A real shock to hear this...what a hugely talented, funny and charismatic man he was
Suffered from depression for years and now dead at 63

Never found him in the least bit funny, but sad nonetheless.
 
Enjoyed his films tbh. Twins was my first visit to the cinema without my mum if I mind right, went wie ma pal Graham!

First memory of RW is his playing the genie in Aladdin. I watched many of his films growing up. He brought a little bit of magic to most childhoods. rest in peace

Good Morning Vietnam is one of the all time great comedic performances in cinema, as with his role in Aladdin the performance was mostly ad libbed too.

Absolutely brilliant talent.

I found him really difficult to watch as a stand up, made me tired and slightly ill at ease. But as an actor I can place myself according to some of his roles. Loved Mork and Mindy as a kid, was on sat morning i think and i'd sit and wait for it to come on after the kids tv. Good morning vietnam, the performance and soundtrack take me back to 3rd year at school, still love both. I later spoke to my uncle who served in vietnam and met the guy it was based on, very interesting tales to tell. Aladdin. I travelled on a bus from Seattle to San Fran on Dec 30th 1992, got stuck in a blizzard in Yreka (sp?). aware we'd be there for hogmany about 15 if us from the bus went to the pictures and watched and listened as we passed bottles of rum and whisky to one another. Maybe just drunk but was mesmerised by Williams. And all this before we even get near Dead Poets etc.

I thought Dead Poets Society was a load of shite but no reflection on his contribution. He did some good stuff The Fisher King was enjoyable. Sorry that he felt that he wanted to kill himself.

He did an HBO special years ago and his take on golf was one of the funniest things I have seen.

You really are a prick sometimes. How should folk get their priorities right? Somebody who has an illness and has fought it a long time takes their own life. That is horrible and sad. Depression is not selective and being rich, part of the elite or a Hollywood movie star doe not make you immune to it. I have seen this wreck people's lives and suffer from it myself. I have never contemplated taking my own life (watching my wife die made me realise how wrong that would be) but others may feel that they have nothing to live for. How fucking horrible must that feel, or do you feel anything?
I normally don't give a fuck about your posts, they are normally just a whinge about how everything at Hibs are shite. Or the latest chat was about people who sing republican songs are not all pricks, I agree. The post you just made makes you look like a prick though.

I couldn't give a fuck. I don't scare easily. There are people on here who have lost loved ones to depression and suicide. If some insensitive prick doesn't care who he upsets with his posts why should he be so sensitive? Hypocrite.

It can also happen to ordinary folk, like my younger brother

Some will know that this is a subject that's still pretty raw for me. That's the reason I didn't get involved above. I just want to say cheers to the good guys for the support and that once again, The Bounce gets it absolutely spot on. Saved me a few fcuking expletives.

As for Robin, rest in peace, sir. The gift of laughter is a precious one and you gave us a lot of that and a whole lot more.

I'm a fan in a not seen all he's done but liked most of what I did. Thought his thing about Scots inventing golf was brilliant.

He had a kid the same age as a pal of mines they played for the same soccer team. When I was in San Francisco I took the wee bugger along to games and training for 3 weeks in the hope of meeting him and having that 'casual chat' on the touch line. Alas he never showed. Bugger!

Very sad news. Depression is a terrible thing. People don't decide to commit suicide; after a while the disease makes the choice for them.
 
Glad Cantona got bounced! counting crows, Mrs potters lullaby says a lot for it....understanding mental health. ..been there
