TRUMP IS A See you next Tuesday

Come on... There's nothing here not addressed in the post you are replying to, and it's point remains:

Several presidents have deployed the national guard to enforce the law at local request. Lyndon Johnson for one deployed against the governors wishes. Trump has deployed the national guard to enforce the law when state government was deliberately thwarting it. If the latter is without precedent (and I don't know - maybe not in Johnsons case) , Trump's part is still the reaction to the prior anti democratic action. And it is disturbing, as the whole picture is, as is the descent into tribalism of people picking up parts of it and ignoring the others.

People who live in gated communities sending the working class into a shit show and blacks into the morgue while rejecting the law are not disturbing to you while a president refusing that is? Really? Maybe it comes down to whether black or poor lives actually matter as opposed to making for a cool bumper sticker?

Both are disturbing to me. But it seems to me that some people get angry at fire while excusing people chucking matches onto petrol. They both worry me but I also think about cause and effect and the origin of blazes
Has he though? Reports from these cities suggest the guard stood around twiddling their thumbs for the most part. I'm still not getting what it is you think was or wasn't being done by the states forces that he needed to remedy, your statements are all a bit vague?

What this looks like to me (and I think you know this) is it's all a been part of the strongman show from Trump, feeding his ego and trying to scare his enemies. It sits proudly for him alongside the withholding of state budgets and university cash, going after politicians with the DOJ, expanding the ICE budget to mind-bloggling proportions, the media agreement he tried to have them all sign on reporting on the armed forces, the (fascist) list goes on.

In that context it's just not comparable to any other time a president used the National Guard, imo. Much more disturbing.

There are multiple cities in States where it's unsafe to even venture into. Places where gang, gun and drug violence is through the roof. Cleaning up those places isn't going to be pretty, there's going to be push back and violence.

This isn't the UK where the police can just rock up with shields, tear gas and sticks. The national guard are going into situations where these gangs have wide access to handguns, AK's and even full automatic weapons. The priority is ridding these cities of these gangs while protecting the honest hard working people. If they send a few squad cars and a few dozen cops, these gangs will fancy their chances. You bring the national guard with a huge show of strength, they'll quickly back down. These aren't good people.

My mate who was over in August lives 20 odd miles from Washington DC. He said it's not safe to go there ofnan evening.

He was telling us about the wee bairn they got caught in the crossfire then the story broke here a couple of days later.

America has lost control of the gang culture and I cannot see them putting that particusl problem to bed anytime soon.

There are entire cities that are unsafe to venture into, what kinds of things are used as evidence for that being the case?

The cleaning up though, what does that look like? National Guard go in, and do what? Cos honestly man, I'm thinking places that are in such a state aren't gonna come up smelling fresh just after some guys with guns go ape. Wouldn't there need to be things like poverty levels, housing shortages, school academic levels, local government support, community outreach, prison-based programs, early intervention, rehabilitation, etc etc that would actually change things long-term?

1. Sanctuary cities shelter illegal migrants in defiance of federal law 2. Though Trump is somewhat late to the party, cities like Portland handed over chunks of the city to antifa mobs for months at a time despite mayhem, intimidation and violence (and the odd murder).

More generally, though not with the same rationale from local defiance of the law, I expect he wins support from people whose cities have been ravaged by drug abuse, murder and lawlessness under potty local administrations.

I repeat that I find it disturbing, especially some of the ICE stuff. Its not quite Starmer's Britain but it's certainly very dangerous.

I think he absolutely does it because it's popular. I see what you mean when you use the f word but then it's less f than the integration of government, security services, state, wall street, media and academia that was absolutely antithetical to the interests and freedoms of ordinary people - which they want torn down and which he has set about doing. Setting aside the militarisation stuff, what he is doing to institutions is probably the only way you can dismantle such a full spectrum and entrenched regime.

