Then maybe demands for large pay increases is to be applauded. I know very little about the pay structure for care workers in Britain but I imagine much/most of it is private enterprise. Are care workers being exploited?

There are certainly larger care organisation's who simply see the industry as a cash cow. I work for a small well established charity who are very open with their income and after quite a few years in the red they have been making small profits the last few years. I wouldn't strike because I believe they are paying what they can afford. I have the option of looking elsewhere but as I said the sleepovers help boost my wage so it is not so bad.

BBC TV News is on just now saying the Gatwick Airport strikes called off this weekend. Carefully avoiding how much they've settled for. I can't even find the story on their website yet.

The 16 Trades Unions worked in a coordinated manner. A lesson which their sister Unions in the rest of the UK should take note in my opinion.
Teachers, nurses, paramedics, classroom assistants, transport workers, and civil servants joining, the one-day of action to demand pay rises to catch up with their counterparts in Britain.

The date of the 18th of January is of some significance. On that date in 1914 saw the end of the heroic struggle of Irish workers during the Dublin Lockout where the Irish bosses aided and abetted by the powerful, reactionary Catholic Church tried to smash/starve the Irish Trade Unions out of existence from August - January.

Heard my first Xmas tunes yesterday in a supermarket and folk already asking where they can get a "good old British Xmas dinner" Away and fuck off home ya pricks.
Edit: I'm talking about ex pats with their pathetic little groups and the "oh Thai food is too spicy" and "this or that would never happen where we come from"
I repeat...JUST FUCK OFF THEN!
Tourists can be excused, sort of.

Ooft. Maybe best not to have any trips home BK - you’d be absolutely raging at immigrants in Britain who’ve filled the country with their food - hell they even have the locals eating it!

At least the Thais aren’t being converted to British dishes like Turkey and the trimmings or chicken tikka masala!

Reminds me of the Brits we used to hear in the Greek Islands moaning about poor English breakfasts and can’t get the Man U game on the telly. Fucking stay at home then.

It’s not steering it away from anything; quite the opposite, it’s pointing out exactly what you’re doing.

Like many a good Scot you like to fire out a lot of prejudiced guff about English folk, only to regularly indulge in just what you accuse them of; that despite your idyllic situation and theirs less so (those back home I mean, not those alongside you).

Then you get grumpy and try and shut things down by misuse of concepts like whataboutery.

It’s a load of very Scottish hypocrisy. And not only that it smacks of the very peculiar worldview drummed into all of us, that it’s bigoted to expect the same here that we demand of other brits elsewhere.
 
Ps I think anyone who prefers British grub to Thai scran wants their head examined. And I think most migrants to Britain who prefer their own grub to ours are of perfectly sound judgement.

I think those that won’t integrate with locals are a problem in both cases.

I love a British (Scottish, Irish, English, never seen a Welsh) breakfast when I'm abroad, or on a boat. I don't often have breakfast out when I'm at home and the full works is a pain in the arse to do right in the house. AND, apart from Cafe Marmalade, the ones at home often aren't as good as the ones abroad.

There. I said it and I don't care what you all think!
 
I used to like down south when you could get bubble and squeak with your brekkie.

The Abbey do a decent brekkie.

In Burdiehoose, we (well, more my parents really but I'll sit in for any nosh) used to have tinned tomatoes wi bread and butter around 9.30pm for supper!
 
I think with a brekkie some nice crusty rolls from Fergies to mop up the juice.

Some tasty wee snacks. I mind my dad making boiled tatties and serving them with oatmeal sprinkled over.
