I see he has retired at the age of 39. Massive "tributes" in the EEN to him today being acclaimed as a Hearts "legend".
Without any hint of bias on my part I genuinely cannot see what was so good about this guy as a player ? There have been several Hearts players over the years I could accept as being legends in that club's history but not Skacel, who was from my memory an overblown wind-up merchant with a decent left foot who scored a few goals for them and that was about it. Ah..but wait a minute, didn't he score two goals against Hibs in a tainted cup final about 7 years ago ? That must be what it is. It says everything about that club that such a knob-end is acclaimed as one of their best players of the last 30 years. Players like Robertson, Cruickshank, Ford etc I can understand...but this guy ?

He was excellent on his day, he played well against us, and he got under our skin enough that no shortage of folk decided the refugee song was acceptable.

It's fair enough tbh.

Id rather his name wasn't our board. How he never got his teeth to play with, when he came back with D Utd is a mystery.

He was the poster boy of the Guntz doping years. He ‘got’ the Guntz in the same way many great non Hibby Hibs players have ‘got’ Hibs e.g. Ivan, Sauzee, Bartley. He was a thorn in our side but to be honest we stuck a great many thorns in ourselves during that time so he wasn’t really all that crucial.

The fact he is considered a legend just shows how shite the Guntz really have been the last 20 years despite all their cheating.