Its a democratic revolution of a kind and revolutions and revolutionaries are seldom good guys. Nor often are the regimes they seek to overthrow. We should never have gone down this path but the rich and powerful weren't for learning or turning. It will happen in Europe too, and likely far worse.
In that context it's just not comparable to any other time a president used the National Guard, imo. Much more disturbing.
The context is also unlike that faced by any post war president until recent times. Talk about fascism, the previous administration had security and intelligence services conspiring to put it in power. The whole edifice was rotten and summoned up it's nemesis. It was all inevitable - I was talking about its inevitablity 20 years ago though tbf I completely failed to see it for the US which I thought would escape Europe's fate. Uh uh.

Here EG see when you stop trying to annoy (and failing) with your laughing emoji would you like to try and add something to a thread?

It might be therapeutic for you and it might stop you getting the giggles 😁

These emojis are a response to things too uncomfortable to think about. EGers is hardly solely to blame for the phenomenon.

Thanks for the detail.

Aye the defiance of federal law, that is just what you've said though, a defiance. Its not breaking federal law, so why would it justify this action? States defy federal law constantly - you'll know the ones that do so around gun laws eh? Abortion? Environmental restrictions? Heck even vaccines. Didn't see a president send in the troops for those now did we?

Portland was defo a bit basket case for a while no doubt, but what other cities are you meaning where antifa mobs took over?

Aye course his supporters appear to have the same paranoia and irrational fear he does, of just about everything that doesn't make them feel warm and fuzzy. Snowflakes man.

Could I maybe point you to my response to Torto above - do you agree that next to fuckall would be solved in a city 'ravaged by drug abuse, lawlessness and murder' by sending in armed national guard?

I repeat that I find it disturbing, especially some of the ICE stuff. Its not quite Starmer's Britain but it's certainly very dangerous.
Ah wait you've said here it is actually disturbing. Yeah. 100%.

Although Starmers britain made me chuckle. Has he been here long enough now to make the country his own? Impressive! In all seriousness though, you reckon what here, that Starmer has created an masked unmarked force worse than ICE? Have I missed something?

I see. Trump telling the media what it can and can't report on is a good thing. Trump telling the DOJ to make up any charges they can to imprison the people he doesn't like is a good thing. Trump telling universities to teach only the doctrines he approves is a good thing.

Aye I've read about folk seeing these things happen and declaring them good things before. Very much needed, to tear down the horrible regime and people who were secretly pulling all the strings before. Yes. History does indeed repeat. Interesting.

Did it? Weren't very good at it then were they? Absolutely useless at it it seems! Not as big and scary as you previously described them then really. Trump wont need to work very hard! Just kidding, as if Trump does work!

It is breaking the law. What laws are being broken in these other cases?
Portland was defo a bit basket case for a while no doubt, but what other cities are you meaning where antifa mobs took over?
Seattle. Again 'autonomous zones' were left to wreak mayhem, murder the occasional black person and so on. There were others but more short lived.
Aye course his supporters appear to have the same paranoia and irrational fear he does, of just about everything that doesn't make them feel warm and fuzzy. Snowflakes man.
What is irrational about concern at vast upticks in homicide (now finally abating in some places as the whackos roll back some of their excesses), having to step over junkies as you go about and shopping districts emptying out as stores close down in the faces of lawlessness?
Could I maybe point you to my response to Torto above - do you agree that next to fuckall would be solved in a city 'ravaged by drug abuse, lawlessness and murder' by sending in armed national guard?
No. I'm not saying that should be done but it could make a massive difference. I mean quite clearly. When the police withdrew due to defund the police hijinks thousands of additional homicides and road deaths happened pretty much immediately, replicating the pattern of previous cycles of the same thing. It was mainly black people that suffered so noone except racist right wingers cared, least of all the white wokesters that caused it. But all the same: less enforcement, more killing. More enforcement, less killing.

