Full Time: Hibs 2 v 3 KAAA Gent

That ones on Gray. His tactics were rank rotten. Sitting back letting them have the ball and building from the back. On the rare occasion we got up and pressed them they were wobbling.....Then he brings on Megwa and its Legia Warsaw all over again

Rinse and repeat one year on.

Defensive naivety costs Hibs yet again.
Somehow getting to 2-1 up with 8 minutes to go, then concede straight from a needlessly given away corner,
then caught on the counter attack right at the end.
A huge effort in the second half but we were just not good enough at the end of the day.
Gent were a competent team, very good on the counter attack, but they were nothing special.
Over the two legs though they were better than Hibs and deserved to progress.

Btw we have absolutely nothing in the last third.....zero.
Take Martin Boyle out of that forward area and we pose no threat whatsoever.
Both goals coming from defenders says it all...and they were our two best players on the night.

Very disappointing but not unexpected.

The other downside is another team in the City will be thinking they are the best in Edinburgh if not Scotland.

I fucking hate them as much as the next Hibby, but they're mentality is night and day compared to ours. Away from home, down to ten men and one penalty away from being knocked out... And they still find a way to win.

We're at home, big crowd, 2-1 up with about 15 minutes left... And we still find a way to lose.

What’s the alternative? Suto? Klidje? Boyle? Shite options, that’s not the managers fault. No defending Gray at all here, but fuck me Malky is getting away with it big time, hopeless at building a squad.
Its someones fault though Zab.

They've had about 5 windows

They kept concentrating on winning the game whilst we reverted to school boy shit again, thats a better class of player.

We went from letting the game play itself, to playing on the front foot, to not really playing.

It's management and control. We play that game on the front foot from the get go, they don't get themselves into the game.
They had nothing to offer once we started playing.
We played for 30 minutes and scored 3 goals. Not sure why 1 was disallowed, but there was enough about it that in a VAR free world, we get that goal.

They never won that corner because they were better that us, they won that corner cause we bottled it.
They never scored the winner because they were better than us, they scored because Megwa bottled it.

That's the truth of it.

Exactly……………….why can’t the type set change ?,……………..it’s a style of management needs to change, not necessarily the Manager.

We let them into the game again.

That's not an ability issue. That's a mentality issue.
You can see the switch when it flips.

When you go from, let's go and win this game. To let's try not to lose this game, you will inevitably fail.
That's Dave, all over. Has been for over a year now, and it's bites him in the arse 100% of the time.

Is mentality not part of your abilities ? there is very few in this current Hibs team that regularly display decent passing ability or shooting accuracy!

You're deluded if you think they'll finish bottom 6.

They're not managing Europe every week until Christmas and possibly beyond, you don't need a whole lot of points to get into that middle group and the league all at once.

Nobody does.
They'll turn up for the second half of the season, but the first half is going to be hard on them.
We'd be bottom 6 in Europe too.

Nah, a different manager keeps that team ahead. A different manager has those players ready for when they get ahead.

They do have a few good players, but I don't think they're a better side than us. And if they are, it's not by much.
Hearts would've beaten them. Motherwell might've because they'd have played on the front foot for 90 minutes.

Hibs should've and threw it away. If they were outright better than us I wouldn't argue, I just don't see it. There's no gulf there.

The players should know what to do ffs If they cannot handle the concentration levels for a full 90+mins and the opposition can, i would put it on the players. We will find out soon enough as I reckon David will be replaced and we should see the team concentrating for the whole match.

They do know what to do, but they're drilled and told to hang on instead of keep at it. And I think that makes a world of difference.

All 3 teams we played last season qualifying were better sides than us. I think the difference in quality was much more evident last time round. But we played up to it. We could've put a stamp on this game. I'm so disappointed.

Spot on. We will play many better sides than Gent at ER this season. We won't play many better coached teams though. That Gent side was well structured and drilled. Player for player though I wasn't hugely impressed with them.

A. Fuckin. Huge. Missed. Opportunity.

Yet again.

The first half we were far too passive and slow. Gent could have scored a few. Lowe missed a superb opportunity but he looks like he'll miss a lot of opportunities. Criminal though in such a huge game we were left with a young raw laddie as our only up top forward option.

Second half we got the reaction to being behind. Though after we equalised we then bizzarely lost our way when we had them on the rope? We went back to being quite passive. Nonetheless we scored a cracking goal from Passlack. And then again played like we just wanted to manage the game out.... Inevitably because we are really not good enough we concede the equaliser from giving away an unnecessary corner. Then we brutally concede the game in injury time through a mistake from Megwa.

Gent for me didn't win the game tonight - We lost it. I thought we were poor overall. We create very little and have little obvious identity. We don't look a well coached team and are pretty powderpuff up top.

No time though to feel sorry for ourselves. Dundee will not be easy on Sunday and then the derby, us with a cautious coach up against a very attacking minded coach.

I have my fears and hope to fuck I'm wrong.

In the meantime Hibs recruitment can we have a proper fuckin striker that's not just learning his trade?

Boyle started
Boyle started on the right and granted was excellent. I think the point is, who is our centre forward, should it be Low? No Elding tonight which would have been the obvious choice but Gray has consistently stuck with Low this season regardless, and he looks nowhere near good enough. So to Zab’s point, what’s the alternative? Because we seem to get the ball forward enough and then do very little with it

I'd love you to be right but they're well ahead of us with a far better coach. They've nunbers in their squad with more coming in. They're in a better place squad wise than two years ago or where Aberdeen were when they got in the conf league.

Agreed. Motherwell and the Gunts don't lose to them.

Though the Huns would.

Agree. But I still think it's a big ask. You can see a clear difference even in the bigots when they get out out (current sides exempt cause they're fucking hopeless too)

In fact, you know what, this leagues shite. They might.

At this moment in time, your gut is very much correct.

I was working so didn't see any of it but reading the comments it's pretty much a rinse and fkn repeat job.
Happens too often to be a coincidence.
