Like groups of fitba fans of several teams down south a group of Hibs supporters will be displaying a 'Refugees Welcome' banner at the home game against Alloa next Saturday 12th September. Monies raised over and above the banner cost, which I guess will be minimal, will be given to charities aiding refugees.

For donations, please use the PayPal a/c leithlinks@live.co.uk and clearly state 'Banner' or the like.

If you fancy helping with displaying it. PM me and I will happily pass it on.

I don't do Twitter or Facebook but I'm told that within 24 hrs of being muted over £850 has been raised. A quickly look at the internet and it looks that these Hibs fans are the first to do this in Scotland.

Someone suggested the same on Kickback....an 11 page thread later and a thumbs down. That's good enough for me. I'm in.

Admire the sentiments driving you all. I'm just apprehensive of introducing politics or any of the worlds problems at my escape from all of my daily problems, when I go to ER. Football should never be mixed with the afore said, in my opinion.
 
We're witnessing a humanitarian disaster, I'd like to think the Hibs support want to show, in a very small way, that we're thinking of those poor folk and their dreadful situation.
 
And there are plenty platforms, charities and organisations we can join or donate too( as I have done myself) without bringing it to my 2 hours a week,when I escape everything that's going on and watch my football team.

I expect that it it may be unfurled at half time. Go for a pie. With queues such as they are at ER you would definately miss the banner but possibly the restart of the second half too though.

I get where you are coming from, and i kinda agree. but, Erin Go Bragh, flown by our club in the begining was very political. this is a flag, you dont have to even see, the one that'll be paraded. its not like a forced minuet silence.

Only Bouncers of a certain age will get that Sir. Which reminds me that someone posted up a photo on Pussbook of Lynda Carter in her Wonder Woman costume earlier today. Now she was even more incredible than The Hulk

Everton: The club’s official charity, Everton in the Community (EitC), delivers a range of activity to support refugees and is working with local action groups, Asylum Link and Refugee Action, to offer assistance to these families and the wider community in which they are based.

West Bromwich Albion :“The current refugee crisis is a matter of grave concern which will be given full consideration by the club at the earliest opportunity. In the meantime we are obviously willing to support any initiatives to help raise the profile of the issue.”

Arsenal:''Arsenal have been working to help Syrian refugee children for some years after linking up with Save the Children as their global charity partner in 2011. They are currently developing a programme to improve the lives of displaced children living in refugee camps in Iraq and, on Tuesday, they sent a 100-box consignment of Arsenal kit over to them.''

Celtic: “Having seen the effects of this humanitarian crisis unfold in recent days, we felt as a club we should help in any way we can.
Celtic was established as a football club to help people in need and this ethos remains a fundamental part of our club almost 130 years after our formation.None of us can understand the true horrors of this situation but as a club we wanted to show our support for those affected."

Anyone interested, there's a Calaid collection for clothing at Porty Town Hall this Saturday, they're desperate for mens clothing ( small/medium) and shoes as well as any old tents/blankets etc.

I'd be inclined to follow Everton and let the Hibernian Community Foundation take the lead on the club's behalf. Would that not be more appropriate than just a club statement?

Not kids or womans?
Seen a few pictures on t'internet and there are a hell of a lot more young men than women and kids. I take it they are getting vetted before they enter the UK?

I haven't seen many women in any of the reports from Calais ??

Think the ratio is 10:1 men v women. This is nothing to do with these people entering the UK, just providing them with basics to survive in the environment they find themselves in. Toiletries are also welcome.
