Vehicle safety recall notices

Got one today for my 19 year old fairly clapt out Vauxhall Vectra.
Driver side airbag needs to be replaced for "safety" reasons and they offer a free replacement at the nearest Vauxhall dealer which is
miles away at Sighthill. Apparent there have been cases worldwide of the airbags rupturing in a crash causing serious injury, so this is a worldwide recall thing.

I'm trying to get another car anyway, should I really bother with this ?
Anyone else had these recall notices ?
I've had my car for 9 years, and only use it for very short journeys.

Interested to hear thoughts from anyone in the know about these things.

Wild that it's taken so long to find defective bags.
Never considered that they would be time specific as well as single use.

If you're getting a new car and you're going to trade the Vectra at the same time, I wouldn't bother. The dealer should get the recall sorted out. If they don't scrap.

But if you're selling it to someone else or passing it on, I'd get it the recall carried out. No guarantee a new owner will look for recalls. (Technically on them, but I'd feel better doing it)

Even on one of your very short journeys you could be involved in an accident so if it was me I'd be getting it sorted out straight away. Why drive around knowing there's something defective in your car which could cause you a serious injury.

Aye, this too actually if you're still gonna be using it 🫣

I got one for my car, booked it in at Seafield, the other side of toon from me, and they couldnae give me a courtesy car. I didnae leave it. Traded it in a week later.

The vectra is by far the shittest car I've ever had. I had a sensor go every other week then one day it broke down outside the omni centre and I had to turn it over on the starter motor just to get it up the hill before free wheeling round the back of the omni where I then called the scrappy in loanhead to come and collect it..

They are a fucking joke. We had 3 recalls on our old Kia, no courtesy car offered for any of them. For the 3rd one I got out to Broxburn and they said come back in 3 hours. Returned in 3 hours “oh we didn’t actually have the part but we’ve booked you back in for next week” 😳🤯 Traded the car in the next day for something new

Brutal Kev. I went over the road tae look at other cars that day, spotted 1 that looked promising. Went tae Vertu at Newbridge next day and got over grand more in a trade-in than Clark, and a brand new car.

I am an ex mechanic and recovery dude. Both from a legal standpoint and a moral one your question can only be answered with get it fixed. If you didnt want to get it done and just wanted it sold i would then make a pretty low offer on the car.

Will dropping the car off in the morning and picking it up at night cost you a days work? Or is it just the hassle of having to drop it in the morning and collect it at night?

If it was mine and i just needed the car to work for another 2 weeks till i scrapped it. I might be tempted just to unplug the airbag and drive with the airbag light on.
