TRUMP IS A See you next Tuesday

Och they're just pissed that their despot has been overthrown. The whole Saudi argument is daft. The guy would have been better focusing on what America has done rather than daft comparisons
I think he said exactly what the US has done and why Martin. The Saudi argument isn't daft in the correct context, that this has got nothing, whatsoever to do with the US being defenders of democracy in Latin/South America.

All correct, however the 2002 coup against the democratically elected Chavez government is ironically missing, though the seizing of natural resources has taken 24 years .There should be another wee bit red, top side added.

Nobody is disputing America's cold war record. Almost of all of this is while they were in an existential struggle with communism and rightly or wrongly they were never going to allow the USSR to extend it's empire to their back yard. Of course they were neck deep in exploitation as well.

The Saudi comparison is daft. We are talking about a region where democracy is utterly alien and the choice is monarch, secular despot or mad mullahs. To your credit, and I guess other communists, you were pointing this out in broad terms back in Iraq days.

The latter day yanks share your analysis of the futility of trying to change all that. So comparing a regional ally against even more batshit elements over there, doesn't really compare with a dictator overthrowing democracy, murdering tens of thousands of blacks and poor people and oppressing a nation just across the water from the US.

He'd imo have been better focusing on what the Americans might let loose by such actions rather than weak and nonsensical whataboutery.

That's right . However I give credit where credit is due M, you are the only one who has said on here, as I did that was the case with Putin's regime also, when NATO at the behest of the US broke well documented agreement not to advance close to Russia. Before my pal @Smurf jumps in the RCP whilst stating this, opposed from day one the Imperialist, reactionary invasion of Ukraine.

I'm sure there were other mentions on this thread about the NATO expansion being used to goad Russia.

And the Russians had a point given their history of being surrounded by hostile nations.

Or it might have actually been the Ukraine thread. 😞

This story from 2019 is resurfacing. Fiona Hill talked about this in a deposition to Congress. At the time nobody thought anything of it but now folk are putting two and two together. For instance, why did the Russian air defence systems totally fail to function during the raid? :puzzledsmiley:

@EH17 Jimmy people seem to confuse the actions of US Imperialist adventures for the benefit of US Capitalism with opposition to there actions, whether in Venezuela or Iran, with support for the regimes there . I do not support Mudura nor the reactionary Mullah led regimes but my distaste for them is neither here nor there. Imperialist interventions whether US, Russian or Chinese have to be opposed unconditionally in my opinion by every rationally minded person.

But is drugs no just a secret code word for oil?

Much the same as Weapons of Mass Destruction was the catchy name for oil a few years ago.

what point did the russians have in slaughtering Ukrainians?

Read the article chap, you should find it pleasingly critical of Trump.

Oil is not the golden ticket it used to be. It was trading at negative value the other year, ie oil companies were paying people to take it.
I dont need to. Your headline is about the price of the oil. That price means very little. Its the type of oil. A kind one country doesnt have much of ;))

I would think to send a message that they were serious about NATO expansion.

And also to see how far they could push the rest of Europe.

And that is only my view of things.

So you still believe the russians had a point. Illegally invading another nation and slaughtering them.
Stay classy.

You may be making what the author attributes to a mistake made by old men, ie assuming this has a value when the market for it is disappearing

But it seems you have read the guardian's take and all is decided ;))

This article argues Venezuelan oil is worth fuck all at current barrel prices and unlikely to improve given demand projections and given the infrastructure is in the state you'd expect after decades of state socialism

Ooft!

Out of interest, does this info help or hinder your assertion that Trump did this as part of a wider, long-term grand plan?

never read the guardian in my life mate so that was a waste of your time.

I did state a fact about the oil though. :giggley:

I wasn't just pulling you plonker. They do have an article saying much what you said.

I'm not disputing your fact, and I'm in no position to suggest what is correct here, I am just saying the article is interesting as it argues the economics aren't there, whatever a simple American view of heavy crude suiting their refineries.

Your billionaire claim has been called as nonsense multiple times on here.....Troll
There is no point… he just puts up any old fiction he can find. Repeat repeat repeat, if he has even the craziest iota of a grain of truth as evidence he would show it… the very reason he never ever gives us ANY evidence of any kind for any of his slavering everyone asks for.
He only asks for us to prove things or us to show the evidence…talk about a completely empty argument 🙈
Maybe he’s in a big airbus 380, flying east to get to Australia then the USA then the uk to prove it can’t be done because he will fall off the end of the earth 🥹

If Biden, Obama or any other Democratic president did this, it would be looked at a whole lot differently. Hell even a Republican that's name wasn't Trump.

Setting aside anything else it is virtually identical to what Bush Snr did with Noriega.

But a big difference is that was at the beginning of a unipolar period where the US ruled the world and it couldn't be taken as a license by anyone else to behave in similar fashion.

It wouldn't, Trump's recent moves are the culmination of actions against Venezuela taken, aided and abetted by Biden, Obama and Bush. If you knew you're history and all that.

Absolutely correct though you need to add in Clinton and Bush Sr. The roots of all this are the admission of China to the WTO, the looting of post Soviet Russia, 911 and the response to it culminating in the woke era.

Collectively these eviscerated the working and middle class of America (and beyond), empowered it's enemies (literally gave them the keys), and divided America and the West against itself including pole-flipping the two parties.

That has produced everything from the crisis of global capitalism, to the multi polar world, to the rise of populism and much else besides.

Even as it won the cold war, indeed almost exactly from that moment, the end of neo liberalism was sown.

When it comes to anything Trump does, it's always spun in the worst way possible by the left and his opposition. When Obama was using ICE and deporting millions, barely a squeek was heard about it.

This move on Venezuela wasn't done in the right way, but it was a move in the grand scheme of things.

When it comes to Trump, he could cure cancer, solve world peace and still be hated.
