Why change what was already good and working to fit around one player?
Every time I've seen McGrath on the left we look empty in midfield when there's a turnover.
You'd need to ask David Gray? I dunno why he changed shape. Just say what I see.
I spent the first 13 games calling for us to back to the old shape.
And it isn't to fit around 1 player, it was a new season with a new set of players, he must've thought it was the best way to use all 11 players.
And that's not entirely true. Very true when Mulligan is at right wing back though.
The euro games McGrath was on the left and we competed in midfield too. Mulligan is the key to our midfield, without him there's not really a midfield.
We already have a better midfielder, if he was played in his best position, Mulligan.
If his role is the same as McGrath, sitting just behind the strikers, then that’s fine as we need much better cover in that position.
As above, Mulligan is behind all that action.
I dunno if we are in for Polvara or he's got his agent making everyone aware that he's available in the summer.
But if we are, it means we're looking at that position.
We don't need that position right now, so something else must be going on. A change of shape would answer questions of why a right midfielder.
For arguments sake, we bring in this guy, and a proper right full back to compete or displace Cadden
Sallinger
RB Hanley Iredale Obita
Mulligan Chaiwa
Polvara/other---------------------McGrath
Klidje Bowie
Youan/Hoilett option on forward and left mid.
Cadden option left mid left back.
Rocky/O'Hora option at the back
Barlaser/Newell option centre mid.
Campbell is the player most at risk here.
But if we have issues up front, injuries, suspensions... Then we have options to go 4231 and drop someone in attacking mid... Hoilett, Campbell, McGrath...
It's a lot more versatile than 3412/3421 and that'll always be a fallback mid game even required.
We have to look at new things, we're manageable opposition currently because we don't offer something different.
