- Leyton
The name Leyton comes from Anglo-Saxon and means "settlement on the River Lea".
- Orient
The name Orient comes from the Orient Shipping Company, which employed some of the club's early players. The company is now part of P&O.
- History
The club was originally called Eagle Cricket Club in 1886, then Orient Football Club in 1888, and Clapton Orient in 1898. The club moved to Leyton in 1937 and became Leyton Orient Football Club after World War II.
