Just fir @EH17 Jimmy 😀 I knows 'ow to cheer 'im up

Of course, Europe has changed in the meantime and many if the big countries have swung right... but still mainly on the EU train - for now. Until the next swing to centre and/or centre left from hard right as has happened here in NL.

Would/will this cost labour the next election?

I doubt it. In June ...

Britain rejoining the European Union Support: 55% Opposition: 34% Net support: +21 The latest level of support for rejoining the European Union ... Support for rejoining is particularly concentrated among current Labour voters, with 84% stating that Britain should apply to join the EU.

I think it will cost Labour in what is known as the red wall to be honest.

Nowt like showing folk their vote counts for fuck all.

Still maybe heading back to a right wing populist run entity may be a good thing.

If we did have another vote I'd still vote leave but if rejoin won then so be it.

And hopefully Labour put it in their manifesto and no be sneaky about it. 😠

I do think there's a halfway house here. Why not enter into a Norway style deal? It would confer benefits without the full membership argument.
I would hazard a guess that the EU would have the UK jump through hoops because they would need to punish us.

Still what's no to like when the German and French economies are not doing all that well.

Be good to rejoin and bail them out.

I'm not sure they would want to punish us. Might be more of the prodigal son.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 Ach Archie it's no us they want it's the fact that we ploughed loads of cash in as a net contributor.

Money that can be used to strengthen our infrastructure rather than building something for another country.

Just in time to help bolster the German economy before the Germans lurch completely to the right and populist.

Should never have left.
Lots of folk believed the lies peddled.
That's the downside of a democracy.
Yep voting is too good for some of us. 🙄

Makes you wonder why Germany and France have tanking economies though if the EU is so good.

Its a funny old world innit

You voted for what you believed Jimmy.

Quite right to do so.

Just unlucky.

You weren't interested in the greatest good for the greatest number?
The greatest good didn't pay my bills and put food on the table mate.

The greater good never really bothered their arses when a lot of us were struggling.

Actually between the 3 of us (UK, Germany and France) economies are predicted to grow for the foreseeable. The UK is predicted to overtake Germany but it's all pretty stable growth albeit the Asian economies are doing a Usain Bolt!

So why rejoin the EU then Jack if we are doing ok?

And yep the Asian economies are on steroids but it helps when they can exploit the workforce and not let them unionise.

It also helps that they artificially depress the value of their currency and control a lot of the world's rare earths.

Like the neo liberal outlook on life then?

Control.

Are people better off in the uk after Brexit?

No, most economic studies and data show that people in the UK are, on average, worse off financially and economically than they would have been if the UK had remained in the European Union.
📉 Economic Impact
• Smaller Economy: GDP is estimated to be 6% to 8% lower than a no-Brexit counterfactual.
• Lower Living Standards: Families are on average thousands of pounds worse off per year in lost output and growth.
• Stalled Investment: Business investment and productivity growth have lagged behind other advanced economies.
• Trade Barriers: Non-tariff borders and paperwork have reduced goods trade with the EU.

Despite you being 'better off' there is a possibility that better offness is offset by the thousands of pounds worse off bullet point that hit everyone.

But, but, but, we're doing better than the european big 3 so we might've been even worser off if we hudnae left

I always got the impression that half the "red wall" didnt have a clue what they were voting for. Some guy on a council estste in Bolton was brain washed by Farage and Johnstone into thinking that all his lifes problems were caused by the Polish plumber living next door.

According to govt figures we are ,yes
Just imagine how much better off we all could have been not losing the 'thousands of pounds' if we'd still been in though.

We've lost billions in exports, exporters have either given up due to the extra paperwork or are paying through the nose to deal with it. We're all affected.

And then there's the 10s of thousands travelling to and from the EU spending hours in queues at Dover and European airports.

Sunny uplands indeed!

It has also made retirement in places like Spain, Greece and Portugal a buerocratic nightmare and very expensive

It’s been a disaster for the majority of folk. Got to wonder how many jump ship the minute we are allowed to settle anywhere in the E.U. again.
