When a genre peaks, that's when the parodies and satires of the genre start to take over.I think superhero movies are about to go the way of the western in the 70s. They're definitely past their peak. At work the super nerds on my team who talked about Marvel movies constantly have been dodging the latest releases and getting fatigued with it.
Even my kid who is Spiderman obsessed can't be arsed any of the other stuff lately.
My bugbear with movies of late is that the sheer length is getting out of hand. Noticed that a new Scorsese is coming out that looks very interesting (read the book it's based on) -- it's 3.5hrs long.Cinema is shite but I don’t think it’s tvs fault other than most films seem so simplistic now compared to what you can do in long form. But mostly it’s this superhero pish.
Disagree strongly, and not just on social media. I appreciate all the advantages -- I can talk to my dad in Houston any time, anywhere. However, I think it has also "speeded up" life in general needlessly. Email has lowered the bar for communication at work to a ridiculous level, both in terms of spam, and also in terms of intra-colleague. I'm sure if I had to write a memo, or get up and go two floors up or whatever to talk to them, I'd ask myself the question "is this necessary?" considerably more often. Everything is so "instant", overall -- I do think there's some value in having to wait for things sometimes. The internet has changed the world generally for the better.
Well one of the problems is they often do these things so they are unfinished so if successful, a follow on series can be made. They rarely get the timing right for when the networks are going to cancel the show so you get all these botch jobs.Tv series are much more complex now; I think that’s probably the issue with cinema now - you can’t get the complex storyline into a two hour film in the same way you can put 10 hour episodes together with various themes and strands running through them.
In the tv series though you often get 8 belter episodes and then a rushed contrived episode at the end. The finale probably needs to be done over two or three episodes which makes it a long film really.

How are you meant to have a civilised (and of course, highly-alcoholic!) beer beforehand these days?!! I went to see Blade Runner 2045, and I was fucking bursting an hour before the end -- I hate missing even a few minutes.
Movies used to be tighter, tauter affairs. Editing seems to me to have got progressively more self-indulgent.

It's worth sticking with. Only 8 episodes per season so doesn't start to drag. I like the whole conceit and it's pretty funny too. When a genre peaks, that's when the parodies and satires of the genre start to take over.
Just watched (on the back of a Bounce tv thread comment) first ep of The Boys, which seems ok but is definitely a sign of the way things are going, with a world of superheros for sale, working for large adventure capitalist-driven companies who seem to be working with organised crime behind the scenes.
Will do the Hibs thing and persevere. For now....

America is no longer the worlds policeman, capitalism is crumbling. Lots of folk have been desperately wishing for this day. Let’s be happy for them, if we need cheering up?The world is a depressing melange of darkness and horror intertwined with numbing tediousness and mediocre experience.
Viewing the status of humanity there is little to hope for and the existence of such like Mrs Brown's Boys and that the hideousness of films such as Zoolander could be permitted to exist proves the point.
Beer though. Beer can stay.
Not just beer, I have 60 litres of home distilled Palinka........ Guaranteed to not make you blind.America is no longer the worlds policeman, capitalism is crumbling. Lots of folk have been desperately wishing for this day. Let’s be happy for them, if we need cheering up?
And there’s beer.
There are so many films pushed out these days that it's no wonder that many are pretty average (or crap). Back in the day your local cinema showed two films (one would be a B movie - low budget) for the whole week. If you wanted to go twice in a week you had to choose a different cinema chain.I meant to say picking up on your point @hibadelic I think tv is much better now. There were good series back in the day but boy was there so much pish an aw. There’s even more pish now but sheer volume plus streaming gives better options. However I do think we lose something culturally by everybody doing their own thing. No more ‘who shot JR?’ moments which were small but important social glue.

I remember that well!Phones. We've gone from sitting next to a plugged in, centre dial monstrosity, where you sometimes had to wait to use it because somebody else was on the party line, to having the world in your pocket.
Music delivery: Obviously had a few mono and stereo systems growing up. Even though I worked in a recording studio I've never been a music quality snob. For my needs Spotify blows anything I ever had out the water. No more scratches, clicks, jumps and sticks. Remember putting pennies on the needle arm to gouge through the sticky bits? Fuck that!![]()
Last film I remember with an interval was Avatar. Downside was that I was stuck in the cinema even longer watching that overblown video game trailer. The last film I went to se at the cinema was Oppenheimer which was 3 hours long and it felt like it.
It was a really good well made film, but I thought it was never going to end.
I remember about 40 years ago going to see Ghandi when it came out and there was an interval during it. Whatever happened to intervals during films ?
I stopped going to the pictures years ago as I couldn't stay awake. Even for the kids films I'd put a daughter either side of me and told them to nudge me if I started snoring.

Daytime radio, well actually radio in general. I don't like radio 1not since I was 18 anyway with DLT, Kid Jensen, John Peel etc.I think superhero movies are about to go the way of the western in the 70s. They're definitely past their peak. Guy I work with mum is from very rural Ireland and a very traditional cook, after he was married they were invited for dinner and told it was sweet and sour chicken,he was surprised at his auld maw being adventurous,so he sat down to a plate of sweet and sour chicken with tatties cabbage and Brussel sprouts@Stu The boiling everything thing resonates so much. My dear old mum used to do that with everything. She also tried to be experimental without quite getting it.
Spag bol was mince with spaghetti- and that was it's only difference from mince and tatties. Chilli con carne was the same mince with rice and kidney beans lol
I knew lots of London bus drivers who jacked it in when the clippies disappeared including a brother in law. They didn't take to driving and issuing tickets and handing out change. Not so bad once they introduced flat fares. As a nipper I used to dodge fares like a rite of passage (think getting a lift over at a match). As an ex smoker I still go upstairs, out of habit, when I travel by bus even though I stopped smoking 37 years ago! Some would say the bus.But I miss the bus conductor. My dad was a bus conductor at one point in my life. But I'm not missing smoking on the bus.

Can't find a radio station with proper djs that I like.
Greatest hits radio play the same music over and over again. Absolute radio play the same songs every day. Radio 2 isn't too bad until Jeremy Vine comes on with that annoying voice of his. Gone are the days of Radio Caroline. Billy Sloane and Grant Stott do good shows on radio Scotland though but in general radio shows and djs are just playlists pumped out to nationwide stations.

My mum was one of the worst cooks I've ever known. Think Wendy Craig in butterflies. She didn't enjoy cooking either so decided to get a pressure cooker to save her time and effort. Didn't think our meals could get worse but she managed it.@Stu The boiling everything thing resonates so much. My dear old mum used to do that with everything. Encyclopaedia Brittanica posts on the Bounce. I only have 1 person blocked so he must still post going by the amount of posts that make nae sense tae me.Wiki is way better than Encyclopaedia Brittanica all those massive books taking up shelf space.
Ah pressure cookers. That 70s / 80s destroyer of food! That again, resonates big time with me!My mum was one of the worst cooks I've ever known. Think Wendy Craig in butterflies. Kaolin poultice Moaty used to relieve pain and draw out pus - I remember this well but I've been around longer than yourself.Probably.I seem to remember kaline poultice but that might be a false memory thing.
