Tv series

Black Doves - Netflix
Kiera Knightly 10/10
Sarah Lancashire 8/10
Sam Wishaw 10/10
Outstanding other cast
Fucking brilliant, addictive

Right, I’m going to give this a watch purely on your recommendation. (Although Keira Knightly does help). If it’s shite, you’ll be hearing from me.

I’ve been watching Bodkin. Meh.

The Jackal was above average, decent but not exceptional.

Different strokes an all that, but I think Redmayne is actually pretty good with a little bit of reflection, for me anyway.

Without spoiling anything, one of the best things about this show is that it doesn’t do that ludicrous cop out thing of the ‘good assassin’, who kills folk for a living but is actually a decent bloke.

It superficially nods to that - as you have picked up on - but Redmayne is always subtly undercutting it while making a decent fist of showing how people could be conned by such a character. He’s a wheedling little vacuum of a man wrapped up in public schoolboy-charm packaging, and Redmayne paints that in slowly and subtly I think. And like I said before I was not remotely convinced by the choice of actor going into it.
Watched the second episode and enjoying it a bit more but how Lashana Lynch's character isn't working for Jackson Lamb at Slough House after all those fuck ups is a complete mystery. 🤭

Really struggling through first episode. Total pony so far. Sub-Bourne/James Bond look and feel. Redmayne not doing it for me at all. He's a wet paper towel. They've just taken the name of the novel.
And I don't want to know about his family life. He's a sociopath. Stop trying to humanise him.
The film is a million times better.
Will stick with it a bit longer but not getting my hopes up.
Agree, thought it was shite. Questionable casting, acting and plot. His missus is tidy though.

Watched Music by John Williams today, simply fantastic. Highly recommend watching it.
Cavatina is one of my favourite tunes, and The Deerhunter one of my favourite movies Mark.

Agree with your scoring apart from Sarah Lancashire.
Maybe it's because of her previous roles , but for me she doesn't 'fit' the character here.
Otherwise it is very good.

Agree on both Bill, wonderful tune and movie. Watch the JW movie guy thing is you get a chance, guarantee you know all his music.

I'm watching Crooks at the moment, It's dubbed from some other language which means the dialogue is pretty atrocious but I'm going to stick with it.

Looking like it's a German show. I'll put it on the planner. But if it's pretty pony gie is a heads up Dub.

Cheers

Enjoying Dubs recommendation about the netflix show Crooks. Worth a gander.

Aye. I found out recently when watching the documentary about the making of the Sopranos why there was two parts to season 6.

Same with Yellowstone I think.

If they made the series and called it season 7 they would have had to get the cast to sign new contracts.

But because it was still series 6 they didn't need to part with more money.

Right yous telly watching folk. Here is a way to unlock netflix and find some decent content that is normally unavailable.

The codes are on the link with the categories as well........

There are two ways to access the secret collections. You can do it from any desktop by typing 'netflix.com/browse/genre/' into the URL and adding a unique ID code.

Alternatively, if you use Netflix on a TV, you can simply type in the code to the 'search' bar. It does not work on mobile or tablets.

Thanks for the heads up as I had missed that. Peter Mullen and his brother Lenny were pals of mine when we were bairns - I guess I took a wrong turn somewhere.

I'm hoping you guys don't really mean Peter Mullen the priest, but rather Peter Mullan the actor.

However, in both cases scuddyness @1875 is not in either my interest, nor my collection.

More than one wrong turn @blue toon hibby .
Even for you.

:coffee1:

Indeed. Lenny sent me pics.
