Israel

Right ok chief, you've got me today. I'm at my desk rather than splayed on my couch like Johnny Vegas on my phone. I'll put a bit of time in and we can move right on.

Again, what is your complaint? When you suggested it was unclear I clarified. Would that you would do likewise with your grand statements which you rarely explain.
Right, please can you let this one go. I am not complaining. The wee thing I said was, that when you gave your first ever confirmation of your stance on the go/no go for the US, you caveated it by saying your previous on-the-fence statements should have conveyed that stance already. I was saying it did not. But no biggie man, none at all. Was good just to get your out-in-the-clear stance.

You've reached new heights here with your preference for being nuked.
This one is more about you than you realise.

I framed Iran in terms of them nuking us because that's how you have been framing their threat for posts upon posts now. Since I'm at my desk, I've taken the chance to have a peek back through and retrieve some of those posts, in case you wanted to disagree:

It was you that said it dude. Not for the first time it seems there was nothing behind the statement. You keep chortling, it seems to be a go to.

It's pretty laughable in itself, but also not really funny. You're too smart to be following student dafties and media poppets and left unable to explain yourself once their slogans have run out. But social approval is I guess a powerful incentive.

Honestly man I know this patronising stuff is just your bag, you enjoy it, you get a buzz, but maybe, honestly, try laying off it for a while. Having folk exasperate in convo with you isn't really conducive to good debate. I know I do tongue-in-cheek a lot, but I don't believe that jabs at folk in the same way this angle does.

Anyway, as much as I thought this was obvious and you were trolling, you do seem to be insistent, so lets do it - my statement about deciding that if leaving Iran alone would mean they nuke us down the line, and accepting that as a result of not intervening, related purely to Iran and the choices in front of us right now.

You reading that, then attempting some god-awful 'gotcha' about ha, so you'd let Hitler win! screams far more of daft student politics than what I've said dude. I mean really? I put it down to your dental anaesthetic last night if I'm honest, hence my chuckling.

A small curiosity in the grand scheme of things.
“Ex pats” living in Dubai, who let’s have it about 98% are there to escape TAXES in their “Great Britain”
Sun? Nah you can get that mostly anywhere, but they are not tax free states.
So my point is “are they getting repatriated by us the tax payers, because they fecked off to escape paying taxes???
Sick of reading rich cvnts complaining the UK not doing enough to help them! Wow, was it not their choice to dodge taxes in the UK?
Then Lord over the plebs telling us how utterly amazing Dubai is!
Folk who have been sent over from their work, people on holiday who have had just incredibly bad luck then yeah, help them.
But why should our tax be used to aid people who left so as to not pay tax and now expect that tax to be used on them 🤷‍♂️
Do i have a point?

Is not as if you have the freedom to be as you want to be and do as you please! I mean the religious police ffs.
They could easily pay the upgraded fare for a chartered flight divided amidst them all and charged by the govt as they are all sooo much better off than yow!

If I am to take that as something other than you preferring nuclear annihilation to fighting Iran, please do explain what that is. And if you wouldn't fight even against that, why would you fight anyone else?

If you just said something ill thought through, fine. Just say so and we can move on. But this incredibly odd statement is what I have been trying to get you to clarify.

And this clarifies little. You are still saying you would rather be nuked than fight them. So as above: if you wouldn't pick up arms against that, why would you against anything else ?

My aim is not to patronise, I'm trying to prompt you into backing your arguments. You throw stuff out about things that will or won't happen but never seem able to explain why you think these things. That smacks of towing to right on opinion without having reasoning of your own. If I am wrong I am happy to apologise but it would help if you would explain yourself.

Tbh this forum is a pretty frustrating place nowadays - conspiracy theory, racism, fake news, know nothingism and fantasy abound. It's pretty rancid and a clear product of our times, because it certainly never used to be that way. Ryan's posting of conspiracy guff used to be an anomaly, for instance. You are the very least of it KiGers but if anything that makes it even more frustrating when you can't or won't back your argument.

See also your rushing into action to cast aspersions on the knifeman thread while, as is universally the case with the nothing to see here crowd, ignoring obsessive posting of fake news about the jews in respect of this war. Its all so very reminiscent of the dominant race baiting cult of our day.

So many go along to get along which has them falling into line behind idiots and wrongs uns. It was ever thus but I expect more from you KiGers.

I am totally onboard with the sentiment but I suppose if we had to apply a political test for eligibility for repatriation from war zones that would also be pretty suspect.