I mean by all means object to the approach, I do from my safe distance. But it seems nuts to suggest it can't work, at least in principle.
Ah wait you've said here it is actually disturbing. Yeah. 100%
Yeah I've said it from the outset, hence the 'I repeat'. Are you not reading or more intent on a game only you are playing?
Although Starmers britain made me chuckle. Has he been here long enough now to make the country his own? Impressive! In all seriousness though, you reckon what here, that Starmer has created an masked unmarked force worse than ICE? Have I missed something?
He's been in office longer than the Trump administration. Unpleasant though they may be Ice are targeting illegal migrants for deportation, not American citizens for having the wrong thoughts. There's no comparison and the difference does not favour us.
I see. Trump telling the media what it can and can't report on is a good thing. Trump telling the DOJ to make up any charges they can to imprison the people he doesn't like is a good thing. Trump telling universities to teach only the doctrines he approves is a good thing.
Who said that? Are you having trouble challenging my arguments? If not why are you replacing them? Trump replicating the methods used against him in revenge is both highly regrettable and highly predictable. See vid below.
Aye I've read about folk seeing these things happen and declaring them good things before. Very much needed, to tear down the horrible regime and people who were secretly pulling all the strings before. Yes. History does indeed repeat. Interesting.
What are you on about? Have you moved from seeing fascists under the bed to now objecting to knocking down things which resemble it at least as much as what you complain of? You know what fascism is right? Integration of private enterprise and all private domains with the state?

Do you actually care about turns in that direction, or is it just a rhetorical tool to wield at the enemy tribe?
Did it? Weren't very good at it then were they? Absolutely useless at it it seems! Not as big and scary as you previously described them then really. Trump wont need to work very hard! Just kidding, as if Trump does work!
It happened fella, deal with it.

Wrt the above this video is interesting. Dinesh D'souza, a conservative from a less barking age, gets tore into both the woke right and the progressive madnesses that have torn America apart. There is an exchange that goes right to one of the topics above. His interviewers lament the Trumpian response to the latter and he does too: but also observes that prior Conservative reluctance to meet increasing authoritarianism, abuse of power and general bampottery has just emboldened more of the same. The appeasement problem basically.

It makes the hosts uncomfortable and me to, though it's also obvious. Militancy begets militancy and the cycle is very hard to break once joined. Exactly as I forecast all those years ago.

Edit - sorry wrong vid before

Ps if we continue can we dispense with the games? I am not interested in tribes and it's a bit of a red neck when people on here replicate the progressive media's complete inability - and perhaps disinterest - to see the world as it is rather than a simplistic psychodrama of their own concoction.

Tldr please engage with points I have made rather than making stuff up and putting it in my mouth. I'm so done with that kind of thing and won't waste further time on it. That's not down to you by the way, theres just so much of it about and im so bored of it, sorry you came along at the wrong time so to speak.

I'm afraid it comes across as people just repeating what our betters have told us to think, which reminds me what the appeal of fascism is actually. It saves people having to think about difficult things and a pleasing surrender to emotion over reason.

Its not breaking the law. The tenth amendment says so.

can I just check in on what you're referring to here - its not sanctuary cities now, as its known rates of violent crime actually reduced on those post-sanctuary?

You're meaning those cities that reduced their police forces temporarily in the months after the Floyd protests?

Cos then for the former, the justification is literally not there, and for the latter, that was some time ago and no longer applies surely?

I dont think national guard deployment performs in the same way as local police do. They aren't the same thing. But cool, we differ there.
Yeah I've said it from the outset, hence the 'I repeat'. Are you not reading or more intent on a game only you are playing?

Riiiight, so Starmer has been imprisoning people en mass too, bit for their thoughts? Ah wait this is that hotel migrants protest thing isn't it? Right sorry I get you now.

I went ahead and listed those actions you stated he was doing.

As above, I took what you said and broke down what that has actually consisted of. If you dont believe those actions are what you meant when you said that, please describe what you meant instead?

As for what you think about how what I say comes across, bully for you. Quite simply, you've said - repeatedly - that many of the actions Trump is taking are justified due to the need to tear down an all-seeing, all-joined-up amalgamation of shadowy powers that conspired to kill the western world from within. Forgive me for pointing out that that, in fact, seems a wee bit like the simplistic psychodrama you speak of. Or don't. Hey ho.

