We don't seem to have attracted many Gent fans to the forum. Maybe they view us as insignificant, maybe there just aren't many of them. Maybe they're just no that bothered about football.

I read somewhere that the attendance last week was 11,534. I can't lie, it surprised me for a pretty vital game.

So, after the weekend off, we're back in action on Thursday in what is probably the biggest game since eh last seasons qualifying round. Like last season we've worked ourselves into a position of touching distance of group stage European Football. If we were to achieve that, well that would be just massive.

So there is the tricky little matter of the actual game to navigate, and you wonder if there is more from Gent. Did they rest their key players, did the underestimate us, did they have an off day. Will they like playing at an Easter Road full to the gunnels with Hibs fans. I don't know what to expect really, but I do know, I'd rather be in this position than not, and I'd like to be in it every year.

Savour the game, and the experience.

So, a team. This is tricky because I think although we're coming into form, some of our key creators are still coming back from injury. Bit of a risk to play them? Or keep them to go for it with half an hour to go. Tough calls.

I expect the team we will see will be something like this:

O' Hora Kerr Obita

Passlack Chaiwa Mulligan Mayor
[McGrath]
Elding

Lowe

Come on Hibs

The subs will be fluid depending on how the game goes, but I expect big appearances from Boyle, Suto, Campbell & Wright. If the circumstances dictate maybe Nicky Cadden.

That's my view, I'm more interested in hearing yours.

Someone missing alongside Elding.
That's what I expect too. And I'm not sure who the last man will be.

Campbell for a rugged approach. Subs to bring the glory later would maybe be my decision.

McGrath maybe not fully ready yet, but most natural option left of that 2.

Wrights a super sub. Would keep it that way.

Boyle is the one who's most likely to have that extra bit about him on the night. Last season and this so far he's no been at his best, but he comes up when it matters. Euro qualy on the line, he might go that bit further.
 
A difficult choice for SDG, does he stick with Passlack who for me has imo been off his game or does he go with Megwa ? I don’t think Josh Campbell has played his way out of David’s plans either, does he stick with him. It’ll be really interesting to see who he goes with.

Keeper, easy.
Back 3, easy.
Passlack, difficult. I think we're guilty of using him far too much when he's on the park. Spread it out, Mayor looks capable.
Midfield pair, easy.
Attacking mid, with Lowe out, Campbell is the cheap outball. He will challenge for that ball.
Up top, Campbell reduces the need for a Lowe, Elding and Boyle are a lot more versatile and can move around where I'd want Lowe on the penalty spot.
Campbell crashes the box. They'd cause problems.

Subs, Wright, Lowe, McGrath, Cadden
That's an attacking team with quite scary back up.

But, it's no me picking the team 😁
 
Need to try and get ahead with the starting eleven, and see if over the line with the subs. In that spirit, I’d go:
Sallinger
Passlack O’Hora Kerr Obita
Mulligan Chaiwa Mayor
Elding Lowe Boyle
 
No idea about the line-up but my guess would be pretty much the same team as last week.
I'd start Boyle without a doubt. We just have young laddies up front and badly need his experience there.
Boyle is such a talismanic player for the club and more importantly can get goals.

Re the game; I expect Gent to be significantly better than they were last week, and to dominate possession for big parts of the game.
They are an established and experienced European club having qualified for the last four group stages.
Having a full house and being at home should benefit Hibs, however IMO this will be a more difficult game for Hibs than the first leg was.
We are in reality a counter attacking team who absorb pressure then try to catch teams on the break.
Our style of play is better suited to away games.
Maybe we need to try something different on Thursday ?

Above all, we need to avoid losing an early goal and, to be honest, for Hibs to have a chance of winning we need to score first.
My concern for Thursday night is the same as it's been since the start of the season...where are the goals going to come from ?
We need players like Elding, Lowe, Boyle, Passlack etc to play above themselves and deliver.
Big performances from everyone will be required if we are going to have a chance of winning.

If we get the first goal, preferably as late on in the game as possible, I think we can do it.

The pressure has been cranked up now that the gunts have qualified...The 4 million quid prize money also drops into the clubs bank accounts a week before the transfer window closes. This game is massive for Hibs and David Gray personally

Exactly and there’s folk on here congratulating the Gunts on qualifying.
You just know what’s coming. We’ll get suckered tonight and have to listen to that shower gloating all season.
 
Last season we had better results away from home than we did at ER...We had full houses for Mittyaland, Partizan and Legia and lost all 3 games while more than holding our own in Europe.. is it a mental thing when the pressure is on at home?

As a team we are better suited to playing away from home when the onus is on the home team to break us down.
Allowing them the maximum possession whilst we wait to break up the play and try to hit on the counter attack.
It's harder for Hibs at Easter Road where the crowd expect the team to have most of the ball and to attack and create chances and score goals.
We are just not adept at doing that.

Tonight's game will therefore be tough for Hibs, but I think we will give it everything we have got with a big crowd roaring us on.
I do think we are going to have to be patient.
I also repeat that the first goal will be crucial assuming there is a first goal.
We are going to have to make the most of what possession we have, create chances, and above all for once be clinical in the penalty box.

As I mentioned I am concerned about where the goals are going to come from and the youthfulness and inexperience of our forwards.
But let's just give it everything we have in an all or nothing shoot-out.
It would be some achievement for Hibs to qualify for the Conference League group stages given we finished fifth in a poor league last season.

The focus is on staying big defensively. I think they're still better than we saw from them over there.

Still a hard night. But one we can overcome!

Tonight we see what a David Gray Hibs team is all about.

Had 5 windows and properly backed. Pretty much a full squad to pick from. A 'sold out' (!) Easter Road.

Worst case scenario the 'sold out' (!) crowd should leave ER feeling positively that a Hibs team turned up giving 100%. That played football creating opportunities.

Gutted. An unmissable meeting about a possible job this morning (which turned out not to be so unmissable) meant I can't get up the road in time for K.O.

Just do it Hibs. I don't care how ugly the win is as long as we cut out the silly mistakes and slack passing that will gift them crucial possession.
 
Tonight's the night we can go from a team that plays dull negative streetsmart fitba and gets results, to one that plays with verve, attacking style and gets results.
