How did we set up formation wise?
3 - 4- 3, I think.
Gillie in the middle of the back three, and what a player this laddie is, although a bit small for a central defender at the moment. Then Shanklnd went off injured and McSporran came more to the fore and he is also a good defender.
Middle 4 well marshalled by stand-in skipper McDonald and he was the beating heart of the team last night. No' scared to take anyone on and then has the ability to pick the right pass, as he did many times. But he was backed up by Burns and Downie, and they worked hard to get right into the game as Dundee United had the better of the first 15 minutes. Up front, the other MacDonald led the line very well, and was supplied with good crosses from Calder who is fast, and I mean very fast. Then there was McMurdo and this laddie must have had his best game for the youngsters last night. Although, to be honest, I could not have told you he had scored a hat trick last night as a couple of the goals were lightning fast, but even then I couldn't make out what the guy was saying over the tannoy. And then Dino Cleland was added into the mix. I had not realised he was just returning from injury, but the way he took his goal you would never have guessed he had been out of the team. he scored a bottom-corner cracker. The United coaches then made a couple of changes and their laddies came more into the game, scoring a goal that seemed a mirror image of Hibs' first goal. Among the coaches were Alex Cleland and Dave Bowman, who still looks as if he could walk onto a park and continue to kick everybody. But then Darren and Boozy and Gareth brought on a couple of 15- or 16-year olds for their debut in the team, and neither laddie looked out of place, even being so young.
A smashing game to watch and a terrific result given that the young Hibees had several first-team players out through injury.
My wife thinks she saw something this eftie saying the final would be played at Airdrie - but she does not want to be held to that.
I reiterate - get yersel along to the Final. These laddies deserve all the encouragement they can get.
