt like it was tipping into minutes, which obviously doesn’t sound long in one sense, but is a bloody long time in the reality of that situation.

This, and fucking pensioners driving Nissan Micras/Notes, is why you’re not allowed to carry a gun in this country

Im used to it from my laddie playing basketball. If you think of it like shinpads for your gob but I agree it looks naff. He's some player btw.

Pet hate for me assoles who dont stop at zebra crossings, particularly kirkcaldy retail park outside boots the chemist 😡
I give them various responses, shrug shoulders and hands in the air as they pass is the main one 😜

And another thing…..

Cyclists generally don’t bother me. I’ve been out on my bike on the roads and can appreciate the hazards.
However, out here in West Lothian, we have these wankers who are pedalling along holding up traffic WHEN THERE’S A FUCKING CYCLE TRACK RUNNING ALONGSIDE THE MAIN FUCKING ROAD. Those counts should be mown down without legal repercussions.

Cavity instead of filling.
People who say "absolutely" when they agree with something
Even a thing here in Holland. In my old cricket team, we had a guy called Ruud (pron. 'rewt' modelled on newt). He was a lawyer or court worker or summat and he akways said 'Absoluut' if he agreed wi ye.

Forever now known (RIP) as Ruud Absoluut!

Used to hear Americanisms when I worked for a now defunct toy store. Brainstorming, thinking out of the box and speed eating just a few of the utter bollocks that was thrown about then. Ridiculously funny now in hindsight.
Speed eating?!! As in, it means something other than scranning food quickly?

“Blue sky thinking” and “Going the whole nine yards” were another couple of oft-used phrases by American oil companies back in my offshore days.

You were seen as a softie for taking more than 15 mins for breaks meaning guzzling hot tea and eating very quickly. Nonsense that I'm sure fucked up many a managers health.

I can appreciate that. Was the same in my job. You had to almost inhale your food and drink during the piece break because, as sure as shite’s broon, the moment you sat down to eat the radio would go. I’m retired 9 years and I still shovel my grub down in seconds. Drives the missus mad when we’re out for a meal and I’ve finished before she’s finished shaking the salt and pepper 🤣

That took me back. Sitting in conference calls between offshore and the office, absolutely cringing at how enthusiastically the different supervisors tried to outdo each other by spouting this pish to show how "passionate" and "driven" they were about "delivering" the company's goals.

The type that would only talk about work on nights out. The first few years nights out were fantastic but the more folk got sucked into doing more and more the joy went out of them. My leaving do mind you was a blast with 60% of the staff there. Didn't realise I was so popular.

Absolutely spot on mate. I could have written that word for word.

In all the factory electronics jobs I’ve had ( 7) only one had a management team who actually cared about it’s workforce and for the life of me I can’t remember it’s name 😩
It was in hillend industrial estate and had an orange roof , was taken over by cemtron and moved to a different factory, went downhill after that 😡

I get pissed off with the halfwits that park at the side of the road especially if its dark facing oncoming traffic with their headlights on blinding the shit out of other drivers.... so if you are guilty of that then have a bit consideration for other drivers and turn your fucking lights off
Aye. That’s another bugbear of mine. It’s also illegal.
