You tell him hen!
You tell him hen!
That's a different argument. But I do agree with you that it didn't come out of nowhere. You might not care who started it, but you are pretty clearly ascribing blame on 'complacent liberal progressives' and 'the global elite'.The guy is a fucking dangerous clown but he didn't appear from nowhere. He's the product of voter dissatisfaction with complacent liberal progressives. See also Orban, Meloni, Le Pen, Farage etc. They didn't arise in a vacuum. They are the inevitable consequence of the global elite pissing on voters' heads and telling them it's raining.
This 'oh but they're worse, they started it!' is getting us nowhere fast. We need to have adult, grown-up conversations about the challenges facing Western liberal democracies, not childish name-calling. I don't give a fuck who started it but sane people need to end it.
The false equivalency argument. Just what the republicans want the narrative to be. Utter horseshit of course but hey ho.I can't think of any President, Republican or Democrat, who acted like Trump. Can you?
The whole 'bad as each other' effectively absolves Trump. And the suggestion that criticism of Trump is down to 'ideological preference ' has the same effect.
Spot on. My thoughts exactly. That's a different argument. But I do agree with you that it didn't come out of nowhere. You might not care who started it, but you are pretty clearly ascribing blame on 'complacent liberal progressives' and 'the global elite'.
I Think you are missing a key element. Trump and his political backers didn't just fall into the presidency. They weaponised dissatisfaction with that aim.
You could reasonably argue that's what politicians do. But the scale and ferocity of it really is unparalleled. The election denying, the constant beating of the race drum , the dehumanisation of people with different views, the perverse actions around the Ukraine and traditional allies and the transactional enrichment of the Trump family is unparalleled and should be called out.
The suggestion that calling this out is 'childish name calling' is the opposite of an adult discussion. If you want adults in the room you need to understand why they aren't there. And one of the really dangerous things about Trump is that his actions lead to a fundamental change in how the Presidency works beyond him. So many Democrats love Newsom because he does Trump style push backs. Really - is that what the world needs. Some Democrats say that, if in power, they should act the same way as Trump for their ends. That's just as bad. Although no doubt they could argue, as you appear to do, that their actions are justified as look what you made me do.
A final thought on why Trump isn't as passive in all this as you appear to think. I recall a discussion with a Trump voter (a lovely guy BTW) about his constant lies. His response? They all lie. That's called the liars dividend.
And it's the same when someone posts a meme that some random posts in response to the President and say they are as bad as each other. That's the false equivalence dividend. It allows for hand wringing about both sides and it gets Trump off the hook. By reducing it to the both are childish view it fundamentally ignores where the power lies and gives political space for the execution of that power. And that's what Trump and his backers want.
"In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, nor to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. That's a different argument. Given the erstwhile Tucker Carlson is now taking it upon himself to defend Islam and blaming fears of radical Islam on... well take a guess...can anyone tell me if his recent political movement is taking him to the far right or leftwards?
So is that the Masons then?
I like your thinking! So is that the Masons then?
There were a couple of sketches he done with Mason Boyne being the main man.class, never seen that before! Edinburgh getting a mention as well!
When you think about how pervasive that lot have been in Scottish society, it's surprising how little lampooning of them actually exists. As far as I know anyway, discovering this might indicate there's loads more I didn't know about?!There were a couple of sketches he done with Mason Boyne being the main man.
You ever seen the play Just Another Saturday? When you think about how pervasive that lot have been in Scottish society, it's surprising how little lampooning of them actually exists. As far as I know anyway, discovering this might indicate there's loads more I didn't know about?!
