Never watched the wire.Scrolling through the tv listings I see homicide life on the street is now available via sky / now tv
For anyone who hasn't seen it this is one of the best tv shows ever made.
Made by the guy who made the wire but it's better imho. One season actually has a story line that is basically a dress rehearsal for the wire season one.
It's an earlier series that David Simon wrote based on his book about being embedded with the Baltimore Homicide Department. It's excellent. Great cast.Never watched the wire.
Is this new one based on someone? Or actual happenings?
If you watch The Wire eventually Stu stick with it. I know a couple of our mates who started it and gave up.Never watched the wire.

The Wire is up there with the best TV ever made. Think of it more like a novel by Dickens or Tolstoy. Yes, it's slow, but it builds up an amazing portrait of Baltimore society. The final season dips in quality compared with the previous 4 but that's still better than most TV dramas. It's not really a cop show, more slice of life thing. If you watch The Wire eventually Stu stick with it. I know a couple of our mates who started it and gave up.
I must give the wire a watch. To be smug for a moment I remember first introducing it to the board way back when. Tbh while I thought it brilliant I’m not convinced by claims it’s the GOAT (which you aren’t doing). The Wire is up there with the best TV ever made. Try watching with subtitles if you find the dialogue hard to follow. It takes a wee while for your ear to adjust.
They're both well-known now, but at the time I didn't realise Dominic West and Idris Elba weren't American!
I was with you until GOT. Tits and Dragons. Entertaining enough but it runs out if steam really quickly after they exhausted the source material and couldn't wait forever for George R R Martin to write the next one (still waiting).I must give the wire a watch. I think ‘dips in quality’ is kind to the last series, and it’s patchy before that. The first one and the one about the longshoremen are excellent but I don’t think the others are on the same level. I also think I agree with some criticism that it’s full of liberal projection in the way it depicts the gangs and ultimately it’s not very convincing.
Still brilliant but I think Homicide, Sopranos and - this one personal, I realise not such a widely held view - the Shield, are all a level above. So also GoT till it falls apart. And Edge of Darkness and the Smiley series from the Beebs archives. Oh and Bridesheas Revisited.
Not seen it. Will need to check it out.Blackstuff was outstanding telly. I also enjoyed The Street.
Brilliant writing and the episode with Bob Hoskins was the mutts nuts.
GoT you are correct. Once Martin's books were covered it lost its way.
Surprised you never mentioned Love/Hate though gadgie.
You missed Boardwalk Empire, Fargo, Gomorrah, Narcos, Tin Star, all terrific crime shows.Still brilliant but I think Homicide, Sopranos and - this one personal, I realise not such a widely held view - the Shield, are all a level above. A biker gang that never sold drugsNobody mentions sons of anarchy
Some brilliant twists in the story throughout… lots great characters.
Lots ooohs and aaaahs, lots of er nice ladies..
i know it’s about bikers but superb watch and it’s more of a story than just biker gangs
I thought it was absolutely superb, up there with Breaking bad
If you never seen this Stu it's from The Wire and it explains how to play chess
They sold everything man, mostly weaponsA biker gang that never sold drugs![]()

It was like The Shield (same geezer done it didn't he). It was a nice wee bit of hokum. They sold everything man, mostly weapons
I struggled to follow the dialogue in mayans and couldn’t get going with itIt was like The Shield (same geezer done it didn't he). It was a nice wee bit of hokum.
I watched Mayans MC as well but it was a bit of a kick the balls out of it series.
The Mayans Mc? I’m not sureIt was a wee bit predictable. Only managed a few series though did it not?