Eegie I am talking about this situation, and this situation alone, as I'm experiencing it right now. It is you who wants to ask for my thoughts on situations I am not in, never have been in, and never will be in. It'd be pointless guesswork, and for what? Why do you ask this?

Yes frustration abounds from many it seems. Despite my pointing out there, I'm not too bad; I'm enjoying kitchen gadgets the now :yayyy:

I'm done with this KiGers. If you think nuclear annihilation is not worth fighting but other things are, and if you won't or can't explain that somewhat queer logic...well, I refer to my previous post.

Well I'm not sorry, but yeah lets move on chief. We've fair OT'd this thread.

I have a feeling that the tax dodgers you talk about are being repatriated at their own cost.

Yeah I'm still a bit make sure everyone else who wants to be out gets out first!

Oh aye. And have the police checking from criminals coming in and HMRC checking their tax affairs are up-to-date.

Of course I wouldn’t go and live in Iran. It’s getting bombed to fuck 🥲
I wouldn’t want to stay in any of the places you mention. Do you have any other options on they dates.
Whatever. Way to evade the actual point, which of course you’d struggle to refute.
If the only way to stop people doing evil things to us, is to do evil things to them; then it’s not worth it.
On a serious note though. I do think, if the Iranians are wanting to go nuclear and take us out sometime in the future, then aye I'd croak it maybe a few years earlier than if we do what we're doing; but I'd croak it with a clear conscience. I think I'm up for that more.

How can we preach about their wickedness yet commit wicked acts ourselves?

Might change my mind the morn right enough..!
Jesus fucking Christ. Spoken like a true cosseted westerner. The only reason you can even make that claim is because you know fine well you’re in no danger whatsoever.

I submit you’d change your mind pretty fucking rapidly if, say, the French suddenly declared that their stated aim was to wipe the British out — not govern us, but exterminate us.

It’s the point I keep making re: Israel. Walk in their shoes for 50 years and see how fucking high-minded you’re feeling.

It’d be funny if it wasn’t so pathetic.

Sorry you feel that way Aggie! You are of course correct, if things were different, I'd likely feel different. It's a point indeed.

FFS, Aye ok, I would rather stay in USA than Iran, but that dosent mean I want to see Iranians killed.
I would absolutely hate Trump to be my president. I would be ashamed if my countries armed forces were blowing up ships in international waters for no good reason.

Like other countries in the region the modern state was created by the LoN after the caliphate collapsed. In common with Israel it was an exception being a non Muslim state, in this case a Christian one. Like Israel it was a relative beacon of liberal modernity and Beirut was hailed as the Paris of the middle East (back when that was a compliment).

But creeping away in the background demographics were a changing, and the Islamic population share kept a rising. No problem thought the Lebanese, our democracy can accommodate lovely multi culturalism - indeed theirs was designed specifically for the purpose - and it's the Christian thing to do. But those numbers kept growing, and not everyone felt the same way. And parallel institutions sprang up, and no go zones. And then Palestinians flooded in and the Iranians got to stoking away. And the killings started. And positions hardened. And everyone retreated into their tribes.

Then the balloon went up, 150k people were killed, the Christians fled in large number and are now a minority, in the country - deposed like every other non Muslim community in the region. And Lebanon is now your typical regional basket case.
post ottoman empire the maronite patriach successfully advocated for an expanded territory which would later become lebanon under the French mandate - the maronites like the shia were both converted from pagans by greeks (the former) and fatimids (the latter) alike gradually over a very long time - their genetic makeup shows they are both indigenous to the area (levantine) - they are the same people - so when you say that Lebanon was a Christian country that's not really the full story and it was only thus after being created as such by the French. History did not start in the 1920s - the origins of your balloon (the civil war of the 70s and 80s) are complex but its not true to say the maronites were happy clappy liberal multi-culturalists - you could say their aim to cling onto the power despite demographic change was a big part of the problem - you're right there was wider geo-political drivers as well - notably from Syria and Israel - sectarianism was built into the creation of the country in 1943. with history simplified like above it'll likely remain so - compare sectarian divide in lebanon with the relative unity between palestinian christians and muslims next door - that tells the story of different geo=political dynamics and points to the oversimplification of sectarian analysis.

I don't know how people who make and those who drop these weapons to their target sleep at night. I understand that there are degrees of complicity that draw us all in indirectly financially and politically but to actually work on something designed to do this to humans and be able to mentally be ok with it? As for the sick fucks who actually design them..

