Tv series

I give my subscription to my lassie and grandbairns and watch Netflix on the firestick.

If you use a VPN as well you can be in America and get netflix American version.
Yeah, I know that but I still want to know why I can't get season 2 on my Netflix sub when Netflix says season 2 is available.

Can't be arsed to scroll back through this thread, but has anyone ever watched Justified? Timothy Oliphant from Deadwood, Walton Goggins from the Shield. Super cool dialogue from Elmore Leonard. What's not to like?
Watched it a few years ago. Twas decent from memory, now a new series called Justified : City Primeval, Oliphants moved tae Miami. Not watched any so dinnae ken if its any good.

Just finished this. Bit slow and no quite Narcos but watchable.
I watched a couple of documentaries about her. She wasn't as pleasant in real life as the netflix show.

There's a telly show called The Killing being advertised just now.

It's the American version of the original Scandinavian series.

Worth a watch. It's more of a thriller than a shoot em up.

Seattle was picked because it was bleak enough to look like Scandinavian

The US version of the Killing came out in 2011 Jimmy! Though I think there are multiple seasons so it’s probably a new one.

Yes. I'm a bit worried how they resolve it - you know how it's easy to make something eerie and so on but then the explanation which makes it real world is often daft or banal? It could easily hit those rocks. But right now it's super creepy and atmospheric.

Reminds me of the thing in a way
So what are the thoughts now. I've watched all 4 episodes so far. Really atmospheric. Enjoying but undecided about whether they're overdoing the supernatural stuff.

Really enjoying the show as well. One of the highlights of another drab week.

Any of yous watching the rerun of The Killing?
Decent bit telly.

A bit of Scandy noir transported to America

Controversially I much preferred the second season of The Killing. It was shorter and much more tightly plotted. The first one was way too long and sprawling. Every couple of episodes was like, yeah this suspect is definitely the one, then 2 episodes later it was no it isn't, it's definitely this guy, until it isn't. Rinse and repeat for 20+ episodes. Yeah the first guy we thought it was, turned out to be him after all. Or was it? 😴

Aye the first series was a bit long. I'm sure I read somewhere that each episode was one day of the case.

Caught a couple of new 24 hours in Police custody.

The two parter about the pub fight that escalated was very good.

Hoping to watch this over the weekend. Anyone seen it?

This was brilliant. Really enjoyed it. For any Bouncers of a certain age it will definitely resonate. The link between music and album artwork and how important it seemed back in the day. Noel Gallagher is really perceptive and on the money in this doc. Makes me want to dig out my vinyl. Just need to buy a new turntable first!

They’re walking a knife edge. So far there is nothing that is completely supernatural - just highly improbable otherwise, like it’s technically possible to come across an orange on an ice field, just not very likely. At all.

How they resolve it will make this a worthwhile outing or a pile of shite. There’s always the ‘Stephen King problem’ where revealing the boogey man suddenly makes everything ridiculous. But he, and those like him, at least commit to a supernatural element. This could go wrong both ways.

Tbh - and to save you the time, don’t bother pointing out the flaws, I know it’s a failing on my part - I hate anything that isn’t realistic, from ‘serious’ magical realism to fantasy hokum. Or at least could be realistically explained, whatever the required stretch. In fact I actively like that kind of stuff, because the world is mysterious, it’s just not magical.

If this goes sci-fi , I’m out.

Until the collapse though, I still like it.

I’ve found the most recent 2 episodes a bit of a bore. Like they keep hinting at revealing more of the Jodie Foster character (and others) backstory and I’m really not all that fussed. Sky done this series called Fortitude a few years ago and it reminds me of that. I’ll give it another couple of episodes.

Re: Stephen King I’m sure he’s quoted as saying (or maybe he’s paraphrasing Hitchcock) “it’s not what you can see that scares you, it’s what you can’t see”, hence the usual long delay in revealing the boogeyman.

I think that’s fair. It is in danger of ‘rambling’. However, I’m a sucker for the setting and female led (without being FEMALE LED, geddit!!!) set up, so I’m letting that pass me by, for now.

I'm concerned it seems to have veered away from the original mystery. Only two episodes left so hope it gets back on track and pulls it all together.

Watching re-runs of Bagpuss on BBC4. There really is something magical about those old Oliver Postgate children's TV programmes from the 70s. The Clangers, Ivor the Engine, Bagpuss, Pogle's Wood.

Calimero was usually on telly when i got hame from work in the mid 70's.

And the daily fable.

Hello there Mr owl
What's happening today
In fable land

Now I'm watching Frontier starring Jason Momoa and despite the 4 main "Scottish" people actually being Canadian, American, Irish, and English and having blindly poor Scottish accents it's a decent series.

I'd watched that a few years back. I might give it another wee look though.

It's decent enough and portrays the arrogance of the English, the Hudson Bay Company, and their lust for power and wealth. Got to Season 2 Episode 2 and an actual Scotsman is playing a Scot [Jamie Sives from Lochend].

If you haven't watched Godless give that a bash Jimmy.

Just watched the latest three episodes of Sunderland till I Die.

The Loch Ness Drogba song made me chuckle.

The Space Shuttle that Fell to Earth on BBC 2 and the iPlayer . A Three part story of The Columbia Space Shuttle that burned up on re-entry. Excellent stuff , if that's the right thing to say, a very tough watch in parts . A tragedy that maybe could have been avoided if NASA had taken action before the launch

im intrigued to see what Shogun is like - launches on Disnae next week, looks epic

I stumbled across the 80s version on the Firestick this week. I'll probably watch it again as I really enjoyed it (I also read the book). I don't think I'll bother with the new version.

Its probably been mentioned somewhere in the 47 pages but we just watched( big binge) Slow Horses.
Excellent portrayal of Jackson Lamb by Oldman.
Having read the first 3 books, the TV series is quite close to those books.( series3 differs slightly), I'm looking forward to series 4/5/6.

Breathtaking started last night on itv . Lets you see what it was like for nurses and doctors during the covid pandemic, especially with bungling boris in charge, horrendous 😩😡
Thank the lord the vaccine became available when it did,👏