AFAIK the tenth amendment does not license states to break federal law. It reserves to states that which has not been delegated to the centre. This has been abused, say with Roe vs Wade, which has now been reversed to conform to the constitution, but that is not the same thing.

Try a more up to date view. When I was I Seattle a decade or so ago (for example) you could safely eat off the pavement. Not now.
You're meaning those cities that reduced their police forces temporarily in the months after the Floyd protests?
I mean the withdrawal of policing - meaning both the above and work to rule type behaviour by embattled police - in response to the defund brouhaha.
Cos then for the former, the justification is literally not there, and for the latter, that was some time ago and no longer applies surely?
I wasn't justifying anything, in fact I said I disagreed with the approach. It was also an answer to a different question which you put then, versus what you have changed it to now - ie can such an approach be an effective counter to lawlessness. That is the question I answered and it is not timebound

I agree it depends on how they are utilised.

I didnt make any value judgements I said it is probably the only means to achieve the end. I think there are no good paths here, I don't agree with what Trump is doing but the authoritarian apparatus he is playing at their own game is rancid too and not for reforming - having virtually eradicated dissenting opinion in the institutions and abusing their power to harass it elsewhere. As I said, once the spiral is joined its bad all the way down.

A point on the narrative you employed before : this is quite the opposite of a shady cabal, it is virtually the entire power class and so in the open and pervasive that many can't see it anymore than a fish can see water. Again, look at the way their narratives and goodies and baddies models are your reference. They're not mine.

Where did i say it is justified? This is my point about the psychodramas. I'm not taking sides I am simply describing the dynamics of a rotten situation, specifically to try to answer your questions. I have despaired at those driving us to this pass for two decades and been relentless on the point they would spawn something as bad or worse in opposition. As here we are.

From my point of view it is darkly amusing to be now be bracketed alongside what I feared by those for whom there was nothing to see here back then. And it's still happening now, and if we are all still here when Britain comes apart I expect the same again. Sorry you have wandered into that context which I am tiring of, but there we are.

I will try to be clear: when I say how things are as I see it, that is a world away from contemporary doctrine that invents narratives from prior loyalties. I'm trying to understand what is. I won't always get that right of course but have a far better chance than people tying themselves to fictions from the get go
Whatever. Watch the video or don't - it goes to what we were discussing and is relevant, however the choirmasters say we should feel about Dinesh himself

Eegie it's confusing at times speaking to you as, with this thread's exchange and others, you will say something like; x did y because of z. You won't qualify it by prefixing it with 'I think', or suffix it with 'as shown by x'. You'll just state it like it's a well-established fact, almost as if folk are daft if they didn't already know it.

When I said something wasn't justified, I wasn't saying you had said you felt it was justified; but you had just literally typed it above as reasons for Trump to justify it. You get me? But I guess then when you blur these lines like I describe above, it can get even yourself into a bit of a tizzy?

As for Dinesh, come on man. I do find that reasoning funny when folk (and I see it often in the right-wing-o-sphere) say, hey, just forget the illegal/dangerous/outright stupid stuff this guy has said and done repeatedly and for years; on this topic he's bang on and you should listen to him, well worth it! If you don't, you're clearly a big stupid old sheep!

Whatever happened to the measure of a man, and learning from experience, and staying well away from those who you know can cause harm? Cos that guy is not only a fucking clown, he's a nasty, scheming, dangerous clown. I'll let whatever he has to say about anything slide thanks man, due to the known facts about him, without having to check in with any choirmaster(?!)

With the ceasefire in gaza all but over down to the usual israeli bawbaggery, it appears that trump has been played again by the genocidal madman . So much for sorting out gaza and ukraine, the man is all hot air and no substance . Three people need removal from power , trump is one of them and the only way to end the conflicts is absolute sanctions on putin and lack of support to Israel 🤷‍♂️
P.s. add swinney to the list 👍

Aye I was talking about that with my lassie on Saturday when the Simpsons came into the conversation

Btw American media aint any better. Last night the rapist president was interviewed on the (so-called) legendary show 60 Minutes. Here's a list of outright lies he said and wasnt challenged on a single one:

Obviously everyone is numbed, tired, sick of his shite by now. But its no excuse, and its incumbent on these media outlets to surely get the fucking basics right and ask back when lies are spouted at this rate. Its truly an unbelievably stupid timeline we're in, and its only getting worse.

