Started by champaigne bottles used as pyrottecnic sparklers apparentlyHorrendous. Started by a candle apparently.
Appears to be mostly young folks too. Horrendous start to 2026.Absolutely horrific, 47 confirmed deaths , totally avoidable with proper safety in place and a lack of human stupidity![]()
I take your point, but if you started fucking about with sparklers or naked flames in Glasgow/Edinburgh clubs, you'd be thrown out the door head first. I'm not sure the same attitude by door staff applies in these resorts. Poor souls, we've all been young, drunk and daft but maybe we were managed a bit better. In all seriousness, you'd be surprised that this can happen in a swanky ski resort in Switzerland.
I have the Stardust Nightclub fire in Dublin, 45 years ago, as the template for everything that can go wrong in the "Third World" conditions that were common in nightclubs in Dublin, Glasgow, Edinburgh or London at the time. It's no laughing matter, but it's difficult not to laugh in horror, reading the report into the Stardust blaze.
Not much can be done if you're in the hold of a ship and something goes "Bang!" but you'd think Switzerland would have stringent regulations on fire safety.

Just read about that. Mind blowing. In all seriousness, you'd be surprised that this can happen in a swanky ski resort in Switzerland.

Mad.There's some absolutely hair raising nonsense coming out about this. Some of the stories about the way workers are treated under the current ownership, the crowd being apparently made up of bairns - but bairns with access to private jets? given how many of the survivors discussed choosing which country to spend the evening in, sans parents, at a late stage - this is unscrupulous bastards bending over backwards, far past the law and far past any remotely forgiveable laxness, to indulge rich clients, but ones who are far too young to be in that position.
Dead 14 year olds who's parents don't even know if they were there. Can't get my head round it. Horror and disgust both.
