Saturday Night At The Movies

@EH17 Jimmy dae you ever watch a comedy? Every fuckin night it’s some violence
Most comedy 'funny bits' are in the trailers shown.

I didn't mind a couple of Sasha Baron Cohen's films. Enjoyed the Naked Gun films.

I prefer films that have decent stories. That's why I watch a lot of the 'kitchen sink' dramas.

I was really disappointed with the Liam Neeson Naked Gun. The trailer was fantastic but had all of the best jokes.

I look forward to his review of Bridgerton
Ah but Bridgerton holds no interest for me though.

I did however watch Upstairs Downstairs back in the day. But there was a wee bit violence in it during the WW1 episodes.

Brideshead Revisited was also a watch back then.

Comedy series are fine to watch.

Comedy films are usually pretty crap.

Just look at the mess they made of the film version of the book The Choirboys.

But as this thread is for films then I won't be commenting much in comedy's because as I said most of them are just not funny.

Recently watched The Life and Death of Peter Sellers on the BBC iPlayer. It wouldn't make my top ten list of films, I was drawn to it, as I am to biographies—be they in film or book form that explore a person's life.

It is certainly a worth watching, particularly if, like me, you had little to no prior knowledge about his personality outside of his on-screen persona. I appreciate it's poor form to speak ill of the dead, but assuming the film provides a reasonably accurate portrayal of the man, the conclusion is that he was, by all accounts, an utterly vile and unpleasant individual. The film paints a picture of a man whose genius was intertwined with profound psychological issues, resulting in general human awfulness.

Along with a relationship with his mother which seemed very unhealthy, almost Jambo family like, if you catch my drift.

Watched last night. Pretty predictable but watchable.
One of the real characters who is portrayed in the film Beckett.

His son wrote an article in the grauniad and basically told what really happened with his dad.

And it was nowt like said film version.

Watched Mike and Nick and Nick and Alice last night.
Quite entertaining with some amusing moments.

Vince Vaughan taking two parts.... himself and himself.

Not seen the film, but read the book. It's a door stop but absolutely fascinating. Sellers was a genius, but a pretty vile human being.

Watched The Green Mile the other night, missed the end last time I watched it.

Watched “Dirty business” on the channel 4 i player thingy. Based on the true story about 2 blokes down south who set about tackling the water companies and environmental agencies over raw sewage being pumped into rivers and streams in Englandshire.

The whole water treatment business is basically corrupt to the core and not interested in the slightest about poisoning waterways and the threat to public health (and actual deaths attributed to the issue). A very uncomfortable watch but well worth it. The public really are treated like shit as big businesses chase the dollar. Watch it and prepare to get angry

Watched it a wee ( :lookaround: ) while ago.
Corruption is rife isn't it.

Most of the water companies appear to be in French hands - how can any government allow such sell offs? No wonder these companies don't give a fukc, they don't live there!

Watched Scream 7 tonight. Fuck me, what a clunker. As a horror head I can handle some bad writing, bad acting etc... but this one is beyond the pale. Up (down?) there with the worst Freddy and Jason sequels.

This be on the watchlist today at some point.....

Watched a couple of horror flicks this week:

Abigail (on Netflix) - Kidnap/Heist movie takes a from Dusk Till Dawn twist. Pretty good, probably enjoyed it more than Sinners.

Final Destination: Bloodlines (Sky) - Latest in the franchise. Totally daft but mildly entertaining. Worth watching for one scene alone. MRI scanner in a hospital gets cranked up to max power and a guy with loads of piercings gets dragged through it bell end first :lollol

I enjoyed both of those when I saw them.

The missus and I have ended up rewatching all the Scream films after sticking on the original as a palette cleanser after enduring the terrible 7th one recently.

Our house ranking: 1 (genre classic), 2, 4, 6 (entertaining), 5 (decent), 3 (pretty pish), 7 (absolute shambles)

Watching Papillon, class film.
Takes me back to hospital in Embra, reading the book - in French - kept me sane and taught me slang French I would never have encountered elsewhere in Embra 😀 Well done Henri Charrière I think it was.

But enough already of anal drug smuggling tricks and other dodginess. I want to unremember those bits.
