Transport minister on GMB this morning discussing pot holes and explained the billions being made available for general road upkeep. The talk was mainly about pot holes but he made clear this money was for all road work and local councils would be responsible for it's allocation. The councils will need to provide monthly reports showing how much has been spent and what in particular it has been spent on so they will be accountable to the electorate.
What they should be accountable for is who gets the contracts, who inspects and passes the work, who is allowed to continue providing below standard work, connections between councillors and contractors, the direction that the gravy train is flowing in.
As a driver this problem/scandal is (literally) hammered home to me every single day of the year. I'm sure my hair loss is partly due to the number of times my head hits the headlining of my car on a daily basis.