The answer to that, as many a Scottish nationalist will have been able to tell you for years, is a resounding no. Throw the book at these kants I say.

@Keepitgreen ,contained within the article is a video clip. Gaza is a 'textbook genocide', according to Raz Segal - an Israeli associate professor of Holocaust and Genocide studies at Stockton University in the US, some time back, who knows a bit about the subject we can assume. Listen carefully to what he says particularly any genocide deniers still kicking around.

The BBC's Middle East Editor is beyond belief. Couldnae make it up as they say.
It takes tiny non MSM outlets to say it how it is. I'm surprised that the totally unbiased Telegraph hasn't splashed it

I think it's fair to say the BBC comes in two parts and the entertainment branch is for the most part pretty good.

The political news branch of the news branch not so good.

And where the two mix it can be a bit of a clusterfuck.

Neither political party would dare fuck about with Have I Got News For You (they all watch it and despite some horrors it's apparently something they all are desperate to do) but the BBC were pressured by the torys into dropping Mock the Week, apparently coming back thankfully.

And then there's Question Time. Deary me, as a few on here are prone to say!

Why would an "impartial" news outlet do this? That's the bigger question. What do they gain.

Theyre not an impartial outlet.

That said, the more I look at this the worse it gets, even by BBC standards. A fair chunk of the population were taken by this as you can see by Trump threads on here, and that includes me.

Its straight out manufacturing of a false reality. I mean everyone knows that the bbc is biased and trying to impose a given world view. But I honestly didn't think they did stuff like this.

Day 2 of the telegraph expose focuses on the BBC - and especially their Arabic service - 1 acting as Hamas' media arm

Are they really that different from Al jazeera where reportedly the English language content takes a progressive line to play the useful idiots, while the Arabic content editorial line is islamist?

Bojo must have been watching the BBC.

He very probably was. I think it is fair bet that most British people think Trump encouraged the mob on Jan 6th and it seems that comes down in major part to the bbc, whose apparent footage was no doubt then referenced by the wider media. I certainly thought he'd done it.

Theyre not an impartial outlet.

That said, the more I look at this the worse it gets, even by BBC standards. A fair chunk of the population were taken by this as you can see by Trump threads on here, and that includes me.

Wether people like or dislike Trump, he was 100% correct about "fake news" They did the same thing over here when 60 minutes spliced the Harris interview to make her look smarter.

There's one saying that always rings true, "follow the money" There's a more sinister reason behind these media corporations trying to influence who runs certain countries. With AI a bawhair away from being perfected, they'll be able to spin anything they want to sway the masses. Scary stuff if you ask me.

I think its ideology as well as money but the two are related. Liberalism / progressivism makes the rich and the state sector richer at the expense of everyone else, but it's not just that.

Just back from my hols where I met quite a few yanks. There was the usual mixture of lovely folk, annoyingly loud ones and utter rockets. What worries me is just how far some are down the rabbit hole. The majority were embarrassed by tango man but some believe the nonsense that trump has a masterplan and dismiss the fact they are intensely disliked around the world. One even asked if the fans in Ireland will behave worse than the Americans. They think the world revolves around them. Its feckin embarrassing their total lack of self awareness. The elections yesterday showed that, thankfully, loads of independents have had enough of trump but the maga base holding up. I suspect the Democrats will win control of Congress next November which will basically see nothing get passed of significance till the 2028 election. I'm more hopeful having spoken to a few lovely yanks they can get back on an even keel but feel their reputation hasn't quite reached rock bottom and there will be massive bumps in the road.

People forget that 75m people voted for the Democrats in 2024. Trump got just over 2m votes more. There's a lot of Americans who aren't bought into what he is and what he brings.
