Star Wars

There is no way that Luke will be the Baddie! That would destroy his journey in the original films and alienate all the fans. I don't think that he's going to be seen much in the new film, but I do believe that he's gonna turn up right at the end to save the new characters from disaster!
Dunno, would help them out with fact he's not exactly blessed with acting chops if he was in a mask the whole film.

I absolutely love the dude for the films of my youth but from clips I've seen Harrison Ford looks like he's doing another Crystal Skull fancy dress performance. It's his eyes, he's not got any intensity any more - can tell he's turned his back on acting. Just looks totally unconvincing and right out of place.

I'm 35 and never watched a Star Wars film from start to finish. Not really a sci-if movie follower but clips look good
Think I may have to start from beginning
Are the newer ones any good as I know from reviews people see the first 3 as well ahead of there time

sigh. you need to put your shoulder to the wheel sometimes W, you are somewhat exaggerating on some of these.

but just since its you;

far from star wars being a simple good / evil story of the kind gun ainm mistakes it for, the rebels are - when you think about it - a group of religious militants (guided by 'the force') and inspired by a mujahideen-style notion of religious warriors (jedi isn't even that far from jihadi as a word). these fanatics are intent on bringing down the empire which for all its imperfections, presides over law and order and a multi cultural universe (see the famous bar scene for an example of the diversity that flourishes under the empire). that empire seems technologically unassailable, and yer even as it works on the space station that symbolises this, it is fraying internally, in thrall to one of those religious cultists that has crossed to its side (darth) and seemly unable to stop militants armed with primitive tech but buckets of faith.

in short, star wars anticipates the struggles of our own day; the empire is secular modernity, the rebels are isil. moreover its moral subtlety has many of us rooting for the latter. despite all this, some whoppers still manage think its a simple film for kids and other sci fi is more serious because everybody frowns a lot.

there. :coffee:

superb :yas:

Bear in mind that the second three are actually the first three

So is it best to watch those free first?

No. Best to watch in the order they were made imo.
Although watching in the chronological order might work well because you'd see it getting better (VI jedi excepted).
I just fear that watching I phantom menace first might make you give up.

Aye, thats what I was meaning T. Watch the first 3 which are now the second three first and watch the second three which is now the first three, second. Seems clear as fukk now that I read that back :giggle:

Best order (episode no, not production order) is 4, 5, 2, 3, 6, and not bother with 1.
Phantom Menace gets a beasting but some incredible moments. I can guarantee you were vigorously polishing your lightsaber the first time you seen Darth Maul in the first trailer.

Things that have pissed me off #578: my bird hadn't seen Star Wars. So I downloaded episode IV, and we watched it the other night. IT'S BEEN FUCKIN CGI-ED. There's fucking new bits and everything, including a frankly risible scene with Jabba, and stupid superfluous added beasts and skies.

WHY WOULD ANYONE DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT, LET ALONE THE ORIGINAL CREATOR? It shouldn't have been allowed. It's ISIL-style vandalism of a cultural artefact.

And on more than one occasion! There was the 1997 special edition re-releases, then the 2004 DVD versions, and most recently the 2011 Blu Ray versions, all suffered from Lucas-tinkering. (Blu Ray versions had some totally unnecessary modifications such as CGI-ewok eyes and Darth shouting "Nooooooo!" at the climax to ROTJ). Be prepared for more to come, there's bound to be future 3D or ultra 4K HD releases with further meddling! The original theatrical versions were, I believe, once available on laser disc so presumably they can be downloaded from somewhere in a fairly decent format. :glassraise:

There is absolutely no excuse for this sacrilege. None whatsoever. The smalltime voctory vibe of the campfire scene at the end of ROTJ alone is reason enough.

I have the original versions, Lucas refused to restore & rerelease them.

But, some brilliant bam sneakily put them on a DVD release as an extra disc. They're not enhanced which means they've not be ruined.

I'll see if I can find the release on the net and post a link.

Also, laser disc quality is uber shan compared to DVD. They just weren't designed for the tellys we have now a days. It's like the telly equivalent of a dot matrix printer.

My thoughts exactly.
:hmmm

I can only surmise that you wanted to 'move the relationship on a bit' and as your standard seduction techniques had obviously failed then the 'bore the pants off her' option was being pursued.

Put her pic up so we can judge whether such drastic actions justified.

Star Wars cast just before filming...

really? It's vision is one of an overextended legalistic bureaucracy threatened - even at the apparent height of its technological dominance - by a coalition of religious fanatics.

It seems to me that this was a lot more prescient than the preoccupations of more 'serious' sci fi. Meanwhile, the fact that many members of the audience sympathise with the zealots suggests a morally sophisticated storytelling that again exceeds more 'serious' works where being glum is oddly confused for being smart.

All this and it can still appeal to 6 year old. Perhaps you should rewatch from an adult point of view and consider what this actually incredibly seditious piece is saying. :coffee:

Anybody heard what certificate they're aiming for?
Disney have marketed the franchise towards younger kids with the release of the Stars wars rebels series,I'm gonna have a gutted 5yr old if it's a 12

Saw ROTJ on DVD recently and saw young Anakin aka Hayden had been superimposed as the Jedi spirit next to Obi Wan and Yoda at the end. Unnecessary, very unnecessary.

I've never seen a Star Wars movie and I dont think I am missing out.....

Aren't the adverts getting better these days :jedi:

You won't mate 12a just means anyone under 12,won't be admitted without an adult.

Personally think that rating has been the death of cinema. So many films that could be amazing 15's watered down so primary school kids can see them.