Israel used weapons in Gaza that made thousands of Palestinians evaporate

Makes me wonder what's the point in the laws behind warfare

Thermobaric weapons are horrible. (All are tbf, but some just hit different)

Applicability of International Law: While not banned, their use is still subject to the laws of war, meaning they cannot be used in a manner that indiscriminately harms civilians (violating the principle of distinction) or causes excessive civilian damage compared to the military advantage (violating the principle of proportionality).

Still struggle to get my head around how obliterating thousands of civilians doesn't break those rules.

Here we go.
“Meanwhile, the second evacuation flight to the UK from the Middle East landed at Gatwick today.

The repatriations have raised questions about who is responsible for bringing travellers home and paying for the costs.

Most countries in Europe, including the UK, will charge travellers for a seat on the repatriation flights. ”

Any yous watched the protest today on't telly about the grauniad being demonstrated against for anti semitism?

This is the article that has brought this about.....

This article was amended on 17 March 2026. A reference to the arrival of Gail’s feeling like “an act of heavy-handed high street aggression” has been repositioned to clarify it meant to refer to the described fears about the chain’s impact on small traders. Also, a comment contrasting activism that is capable of influencing global events with “small acts of petty symbolism”, which was not intended to minimise local vandalism but rather to suggest its misdirected futility, has been removed to avoid misunderstanding.

I havent seen the protest but just read the article and to me it seems fairly inconsequential in the original or edit, folk seem touchy these days - i presume this is a bigger deal than the Iran war. Maybe if it was greggs vs harry gow I'd give two fucks?

Well there was plenty comment in different outlets in Google news.

So it obviously bothers some folk.

And I think businesses being attacked affects the owners of said businesses and no doubt some folk will take issue with it.

If someone attacked Fergies I'm sure me, Billy and Stu would be unhappy.

I'm no sure who or what harry gows is but if you feel like protesting carry on gadgie.

When you are working on site on cauld and miserable Gregg's is a god send.

Cheap and cheerful.

A mince pie on a buttered roll with some brown sauce and a nice cup of Bruce Lee.

And if required a vanilla slice or a Belgian bun.

Most Gregg's open at 6.30 now so it's also good for grabbing a cup of tea and a fruit scone before work.

If agree that Baynes and Baines arenfar superior to Gregg's but they dont have enough outlets.

And Fergies kicks the lot of them in the hee haws.

Cinders is just back from Fergies with a bag of crispy rolls and they are still hot.

Barry fir yir naggins.

Been reading about Israel and Trump today.

Trump has no control of them *&*^.

Everyone Trump planned to negotiate with, got taken out by Israel, when someone else was recommended as possibly being open to talks... Assassinated by Israel.

He's been tricked into this, tricked into something much bigger than he planned for.

Of course he has. Israel has been trying for 40 years to persuade the usa to attack iran but all previous presidents realised it was lunacy. Enter the clown and here we are. Nobody is winning anything in this war but its consequences could last for years.

But you can bet your bottom dollar US firms will benefit from restoring much of the Middle East’s oil and gas infrastructure - nobody does it better.

Got there perfect president in the door of the white house, a radical nut job who even has his people harassing ICC judges who want Isreal held to account. Extreme Nationlists or Patriots as they try to portray themselves. Probably end up in a recession here in the UK cause of the nutjob, worst of all the world is basically afraid to say anything, leaders just remaining silent.

Maybe Israel didn't have photos of other presidents in compromising situations 🙂

As usual in any war the us has been involved in my time its all about money, power and influence. This utter bullshit about democracy is the biggest smokescreen ever. Look at the state of libya, iraq, afghanistan. Funny how they dont give a shit about them now. Too many gullible folk who are conned into believing their is a higher purpose to this nonsensical war. Thats the saddest part that any level of critical thinking would have seen through it. Cest la vie. Thousands will continue to die and the world carries on as if its normal. Unreal

Tucker Carlson is a blowhard fool of a man who has historically said many many stupid things simply to line his own pockets.
But he comes across measured and intelligent here, which makes me wonder if he actually has a soul after all.

Israel have invaded and are occupying Lebanon, apparently with plans to remain there for the long term:

This is to be condemned just as much as the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Canada has said so:

Why does the international community largely remain silent on this? We seem to have stuck a sentence in this joint statement, and thats about it:

Where's the sanctions?
